If they did a .1 fix they probably pulled the previous driver from their download page.  I would try the Wayback Machine Web Archive

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: [free one year license] RegOrganizer 7.52
« Last post by MilesAhead on November 01, 2016, 09:12 AM »
Looks like the RegOrganizer offer expired, and their site appears to be a bit broken. I tried getting the EaseUS Data Recovery and the account creation went fine...but the license and DL is 404ing.

You need to copy paste into the browser.  Just clicking the link will miss the part at the end with the filename:
http://www.chemtable...eg-organizer-setup-r[hw].exe

Where it says Expired they did not give you the link to the zip download with the Readme file.  According to that the license is valid for install before Nov. 6.  I believe they are all the same key for Windows Deal. No update and no support.

Check your messages.  :)

RegOrganizer 7.52 100% discount.  One year license no support or updates:
http://www.windowsde...iscount-coupon-code/

Apparently you have until Nov. 6 to install and register the product.

For an idea what is included I recommend reading the page at Softpedia including the 2 user reviews:

http://www.softpedia.../Reg-Organizer.shtml

7.52 is indeed the latest version.

One of the included tools is an install monitor that allows you to record the changes made by the installer and undo them for a complete uninstall.  Generally I have found those to work OK if there is not much time between the install and uninstall.  However I advise caution before doing things like installing, using a software program for 2 years, then uninstalling via the tool.  Because changes made by installing other programs can get undone as an unintended consequence.  But as an undo tool it may be preferred by some over rolling back the system types of utilities.

I haven't tried it.  Just downloaded it in case I decide to give it a shot.  :)

I believ %Clipboard% is already Text type %ClipboardAll% would be other formats

True.  Also you can test %ClipBoard% for blank.  I think there is an unwritten rule stuff cannot work the first time.  Once you get things fixed they often look pretty close to what you started with.  :)

This I guess is not a request but a noob question  :-[

Running AHK, compiled a exe, what is missing from

#Persistent
OnClipboardChange:
FileAppend, %clipboard%, ‪C:\Users\RG\Desktop\clip1.txt
return

to keep all copied text in the text file?

I don't know if it makes any difference but the thing I notice where your script differs from the example is the example has a Return directly after the #Persistent directive.  Also I would probably use the A_EventInfo to find out if the clipboard data is of type text.

oh, there is so much to consider! Actually, my favourite philosopher in Denmark, Peter Zinkernagel, authored my favourite quote:
"It's much harder to think, than people imagine"

Here is the latest one I came up with:

"Warning:  some species are smarter than they at first appear."

You got to watch out for those who hide the light under a bushel.   :)

Actually the world has turned ~3,650 times since Curt joined. :D

For some reason all I could think about was the Soap Opera of the same name.  :)

Besides, you didn't take leap years into account.

This page may be a bit more helpful:
http://www.winhelpon...ontact-administator/

Also instead of poking around in Task Manager to get which script caused the error dialog you could use Home Folder 2 from my page here:
http://milesaheadsoftware.org

Run HomeFolder2.exe and it will show an icon in the task tray.  Click on the error dialog to make sure it is the active window.  Press Shift and Number Pad Subtract keys.  Explorer should open to the folder containing the program that generated the error.

My guess is if you uninstalled some stuff the Registry probably lost some info or got corrupted.  If you have a Restore Point running that might fix it.

You would have to prove intent to panic. There would have to be mass hysteria.

Scaring one woman to death isn't a case.

This kind of thing falls squarely on the 'Good Samaritan Act'.  You cannot be charged with giving too much aid... only not enough.

Dayna.

This reminds me of the Orson Welles War of the Worlds radio broadcast.  Likely hyped "panic" as a publicity stunt.  I mean are thousands really going to panic if you tell them Martians are invading?  There would likely be more panic nowadays if there were a news bulletin that the NFL had filed for Chapter 11.  :)

Interesting.  I should have known it was a switcheroo.  The Superman comic book used to drive me nuts with the "Superman dies" bit.  It got to the point they would put "Not a robot.  Not a dream.  Not a parallel universe."  Plus five other disclaimers.  Then they would unload a new gimmick like a possible future that never happened or some crap, to get out of it.   ;D

Did Perry Mason ever lose a case?

I remember him losing one case in the original 50s/60s series.  Probably just as a shocker to boost ratings.  On the retro TV channels I used to get a kick out of the Perry Mason shows when they started with the pilot and played them in order.  At first Burr and his P.I. "Paul" were lean and hungry.  As the show became successful they both obviously indulged in La Dolce Vita.  Burr must have been 200 LBS heavier in the last show than in the first episode.

The Weather Bunny parody brought back memories of simpler time.  Though all 3 of my news/weather channels had zero women... men only.

I liked the ones where the woman had to write on the glass backwards.  They were standing behind a glass weather map with a white crayon.  For the viewers to read what they wrote they had to write it on the glass backwards.  Not only that but often they wore outfits similar to a magician's assistant.

I wonder if TWC has a disclaimer hidden in there someplace that weather forecasts are "for entertainment purposes only?"  :)

As for anything government related they usually just cite Sovereign Immunity and refuse to discuss the matter.  Then again I am not an attorney and all the stuff I have heard is just that.  Hearsay.  :)

Anyone know what Perry Mason has to say about it?

I know there are download AddOns for Firefox to preserve the file modification time stamp when downloading a file to Windows.  Anyone know of a similar extension for browsers based on chrome?

I've been searching for over 1/2 hour and haven't gotten a hit yet.

In my opinion, you're calling malice when there are many other explanations (incompetence, missed testing, programmer shortcuts, etc).  But that would require that you take a more forgiving interpretation.

