Tonurics: thanks for the info..

anyway to make matters worse, the company (SmartLink) that my winmodem's chipset is based on has sold off the business to another corporation. the purchasing company is mum on the availability of Linux support and the archived drivers available are for 2.4 kernels, therefore useless for 2.6 kernels that Ubuntu is based on..

but after some googling, i have found some useful threads on Ubuntu forums regarding WinModem installation. they will come in handy the next time i'm in a mood to take Ubuntu (or any other distros) for a spin. :)

General Software Discussion / Custom Folder v1.2
« Last post by lanux128 on June 17, 2007, 10:35 PM »
Custom Folder is a handy freeware that adds a highly customisable "New Folder" function to the context menu to the Windows Explorer and also supports command-line usage.

Some of the options for creating your custom folder name.
• Static text    Place static text anywhere in the mask to define your default folder name.
• DateChose from a two or four digit year mask; two digit month mask and two digit day mask.
• TimeChose from a two digit hour, minute and/or second field and add an optional three digit millisecond field.
• IncrementBy adding a simple switch, Custom Folder will automatically add a three digit incremented identifier to a default mask, making it ideal for backups or version control.
• TrimHelping you to keep your filing tidy, the "trim" switch instructs Custom Folder to trim any blank spaces from either end of the default folder name, ensuring that subsequent searches or batch operations are not bugged by unseen leading or trailing spaces.

Also notice that there's 'forum.donationcoder.com' (without www), which is only 1 character longer than 'www.donationcoder.com'
thanks for the tip, jgpaiva! i didn't know that.. i usually type only 'donationcoder' and use Ctrl+Enter to fill out the rest but this will do for the time being.. :)

If you all have extra money lying around, I'll give you a phone number to call. When the lady answers, get out your credit card and have a case of beer sent to my address.
  ;D ;D ;D

also, you might want to try the alternatives mentioned above.. :)

« Last post by lanux128 on June 13, 2007, 10:00 AM »
i know of this freeware, Directory Monitor Utility but it hasn't been updated for some time.. :)

Directory Monitor Utility allows to monitor a selected folder (and subfolders) for changes. You can select the criteria to monitor from a list, including file name changes, size changes, attribute changes, time changes and more. The program then works in background and generates a HTML log of file system changes. It also offers a statistical overview by clicking on the tray icon while it is running.
