Living Room / Re: SSD Drives - something to consider before taking the plunge

Thanks.

But I still don't get it. He really expects the average person to go out and spend $1,000+ for a 600GB SSD? :huh:

I can remember a time when I was thinking about spending 1000$ for a 20 MB hard-drive :P

Yeah, but at that time I'm pretty sure they didn't have 70MB drives that were a bit slower for $100.

Over three times as much storage space at one-tenth the price.

Agreed. I think it was actually the *only* one available ;)

Reading is actually quite ok with current mobile browsers. The problem is writing / replying. While it's kind of better with the wap trick (thanks), you lose the formatting help and smilies as it seems. There's also no preview, just post.

@phitsc:
"I really think we should look into making the site more mobile friendly. I'm afraid I mean the forums in particular. I see myself use my mobile phone more and more at home instead of the PC. I guess a tablet will replace that once I get one."

You might think that, but is it a valid and general requirement for DC Forum users?

For example, some people might ask the Q "How many DC Forum users:
  • prefer to and do use the DC Forum as it is, on a PC screen, to read or post to the discussions that interest them?
  • prefer to and do use only mobiles to read and post to the discussions that interest them?
  • prefer to and do use a feed aggregator (e.g., Google Reader) to read all DC Forum posts, and only go into the DC Forum via PC to explore interesting threads or to post comments?"

There could be other, similar questions.
If we had some statistical data in answer to those questions, then we would have a clearer view of user requirements in this regard, and we could be in a position to establish with some degree of certainty whether changing things to be "more mobile friendly" would be a productive exercise and an effective use of scarce resources, for the short term and/or the longer term.

Yeah, I agree. I'm no trend setter though. If I'm doing it, chances are high a lot of people have already been doing it for months ;)

Just did it again.

You do realize that there is a limit to the number of times one can install FARR, don't you?
Better find a suitable job soon!

Didn't I see that mouser is working on a new project? FAJR, I think it is called.

Just did it again. Unfortunately, the fun did not last as long as I had hoped. Well, hoping for better luck this time...   it's looking very promising at least :)

good luck with the new installation :)

The installation was not the problem, the job was ;)  But thanks anyway :Thmbsup:

Don't know how you get those kindle edition prices. When I click those links I get shown considerably higher prices than the ones you list here, all of them higher than their respective paperback versions even. Do kindle book prices depend on the region you're ordering them from? (and I don't mean the 2$ for international delivery, if they still apply).

Interesting though that the one thing you guys would not want to give up is the web connection. It's weird how important the web has become in our lives, something that did not exist in the current form a mere 20 years ago.

With great excitement I read the announcement of the new portable Playstation Vita.

With great disappointment I read what it will cost in Europe compared to the US.

US:
http://blog.us.plays...ita-starting-at-249/

Europe:
http://blog.eu.plays...ion-vita-at-e3-2011/

249$ vs. 249€   (<= that currently equals to 363$).

That's more than 100$ difference!

... How about driving over a cliff because a pop-up add for applesauce blocked the windshield in a turn ... This really is getting ridiculous.

I guess this one can be dealt with by installing AddBlockPlus in your car ;)  (just make sure your car supports plugins!)

If in any doubt, I would advise to get rid of a possibly defective hard-drive rather sooner than later. Already suspicious noises are reason enough for me. I've learned it the hard way too :(

I read on Joystiq that the Store is already up enough (in USA) that you can buy stuff.

Well, it definitely wasn't available in Europe yesterday.