And why do we want to be forgiving of Microsoft?  You don't see how this whole update thing was a wedge to force feed the user whatever they want in the name of "security" updates?  Just look how they ram Win 10 home while spying the whole time.  If I released a product that surfed the web while creating "index.dat" files, as they did in the old IE, tracking every place my program's users surfed, I would likely be in jail.  But they are big business so they are not incarcerated.  They are mega rich.

I think I will end this here.  You are entitled to your perspective.  But so am I to mine.  :)
It is just getting old.  Besides I can no why keep my promise not to nag on MS if I keep responding.  :)

The moratorium is now in effect.  I should set a timer counting down for 6 months but it would likely not work that well on a Laptop.

That's incorrect.  Type cd "\program files\" at the prompt in the regular cmd.exe, and it works.  Or just type cd \progra~1 and it works, which is what I stated above.

If it could handle the spaces you would not need the quotes.  As I said, the space should be either a valid path character or a separator character, but not both.  Why don't we just require double quoting any file path that contains an 'e' ??  It's just as valid to do that as to quote around the spaces.

Hi holt,

I will suggest you install winpatrol It is one of my MUST_HAVE.

It will give you list of "startup Programs" and you can easily disable which you do not want, like "Glarysoft updater" here.

Regards,

Anand

+1 for WinPatrol.

I got "grandfathered in" with a license at discount to boot.  :)  I bought at the right time it seems.  But even the free version does quite a number of cool things.

You haven't given any argument otherwise, other than that you were inconvenienced by it.  While I've given many counter examples.

There used to be a trend in blaming Microsoft for everything bad, and that it was intentional, rather than unforeseen.  That's what this feels like.

In all honesty, I wish they would move ahead, and not take older Windows 3.1 16-bit applications into account when developing the file system.  Not worry about legacy compatibility.  Anything that can't handle spaces in the name in this day and age is either (a) old, or (b) not developed correctly.

Windows wouldn't be so much of a mish mash if they quit taking into account old legacy applications.  But they don't.

But we do agree on something.  If you can't look at the arguments and links I provided above, and see how it explains away the fact that they were using spaces to booby trap the file system, then nothing I say will convince you otherwise.

The "old" software that cannot handle the spaces in filenames is Windows cmd.exe.  If they want to make the space a legitimate filename character, then it should not be a path separator character.  They did it both ways because they do not want to update their code.  Just like the 260 character path limit in explorer.exe that is not limited in the API file calls.  They don't want to open a can of spaghetti.  I bet all that code was written by some guy who got fired or hit by a car or something.  Nobody wants to fix it.  Just let it zombie-fy until nobody uses Windows anymore.  That's the way to run a "modern" OS.  :)

Edit: supposedly there is a Registry hack in Windows 10 that allows Explorer.exe to handle paths longer than 260 characters.  I would be curious how much of a performance hit is involved.

Afa doing things deliberately goes, the fact that various Windows programming books were published under variations on the title "Undocumented Windows" is proof in itself.  The programmers on the buddy list got a cheat sheet of undocumented calls.  The other programmers got to trial and error it.

I assume youve ruled out any antivirus or other protection security apps? Those would be natural first suspects.

I only manually scan with AV or anti-malware type programs.  It may be related to the fact that this system has never played well with System Restore, Windows Update etc..

Other installers have no problems.  Only Windows Installer.  A new Tweaking.com Windows filxer was released today.  I ran the Windows Installer fix component.  I'll worry about it the next time I update Calibre.  If I remember to uninstall first then things will likely go faster.

One of these days I need to get a thinner lighter machine.  This beastie should really be left on a desktop.  :)

I was only talking about way back when they changed the name of the folder where programs were installed to "Program Files" including the space between.

That was because of upgraded capabilities in the OS, IIRC.  Before that, there wasn't any equivalent.  And that was introduced in Windows 95?

https://blogs.msdn.m...00/?p=8153/#10279251

If they were not deliberately throwing in a monkey wrench all they had to do to avoid the path error I noted was to name the folder ProgramFiles without the space.  Since they went out of their way to include the space one has to assume creating the launch errors was intentional.  It broke some of their own software so it is impossible for me to believe these errors did not show up during testing.

How did it break anything other than 16-bit applications?  The capabilities of Windows 95 allowed for spaces.  Before that, there were no central locations.  Also, applications that would have been running on 16-bit windows would see PROGRA~1 no matter what as directories had a limit of 8 characters (ah the 8.3 days).  The space makes literally no extra difference for those applications.  There were errors, sure because of the change.  But the change that you're referring to has literally no difference to any legacy program that would be affected by it.

I don't get the point of the argument.  MS is known for breaking code and forcing other software to conform to its non-compliant conventions historically.  The space in the path is just one example.

I see no point in carrying on.  If you think the space was not deliberately used as a booby trap then nothing I say will convince you otherwise.

I ran Tweaking.com's Windows Installer fix.  Got the same thing.  Hung creating shortcuts.  I killed it and uninstalled Calibre.  This made me "back off" the aborted install first.  After completing the uninstall,  installing Calibre worked, including creating shortcuts.  If this work-around will work every time I don't know.  Calibre updates so often I may just do one update a month.  :)

Personally, I hate shortcuts on my desktop, so I never create those to begin with

I don't think it is the inability of the installer to create shortcuts that stops the process.  I think some other problem hangs it at that point.  I have seen this error message in searches all the way back to XP and it is not solved by creating or not creating shortcuts.  That is just the message that is left hanging.

Other times I run a Calibre update and it sails right through to completion.  That is what makes it mysterious.
