Found Deals and Discounts / Re: 1 free PageFour license (and one only)
« Last post by Curt on March 11, 2009, 12:11 PM »
- actually I was thinking about this some time ago. However, I have come to realize that other people are using this kind of programs for many different purposes / in many different ways, also very different from what I use it for, and how, and after all so different that I won't try do it.

But maybe it would pay out to put a pressure on tomos? He received the license in question...

General Software Discussion / SnapFiles dying?
« Last post by Curt on March 10, 2009, 09:34 AM »
It has been a while, almost a week, since the last time SnapFiles Pro listed any new programs or updates. I can see that parts of SnapFiles are working well, but not "What's New", which is my default view. Does any of you know if SnapFiles are dying, resting, being attacked, or what? I have a PRO subscription, but doesn't get what I have paid for. Should I complain? If so, where?

Startup Delayer 2.5 build 136 was released a couple of days ago, but has already been replaced by build 138:

Startup Delayer 2.5 build 138 has been released and is ready to download!

This release fixes 2 bugs, one that causes Space evenly to generate a Run-time 9 - subscript out of range error, and the other that fixes a bug that made disabling some items have no effect. Thanks to Alec and Gary for helping me track these down!

You can download it from: http://www.r2.com.au...&show=startdelay

Complete list of changes: http://www.r2.com.au...=startdelay_v2.5b138

Enjoy!

General Software Discussion / Re: What's your preferred File Manager
« Last post by Curt on March 03, 2009, 11:55 AM »
This one I hadn't heard about before: FileSurfer.

FileSurfer has been renamed, zirpher, and moved to a new site, and is apparently no longer in beta

http://www.zirpher.com/

(version 3.4, uploaded on January 17, 2009; 1.95 MB).

Zirpher is freeware. Just unzip the application and click on Zirpher.exe. All configuration data is stored inside the created folder, Zirpher does not copy dll's and does not create registry entries. To uninstall the application, simply delete the complete folder.

... IrfanView, however there are 14 folders you can set as default at any time and pressing F7 will move to currently selected folder.

- I had forgotten about this feature - thanks for telling!

The XnView Shell extension is a keeper, BTW.

If you keep IrfanView, you might want to try the free DLL from BAxBEx,

- works well with Vista, also.

It is, though, as advanced as any other renamer
- if you know how to create regular expressions!

And it supports Unicode, which too many others don't.

There are a lot of renamers, and many of them may suit you better than Better. However, Better has a special feature that is easy to overlook (: miss) but which I have learned to love: you can create a droplet, A Better Droplet ("Drag & drop files and folders onto these droplets to apply the stored settings. This allows you to automate the renaming part of your workflow"), for automated batch renaming.

For a year or so I have been downloading musicfiles from my Internet supplier. These files are always named with the prefix "tdcplay_", which I of course will want to rename. For this particular job Better File Rename is just perfect! I grab the unzipped folders and drop them on top of my "tdc.dpt" file, and they are renamed! No windows, no messages to click, no nothing, the folders and the files within them are just renamed. Of course there must be other programs offering the same feature, but I really like this part of Better File Rename, because of the lack of popups you'll need to click.

For many other renaming jobs I will most likely use File Renamer Turbo, or the renaming part of StExBar.

Startup Delayer 2.4 build 135 has been released and is ready to download!

You can download it from here: http://www.r2.com.au...&show=startdelay

The changes are as follows:

1   Fixed a bug where the StartIn path from shortcuts wasn't being properly read
2   Added support for tracking the IconFile and IconIndex used in a shortcut so that it can be restored
3   Fixed a bug where dragging a shortcut to 0 delay when not already delayed, caused the shortcut to be removed
4   Fixed "Run-time error "5" Invalid procedure call or arguement.
5   Added Traditional Chinese Translation - Thanks Feelin Lin!
6   Updated the Dutch Translation - Thanks Piet Bruinsma
7   Removed the Concept of Safe Mode/Advanced Mode as it has been confusing too many users
8   Renamed 'Move To' to 'Change Location' (Translators you will need to send me an update!)
9   Modified 'Space Evenly' to use the current delay order for sorting. So organise your application order by delaying to random amounts and then use 'Space Evenly' to space out, keeping the order.

