hey! I thought all dc members loved finding obscure little programmes to make this kind of thing easier!

- we have plenty of the kind, buried inside the Snack thread (which needs a cleaning!).

But not all of those kiddies have the patience to memorize ASCII or fire up charmap!

You are right; I forgot that an American keyboard is different from mine. On my Danish keyboard the "¨" is the last bütton before "Enter"!

What also annoys me, but again not to no end, is yet another American thing: "uber". Any child, outside of America, that is, will know it is "über", with an umlaut.  :P

I've "always" thought that the normal asking price for Bolide Image Comparer, $35, was a little too high, but this one-day-offer, coming up Wednesday, should make the price just right. $23 at Bits du Jour / Daily-Deals. I already bought it for $35, and I am satisfied with the program.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Mini-Review of FileBoss
« Last post by Curt on August 13, 2009, 02:29 AM »
FileBosss was just updated to version 2.5. There might also come a version 2.6, but after such, FileBoss will take the major leap into version 3.0, which finally will fully support Unicode. Good! Because of the lack of genuine Unicode support, I have so far never used my FileBoss, more than on rare occasions.

------
Just a little something from tips & tricks:

Tips and Tricks

Meta-Variables

Did you know that you can use meta-variables when entering paths (such as destinations for copying) or when renaming a file. For example when renaming the file Family.jpg you could type Family <today>.jpg and FileBoss will replace <today> with the current date. If you enter <now> FileBoss will replace it with the current date and time.

In the same way you could enter the target for backup operation as:

   D:\Backups\Accounts\<today>

and FileBoss will create a folder named with today's date and copy the files and folders to it.

I don't expect version 3.0 to be launched this year.

I live in Denmark, so I really don't have anything to annoy me (unless I travel on the Internet... - as CleverCat said: >google for "FREE software" and get anything but free!<), but when I read Deozaan's post I nevertheless felt a need to respond:

Gay marriage: People like me who don't believe gay marriage should be legally allowed are often called homophobic, and hateful. I have my reasons for thinking this is a bad idea, but these sorts of topics are kind of off limits to the forum. I just want to say that I'm not homophobic or hateful toward homosexuals. I have friends who are gay, have met gay people in the workplace and school, and I enjoy their friendship.

It really annoys me (though not "to no end") when a pleasant and joyous feeling like being gay is interpreted as, being a homosexual!

To explain a little better I have uploaded an innocent but yet NSFW image
(remember to also read the pic's integrated two texts):

gay rainbow stockings
click thumbnail for large view, so you can read the two texts:
gay rainbows.jpg

Some Americans may not get it, but I am gay because I am not not a gay.

---

What can annoy me "to no end" is when I see someone being bullied to do what is wrong,
- then "to no end" really means T R O U B L E S !

I use a variety of related program$, because none of them will do it all, on its own, and in general I like to try this and that. Of course there will be quite some overlapping..., and expenses.

1) PS Hot Folders
2) FileBox eXtender
3) AnVir Task Manager Pro (!) I don't recall what the free version can do.
4) PikyFolders (part of PikySuite)

Not sure about your second question, Curt. Did you allow Corel to change your file associations?
2) The first file I edited will not be read by any other program. Not even by Explorer!
What setting(s) may I need to change?

Sorry. I now see that I forgot to tell that I saved my first file as "Lossless" which for some very strange  reason only can be done deep down in the settings. Maybe this was the problem, the Corel version of Lossless?

I will test this, tomorrow, but not today.

No, I did not allow any associations.

I am not too sure of what to think of this giveaway, yet. Is it mine, or a trial?

1) I've followed the procedure, but keep getting this offer to upgrade.
Can it be stopped (other than by upgrading)? I am only offered to see it once per day/week/month.

RoboImport will do the job.
Will even be on sale at Bits du Jour, this Wednesday, for $15

http://www.bitsdujou...software/roboimport/
http://picajet.com/e....php?page=roboimport
RoboImport automatically launches when you connect your camera, creates separate folders to hold your images, then imports your photos into those folders, automatically renaming files and performing image editing operations to make them perfect!

RoboImport lets you:

    * Automate the process of importing, naming, and sorting your digital photos.
    * Rename files and folders with descriptive phrases for easy identification.
    * Free up space on your camera card by having RoboImport import the photos and delete them from the card.

Here's an example of a possible RoboImport workflow:

    * Connect your camera to your PC
    * Import the files
    * Delete the files from your camera flash card
    * Batch rename your imported files
    * Add your copyright information
    * Rotate images where necessary
    * Convert RAW files to DNG format
    * Correct image resolution
    * Catalogue your images and batch edit EXIF/IPTC data
    * Add a piece of the GPS information
    * Copy image backups to a CD, DVD or external hard disk

General Software Discussion / Re: WMP & lots of tiny .wav files
« Last post by Curt on July 09, 2009, 03:41 PM »
- no, the problem is the site, frenchassistent. Their loudspeaker icons will open a new tab/window, to play the file, or, if you don't have the proper plug-in, upload the audio file, for you to download. I tried it, and I don't like it; one really has to hit the back button far too often!

But you will have to be a registered member  before you can test this further.

Sarah, a third possibility is, that you *may* have missed to installed the proper plugins when you installed Firefox, because the sound files at frenchassistent will pop up in a new tab/window, they should not be downloaded. If so, go to https://addons.mozil...irefox/browse/type:7 , scroll down, and and get some.

General Software Discussion / HowTo compare locally stored emails with GMails?
« Last post by Curt on July 05, 2009, 05:01 PM »
Today I noticed that there is a difference of 16 emails between my local Thunderbird folder and my GMail back-up account, and I wonder what might be the easiest way to tell which mails I am missing, please?

I have both folders inside my (Vista) Thunderbird 2.0 (I almost never actually go to GMail), so I was hoping the job somehow also could be done locally, so to speak?

Found Deals and Discounts / K7 TotalSecurity 9.0
« Last post by Curt on July 01, 2009, 12:03 PM »
Incomedia (makers of Website X5) are running a campaign for K7 TotalSecurity 9.0. As far as I (don't?) remember  K7 is Chinese, but here it is merely called "a third party offer". The promotion email says $30 for a license, but when you arrive the homepage it shows to actually be $35 (1 User, 1 Year), which is said to (merely) be a 15% rebate. Not much, I think. For an additional $10, making it $45, you can have 3 licenses (3 Users, 1 Year), which improves on the offer. However, K7 is said to be really good, VB100 and such, which of course is why I am telling about this.

4799
    * Ctrl-F key command to toggle the Find Toolbar on and off.

That last bullet point makes the extension worth installing all by itself. Why the Mozilla team didn't make Ctrl-F a toggle is a mystery to me.

- nice feature. And to make it even easier, just hit Escape.
