My 300GB Raptor arrived yesterday.  I'll try it out today on my current computer.  Next thing to do is buy the rest of the parts.

We have looked at the function today and it's only a display glitch (which will be fixed). The rating is assigned, you can see this by doing the same query again (click on query button).

You're right, it's just a bug.  The ratings are working.

There's a freeware thing out there for this.  Let me try to remember and I'll post back.

Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Should I change my profile logo?
« Last post by superboyac on January 06, 2009, 11:39 AM »
I changed the logo.  I found a vector graphics crown, so I used it.

Should I change my profile logo here, or do people prefer you keep the same picture since they recognize it?

My first Autocad tip.  Extra thanks to hamradio for creating the logo!!

Aargh! How frustrating.  Darn, that would have made everything perfect.  It's not that big a deal, I suppose.  It just gets a little annoying with all the tabs...I hope a workaround comes about later.

OK, Outertech said that it is not possible to open bookmarks in the current tab (as opposed to a new tab, or new window).  Is this really true?  I'm not saying it isn't, I just find it a little hard to believe it can't be done.  In the version history for TabMix (a firefox addon) they are able to open links in current tabs.

Thanks for the sortiing tip, very helpful.  I'm close to committing to Linkman.

Why does Overstock.com have the Logitech Wave keyboard available at two different prices?
$26
$54

Is overstock a good place to buy?

Here are my thoughts on the latest version 7.70 (all related to Firefox integration):

First of all, in the "search in linkman" right-click, you can now use the up/down arrow to move from the query box into the results pane.  That is just fantastic.  Really, that's a big deal.  Thank you for that.  That makes the program just about perfect.  In fact, as far as that search box goes, it's everything I want it to be.  Also, the escape key works great in clearing/exiting.  These quick shortcuts mean everything to the Powermarks users.  In fact, in some ways, it's better.

Now, I am still looking for two more buttons to be added in Firefox.  You have the silently add button already, but we two more buttons for "search in linkman" and "add and edit".  Actually, in the right-click, you have 4 functions there.  It would be ideal if we could have all 4 functions available as buttons.
Since right-clicking on the Linkman Fox icon gives you all four possibilities, why would you want separate buttons?  Wouldn't that just add clutter?
No, it would be better.  Of course, there should be the option of which buttons you want to show.  So everyone's happy.  In my case (and many others I'm guessing) when we're clicking around with the mouse, it's just easier to click a button, then click a bookmark and go.

This program is shaping up very nicely.  It's a replacement for Powermarks already in my book.  In fact, ever since trying out the latest version, I'm convinced that Outertech will further improve the program and help us forget about Powermarks.  So, I'm now going to FINALLY install Firefox 3 at home, since I now have a good bookmark manager to use with it.

Feature requests:
--Add all 4 buttons to Firefox.  (Search in Linkman, Show Linkman, add to linkman, add to linkman and edit)

--Allow users to control which buttons appear or not.

--Import launch count from Powermarks.

--Allow secondary column sorting.  For example, if I want to sort by launch count, but the launch count is equal, then the secondary sort can be set to rating or description, etc.

--Allow batch assigning ratings.  If I select a bunch of bookmarks and want them all rated "2" then I should be able to do it.  Now, if I select them all and go to assign a rating, it only does one of them.

I can't wait to build my new computer.
I can't wait to start grad school (assuming I get in).
I look forward to doing some interesting things with my music, if I have time.
And, of course, continue to have unsuccessful relationships.  One of these has to hit!

Since this was discussed earlier, I wanted to see exactly how much money was being "wasted" on this system.  So here's a very quick estimate of the spoiled factor in the cost:
ITEMPRICEEXCESS $$
Motherboard$140+$40
CPU$270+$70
Monitor$600+$300
Main Hard Drive$200+$30
Storage Hard Drive$130+$0
Backup Hard Drive #1$130+$0
Backup Hard Drive #2$130+$0
External HD Enclosure$70+$50
RAM$80+$0
Graphics Card$200+$100
Audio Mixing Board$300+$0
Pro Audio Card$0+$0
Case$190+$100
Mouse$70+$40
Keyboard$50+$30
DVD/CD Burner$0+$0
56k PCI Modem$0+$0
Power Supply$135+$30

How much I'm spoiling myself:  $790

That's almost $800, but the question to ask is where do I really draw the line?  $300 of it comes from just the extra monitor, but you know, I just want a luxurious amount of screen space, ok?  The rest is just the difference between solid, average hardware and really nice, functional hardware.  And if anyone knows me, they know I have to have quality.  So an extra $500-$800 isn't going to kill me.  Especially once every 7 years.  And if it weren't for the freaking hedge fund fiasco, I wouldn't even worry about it for a second, considering what I'd be doing in 7 years.  Anyway, I digress...this is fine for now.  I'm excited!

OK, first item to buy, the WD Raptor 300GB hard drive.  Why?  Because Newegg has a $30 rebate that expires soon (1/04/2009).  So I can currently get it for $200, which seems to be the cheapest price on the web so far.  Free shipping, whoo!

Yeah, this place is great.  Great job mouser, you are the man.

I'm still amazed by how polite everyone is here...I have never seen that in a forum for this long a time.  It's just unheard of.

Ah!!  I'll forget about it.  I don't even have any HD movies, nor do I plan on having any.  When the time comes, I'll get it then.

What about the LG GGC-H20L?  It burns CD/DVD and plays BluRay?  It's only $100 if I go to Fry's tonight or tomorrow:

Way cheaper than Pioneer.

Wait...
How about a combo drive for recording DVD/CD, but also can playback BluRay?  At least I can watch the movies.

Nice!  Good enough for me, then!

Well, I think the first item to get is this WD Raptor drive.  Newegg has a rebate for it which makes the price $200 for the 300GB model.  In my list, I have the 150GB model for $170, so it makes sense to upgrade that to 300GB for only $30 more.  Unless I change my mind, I'll buy this in a couple of days.

OK, no Bluray burner then.  I'll just reuse my existing NEC DVD/CD combo burner, it's fine.

I was reading this anandtech article about 650-680 W PSU's.  I'll go with it's recommendation and get the Hiper HPU-5B680 model.

Well, it looks like my system is finished for the time being.  Now, I need to sit on it for a while.  I'll check out all the prices and the stores to see where the best deals are.  I'll add stuff if I've forgot anything.  Very cool!

What is the point of an HD burner - the HD-DVD format is dead and gone.
Really, even blu ray?  OK, well, then forget about it.  So, what is all this I'm hearing about 50GB discs?