Enjoy!

General Software Discussion / Re: Noah is almost fantastic, but what is it?
« Last post by Curt on February 24, 2009, 08:21 AM »
Noah 1.0 was Noah, but Noah 2.0 Beta is StratoVista! http://www.stratovista.com/
However, this beta version is for invited, registered Noah users only.

The final StratoVista will be $50
Beta testers will be offered to have it for $30.

They still have a very fine video tutorial:
http://www.stratovis...ista%20Tutorial.html

Introduction

StratoVista is a new type of software platform that is designed to help you organize, manage and securely share your information with coworkers, friends, and family members, no matter where they are located. It’s a powerful collaborative tool capable of managing virtually any type of data – emails, notes, application files, appointments, contacts, Web pages, RSS feeds and more - easily and logically using a common "data canvasses" we call Topics. One of the biggest benefits of doing this is the ability to easily find what you’re looking for when you want it. After all, you can’t use, or share, your information until you find it first. And when you do, StratoVista makes collaborating with your friends and colleagues possible with just a few simple clicks of your mouse.

http://www.stratovista.com/
http://www.stratovista.com/Features.htm
http://www.stratovista.com/Tutorial.htm

As a registered Noah user you've been invited to participate in our StratoVista beta test. StratoVista, or Noah 2.0 as it was originally called, has all of the features of Noah 1.0 and much more. To compare StratoVista's set of features with Noah's go to http://www.stratovista.com/Features.htm.

StratoVista comes with a detailed user manual with embedded video tutorials for each of the key features ( http://www.stratovista.com/Tutorial.htm ).

StratoVista Beta will be made available on a first-come, first-serve basis for a limited time only. To download StratoVista Beta go to http://www.stratovista.com/StratoVista Beta.htm .

StratoVista Beta is a fully functional version of the current application with no time limits on its use. When you install StratoVista your Noah 1.0 database will be automatically upgraded (see the user manual for more details about installation).

When this beta test is complete StratoVista v1.0 will be made available to all beta users for $29.95 for a limited time (the regular price is $49.95). This price will include one year of free upgrades and online support.

I didn't know about 1saleaday until they were spoken of in a newsletter from Applian Technologies, today. The idea is close to the giveawayoftheday idea, except this is hardware, and of course not giveaways. The site looks good, and they are recommended by Applian, with the words: "sometimes they have amazing deals!".

Today's sale (clickable thumb):

They also have some funny ofthedays, Word of the day, Joke of the day, Stat of the day, History of the day, and also Buzz of the day. Buzz of the day seems to me as if it is about you making other people buying something, buzzing them to buy, I don't know. Did anyone try this, or do you care to look into what the idea behind Buzzing is about?

General Software Discussion / Re: Another System Explorer
« Last post by Curt on February 22, 2009, 05:47 PM »
-

System Explorer goes open for maximum customization.

Version 1.5 will introduce brand new plugin system.

There is no need to know any programming language for make basic customization of System Explorer.
Complex plugins can be developed under any development environment which can produce WIN32 DLL binary.

Latest Test Version of System Explorer 1.5 + SDK can be downloaded from http://systemexplore...ystemExplorerSDK.zip

Online Documentation is in progress...you can visit our Wiki at http://systemexplorer.wetpaint.com/

Do you have any questions regarding SE SDK ?
Feel free to contact me on ICQ 23411518

http://forum.misterg...ic.php?f=9&t=132

However: there is not happening too much at the forum - no plugins! - and I am somehow not convinced that the author can take his program much further.

Thanks for the ideas.

I think the application I want should be placed in Start. At every start it must scan the computer  and write the names on all applications found. It should not be able to delete, only to write & overwrite, to a single text file. That should be all.
