I just gave blekko another try after leaving it for a couple of months. They are getting there. Lots more editors now, and I think they're looking for more.

I signed up quite early and got myself a T-shirt for my efforts  8)

Wow. Ok, this looks excellent. I'm doing a lot of travelling as of March, and I think this would be a really sweet way to keep bookmarks in sync without, well, syncing.

Ain't DC grand?

General Software Discussion / Re: C gibberish <-> English
« Last post by timns on January 29, 2011, 06:26 PM »

I kinda figured that was what cdecl was doing, and it's interesting in it's own right, but I wonder if it could be used as a tool to help aspiring programmers learn?

It'd probably be most useful as a tool for deciphering legacy code that's been dropped in your lap...

One day there'll be such a thing, but at that point all the clever coding will be done by systems themselves. We will be wearing silver suits and flying around in our own personal hover pods.

However, I do like your idea of a programming language whose sole purpose is to help people think in a programmy way.

Finished Programs / Re: IDEA: Drop target to move files to predefined folders
« Last post by timns on January 29, 2011, 05:03 PM »
It's had a pretty good workout so far, thanks to a lot of customer support over the last day or two. No problems at all to report!

About the one thing I am really tempted to ask for, is to have it save its current screen position back to the ini file, so I can get it "just so" by eye and know it'll be back there next time.

I warn you now - don't ask for my ideas list  8)

Hehehe...I'll make sure not to spend it right away in case you come asking for a refund.   :P

No, you go ahead and burn it all on wild living - I am perfectly happy with this thing. I have deliberately NOT set about coming up with 101 suggestions to "take it to the next level" in case it Hindenbergs on us.

It's sitting here right now, tucked away on my monitor in a dead part of the Dopus menu bar, ready for droppings.

As it were.

I absolutely agree with this, and have been bitten by this very problem recently myself. The least the developer could do would be to Open Source the software and hopefully someone would take it over.

Chris - if you'd like a hand extracting the data, I'm willing to give it a go.

The Getting Organized Experiment of 2009 / Re: AutoFocus (software) (Windows only)
« Last post by timns on January 29, 2011, 02:04 PM »
I just had a go with Autofocus' big brother, "Do It Tomorrow 3" - it's very pretty and I'm running the trial for the next couple of weeks.

If all goes well, I'll post a proper review here on DC. So far, I like the mechanism of working with the lists. I bumped into a few niggles, but the guys seem responsive on the support forum.

Mini-release, but with a couple of nice updates under the hood.

Been years since I've dealt with SAP - the commercial entity - but when our part of MCI converted, it was an ongoing disaster.  We had thrice-weekly meetings just to deal with what had gone wrong the previous week/day/report.  It's prolly a good product in its own right, but conversion from [IBM Big Iron]  DB2 was an ongoing disaster.  I think they finally got it working, but they lost a lot of productivity in the conversion, and a lot of procedures/attitudes/reports had to be adjusted along the way.  Luckily, I missed all but the initial onslaught - retirement had more advantages than I knew/appreciated at the time  :-*.

Oh you fill me with confidence  ;) Just glad I'm not paying the bill. Apparently a medium sized company (i.e. around 1000 employees or so) should budget at least $10 million for a complete SAP ERP system.

Holy moly!  :o

I like the new version. I'm running it non-stop with the 8-wheels-max setting - it is hilarious.

I am annoyed through that only some of the wheels seem to be 'powered'. Some touch the ground at times but don't propel it at all, making me slide back down on ramps after a few amusing flips. :(

Every time that happens, in my mind I hear the muted trumpet of disappointment: wah-wah-waaaahhh

This reminds me of those old black-and-white movies you see of inventors rolling out their ridiculous-looking planes with about 20 wings that collapse as soon as the engine starts, set to jaunty music.

edit: @nudone: ooh, synchronicity!

She's on top form:

(various waffle removed)
I am Mrs. Brenda Binti Samir ,the daughter of Mr.Ahmad Samir, both of  us are
citizens of the Brunei. my father worked  with the Chevron/Texaco in Brunei

for twenty years before he  died in the year 2003.He were married for ten

years without a child.
My Father died after a brief illness that lasted for only

four days.  Before his death he both got born-again as dedicated Muslims.

When my late father was alive he deposited the sum of 7.5million GBP with

a bank in europe and the bank just wrote me.

etc etc blah blah blah

... so where exactly did she come from?

Scores are pretty meaningless, as everyone gets a random terrain. My terrain is an absolute pain - I ought to restart but I'm just curious to see if it ever passes its old record. :)

Oh damn, so what's the point of that? There's a lot of potential for a "game" like this to become more competitive: one challenge, who can breed the best machine to stay the course?

It looks fun, but what's the parameter used to determine when a new car is generated?

Every contraption I've seen so far seems to "survive" for a mere couple of seconds :( - IMHO the stopping parameter should be "hasn't moved for n seconds", whereas it seems to currently be pretty much random.

I think this is simply due to the physics engine running very quickly. Looking on my system, it's evaluating at around 500 fps, so the algorithm is looking well ahead of the graphics and simply knows the moment it's time to cull this machine while the animation is catching up.

We deleted InstallShield recently. Shredded the disks, and burned effigies of the developers.

We settled on Tarma: http://www.tarma.com/ and so far have been extremely happy. Their support is very responsive too.
