Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Mini-Review of Fineprint (Virtual Printer)
« Last post by TucknDar on July 31, 2008, 05:27 AM »
Fineprint 6 is now available!

I also wish that the FP would have a feature that lets us delete segments of the pages (not just entire pages) before printing.
I'd support that!!

new version includes latest MiniCap (v1.12.01), with support for -promptsave command. I've only added this to the Bordershadow capture, but should be easily added to other aliases as well.

Border shadow capture with promptsave:
minicap.exe -captureregselect -bordershadow -promptsave -clipimagepath -exit
This command will now let you select what to capture, then add a nice shadow and open a save dialog. Once you've saved your screenshot, the full path to the file is copied to clipboard and minicap is exited. Now you can easily use your screenshot in a forum post :)

"Example" while making this post:
bordershadow.png
(Yes I realize that doesn't prove anything, but take my word for it, it took about 3 seconds including typing, to have that screenshot attached ;) )

The MiniCap alias now also comes with DCUpdater support! You don't need to miss even a minor upgrade ;)

Not that I use it myself, but there's a free (OSS) app called data crow which seems like quite a powerful collector (and more) application. I've installed it and it's pretty cool, but I've only just scratched the surface of what it can do. It's written in Java AFAIK, which I usually despise when used for desktop apps, but this one is actually fairly fast and the UI isn't too bad, IMO.

Anyway, this is from the data crow website:

edit: Btw, I'm currently working on a list of my software licenses in ListPro.

not that I need to try this file manager, but sounds strange that it should freeze if there's a folder larger than 2GB. that's not an uncommon size.

You should contact the developer

This adds a long requested feature, non-contiguous matching.
So searching for "ffox" will match "fire fox".

Hope you like it!
Absolutely! Very helpful feature.

Hi, I think I have corrected that bug with last selected tab.

I would like to specify which file, i.e. 'tds +csv 1' or 'tds +EN-IT hello'

It would take some time to code it and I will be away for more than week.

Good to hear the last selected tab bug has been fixed! As for the specify file, it's not really a big deal, as long as the last selected feature works. If you do find time to work on it, then by all means it would be great, but it's not terribly important.

Yes, that's possible. Use something like 'minicap.exe -capturescreen -save "c:\existing\folder\$date$\capture$uniquenum$.png" -exit
516
From what I see, that searches the currently selected file for data within one of the tabs. Or am I misunderstanding?

I would like to specify which file, i.e. 'tds +csv 1' or 'tds +EN-IT hello'
517
This latest version doesn't seem to remember the last selected data file.

Also, it would be nice to be able to specify data file in search, i.e. 'tds +moviecollector fulci' or 'tds +musiccollector sonic youth'. From this I could make new aliases to quickly search specific things from any data file

TucknDar, you can try with SoftMaker Office suite if you want, it should work. The entry would be like:
INI_FILE\PathToIni.ini|tmw History|HistoryFile

If you find it working please tell me so I can add it to the FarrMostRecentlyUsed.config file.
Unfortunately I can't get it working... I've tried putting it in the FarrMostRecentlyUsed.config file as well, just to check, but no. The FarrMostRecentlyUsed.user file didn't work for me with the previous version either, actually, sorry for not reporting this :-[
Well, thanks for trying anyway. If you want you can send me the respective ini file and also the full path to that ini file and I'll check it out.
Sure, I can do that. Just give me your mail address (PM or "obfuscated" here) and I'll send.

Everything else works as expected.

Another thing: Concerning the application icons, how will you approach the fact that we could have someting like Notepad++ installed in different locations? Not everyone uses the %PROGRAMFILES% and if we change this in FarrMostRecentlyUsed.config, won't that get overwritten with each new release?

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Screenshot aliases using MiniCap

Another note to users, to install this you would put the minicap directory in your FindAndRunRobot\AliasGroups\Installed directory.  That alias subdirectory is marked as Read-only from within FARR so that it can be easily updated.

If you wanted to customize some of the results, you could instead put it in your FindAndRunRobot\AliasGroups\MyCustom directory, which makes it editable from within FARR.
Yes, that's true, I actually put that in a readme within the archive, but forgot to write it here. Thanks :)

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Screenshot aliases using MiniCap
« Last post by TucknDar on July 24, 2008, 10:54 AM »
mouser's excellent Screenshot Captor does pretty much everything you need for screenshot capturing (and more) but isn't exactly a tiny lightweight app. But it's baby brother MiniCap is a command line based screenshot capture app. This makes it ideal for the quick screenshot capturing tasks, and also ideal for FARR aliases!

You'll find MiniCap here: https://www.donation...r/MiniCap/index.html

I've put together a package that includes some aliases as well as a fresh build of MiniCap itself. These aliases should cover a range of screenshot options but adding or editing should be easy enough.

to install this you would put the minicap directory in your FindAndRunRobot\AliasGroups\Installed directory.  That alias subdirectory is marked as Read-only from within FARR so that it can be easily updated.
-mouser

To use, type 'mcap' which will present you with the following commands
CommandDescription
Screen captureCaptures current screen
Last active window captureCaptures the last active window (i.e. active before launching FARR ;) )
Select region captureInteractive capture of region (traditional style mode -- locked to current screen of multimonitor)
Object captureInteractive capture of object (red box mode)
Red box region captureInteractive capture of region (red box mode)
Capture to clipboardCopy the interactively selected image to clipboard
Border shadow captureAdd a nice border and shadow to interactively selected image
DC Review captureAutosaves to "%MYDOCUMENTS%\reviews\$appname$\$windowtitle$_$uniquenum$.png"
I found this was quite helpful when working on a minireview
Multimon captureCapture entire desktop workspace (all multimonitors if more than one exists)
Delayed screen capture (4 secs)Wait 4 seconds before engaging capture of current screen
Help with MiniCapLaunches the MiniCap helpfile

Thanks goes to mouser for both a lot of help and suggestions while making the aliases and for updating MiniCap and adding several new features. Looking at several other aliases was also very helpful, so if you've released a pack of aliases I've probably looked at it in awe ;)

Latest version, 1.3, can be downloaded from my dcmembers webspace!

As an expansion of the above Movie Collector stuff I can now see using FARR to pick what movie to watch as well, based on genre or director or whatever

'tds horror' / 'tds fulci'

Thanks a lot, czechboy!

excellent!

This will be great for looking up where I've stored my DVDs!

(I store these in numbered boxes all over my apartment and use Movie Collector to catalogue them. Currently 19 boxes, each containing about 15 DVDs, and some DVDs are stored in shelves as well... With this new plugin I can export a csv of my movies that includes title and box number and instantly know where to look without launching Movie collector.)

edit: The above works perfectly!

Amazing plugin! A few credits on their way ASAP!

I've got a request: I'd like to be able to launch the Google Images search in FARRs internal browser, while the regular Google searches in my default browser. The way I see it, it would be fine to have a modifier for a search (gp +images +internal), while still the same plugin configuration option. I suppose there should also be a +external modifier, if internal launch is the default.

Hope that made sense :)
