Found Deals and Discounts / Get Camtasia Studio v3 for free
« Last post by Veign on November 21, 2007, 11:37 AM »
I know its a slightly older version but Techsmith is making this version available for free and since their products are so well developed an older version may work well for some.

Camtasia is the complete professional solution for recording, editing and sharing high-quality screen videos. It's easy-to-use, affordable, and is the quickest and most effective way for you to communicate.

Read up on getting the license and a link to the download:

Just thought members here could benefit from this offer.

That cool it was removed from Digg.  Didn't know they policed the submission for content violation like that - at least on this level.

I go with names around development.  My dogs name was 'beta' and my next dog will be called v1.0 (one for short).  So maybe something slightly geeky - get her started young as the world needs more geeks.

Living Room / Re: Laptop or Desktop — which are you?

Laptops all the way.  Nothing beats having the portability.  From relocating within the house to taking on the road having a laptop has made me more productive since I can be in front of my computer for longer periods.

(by the way I have a real mouse attached and you get used to the keyboard - after a few weeks you won't even notice the size difference with the keboard)

Seems like he like to steal other's hard work.

Another blog of his:

Original post:

(there is no source or credit given to the original author)

How can he possibly defend this.  Why bother even trying.

Zaine's made a comment  to the blog, and the guy replied.  My guess is the "source" was added after the fact, but then I want to believe the worst about somebody who would steal like this.

-nevermind-

I had written that he changed all the links but I see that Zaine links directly to the software's homepage.  Not sure why I thought it linked to an internal, category page.

I guess if you scroll down to the bottom of the article it includes a link to the source.

Don't know if it was originally there, none the less given the horrible cut and paste job it's nearly invisible.

It wasn't originally there.  He must be reading this forum.

Might be able to report it to Blogger by clicking Flag at the top of the page.  Other than that not much you can do.

It obvious that the only reason for the blog is for Google Ads and generating revenue.

disgusting...

Stealing Zaine's Great Software List as found here:

Apparently Deny doesn't have a brain of his own to come up with a list so he has to steal someone else' hard work.

Veign can probably tell you some forums visited by competent web designers looking for work.

Try:
http://www.designcontest.net/

Basically you run your design as a contest and designers submit custom designs in an attempt to win the contest and the funds you have declared as the prize.

If you already have a myspace presence, and like how it appears

I sure hope not.  MySpace pages are a web designer's nightmare...

From a person that does custom designed websites, my thoughts are you should hire a pro to do it.  You get what you pay for and there is so much more to a design beyond the html code and some colors.  A well designed website can make all the difference in the world when it comes to your image.

The problem I have with CMS systems like Joomla and Drupal, for a novice's, is you end up with a very CMS looking website which IMO doesn't look too good and not unique in any way.  So what you end up needing is a custom design to go over the CMS engine which could cost the same as a custom brochure type website.  What is Joomla or Drupal good for.  Website where content, pages and structure are in a constant flux - and I wouldn't think of a band website is (I see a band website having only a few places where content is changing and structure is relatively static).

To answer one of your questions about what real designers use.  Real, lets replace that with professional, designers use several tools to accomplish the task of the creation of a website.  My main tool is emEditor but use several other applications to complete a website.

I have 100's of alerts I monitor.  Mainly my stuff but also some competitor and client stuff too.

I kinda like Media Monkey for managing my MP3 collection:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/

Reason I like it is has the ability to fix filenames and tags.  Once thing I like with my MP3's is absolute consistency across all files.

What's funny is my blog post has taken the #1 spot in Google if you do a search for CDEarth.  Not sure if it will last long but at least it will save some people from being ripped off.

I would forget about charging -- it won't work.  Better to just get an audience at this point.

True and you could make more from Google Ads on the page showcasing the tutorials.

Go for the largest audiance possible.  You might even get some work out of it so make sure people know you could be hired to do graphics (if you're in the market)...

Are you looking to create a desktop application or a web application?

If a web application then with PHP and MySQL the process wouldn't be too difficult.

Here's a post of mine for tools to manage a MySQL database:
http://www.veign.com...agers-and-tools.html

the other advantage to PHP / MySQL is there is far less of a learning curve than creating a desktop application.  You will also find many developers within this forum that work heavily in PHP / MySQL - like myself and mouser.
