Well I'm against DC shutting down to protest SOPA/PIPA. >:( It doesn't make sense to me and I don't see how it helps the cause.

In protest of this, I won't be visiting DC on Jan 18! 8)

she can (and does) do all that 'stuff' live in case you're wondering.

How does she do the "wub wubwub" stuff live?

Well... You'd probably want to record it and then release it as a podcast later, right?

With our international userbase here, I can't see a single time when it would be good for people to tune in live.

Can someone explain the logic to me?

In opposition of legislation that could force the shutdown of parts the internet, we're going to voluntarily shutdown parts of the internet? :tellme:

I don't like SOPA/PIPA and I'm opposed to them, for sure. But I just don't understand how voluntarily submitting to what you're opposing is really any useful sign of opposition. :-\

That would be like opposing a war by signing up to join the military. Or showing your disapproval of McDonald's by having everybody buy a Big Mac with fries and a shake. It just doesn't make sense to me.

One of the poker players on those poker shows says he keeps llamas. (No joke, I just forget who.) He says of course the first is named Dalai.

Did you ever see the movie Napoleon Dynamite? The llama in that movie (called Tina in the film) is really named Dolly.

And the sale/promotion is over.

Sophie has already published the results, which were very interesting:

So then, the quick-mathed of you will have already counted up that this week I sold 402 copies and the total gross income (before fastspring’s cut, before tax etc) is $881.03.

Read the rest of it on Sophie's blog.

Today is the last day of the promotion and the game is going for $1 USD.

I think it's worth more than that but even if it's just mildly entertaining to you it should be worth $1.

Living Room / Re: Calculator 7 project at Codeplex to equal Win7 Calculator?
« Last post by Deozaan on January 15, 2012, 05:22 PM »
The Windows 7 calculator is decent, but it's still a step down from the Microsoft PowerToy Power Calculator for Windows XP.

I want that back.

Frankly, Linux is hard enough for new users to get a grip on, but now having to start with arcane secret hacks just to unhook Windows will be the end.

The "arcane secret hacks" don't stop them from "rooting" their Android device, "jailbreaking" their iOS device, or otherwise "hacking" their Wii, PS3, calculator, toaster, microwave, watch, printer, etc., to get Linux on it.

This is a really minor request that seems kind of silly to ask for... :-[ but it's really bothering me that the NANY badges are not in order on my profile. :(

NANY Badge Order.png

Would it be possible for them to be listed in reverse-chronological order (so that they count down, e.g. 12, 10, 9) on my profile?

DcUpdater / Re: DcUpdater Bug: 1.2.3 is the same as 1.2.3a
« Last post by Deozaan on January 13, 2012, 02:53 AM »
Maintenance releases (i.e. bug fixes only) would generally be denoted as 1.81a, 1.81b, etc.

DcUpdater won't work with such a versioning system.

DcUpdater / DcUpdater Bug: 1.2.3 is the same as 1.2.3a
« Last post by Deozaan on January 13, 2012, 01:48 AM »
DcUpdater seems to only check for numbers and does not differentiate between versions that have letters in them but are otherwise the same.

It will see all of the below examples as being the same version.

1.2.3
1.2.3a
1.2.3abcdefg
1.2.3.abcd

I've just added a visual turn indicator to the game to make it much easier to see which team's turn it currently is.

DC Gamer Club / Swift☆Stitch - Pay When You Want Week
« Last post by Deozaan on January 08, 2012, 07:02 PM »
IT'S PAY WHEN YOU WANT WEEK!
TODAY'S PRICE: $3.50

Every day, a different price! Sometimes it will go up, sometimes it will go down. If you don't like the price, check back tomorrow!
(price changes at midnight UTC, normal price is $7)

Swift☆Stitch is an (almost) switch game, meaning you control it with (almost) only one button. Your ship/car/pod goes in one direction and you hold down a button to make it change directions. You can also press a different button to engage slow-motion mode for a short time. I'm not really sure how to describe it so I'll let Sophie, the creator, explain it:

Swift*Stitch is a game about going fast, taking the right route and trying not to crash into stuff.

Here's a list:
  • 2 Button control
  • 3 Game modes
  • 42 Levels
  • 7 Speed settings
  • Achievements
  • Cool vector graphics
  • Customisable appearance (colourblind friendly!)
  • 8 tune soundtrack by Aeronic
  • DRM-free

And here's a video of the game being played:

Try out the demo and/or buy the game (when you want) at the Swift☆Stitch website.

Deozaan, please allow things to grow, not stay where it was. Please do not understand me wrong, but if we do not try something new, the enthusiasm of NANY may die some day. Case in point Win8, IPad, to try something new.

In that case I want the NANY Winner certificate with my name on it as the mug design.
4766
Wow!

I've just realized to ask: What did you two eat? Were there places to buy food along the way or did you pack it all or eat off the land or what?
4767
I watched it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with calling us winners. I don't see how it is much different from NaNoWriMo, an event where you have one month to write 50,000 words, and anybody who succeeds in the challenge is considered a winner.

NANY is an event where you have until New Year's Eve to submit an application, and anybody who succeeds in that challenge is considered a winner.

That said, looking at my previous two NANY mugs (from '09 and '10) it seems that they don't make any mention of the fact that I was a participant or a winner or a completionist or anything like that. Perhaps this entire problem could be resolved if this year's mug followed the same trent.

Woohoo! I sincerely regret not submitting a NANY for 2011 for two reasons: I didn't get one of these fancy badges and I didn't get a mug. :(

I'm glad I'll be getting both this year.

Also a big thanks to the anonymous donor(s) who paid for the reward mugs. :-*

General Software Discussion / Re: send email after some delay
« Last post by Deozaan on January 05, 2012, 10:56 PM »
Unsend only works if the receiving server wants to let it (most don't...). So unless Gmail is intentionally tarpit-ing their outbount mail...that "feature" is a crap shoot.

When the feature is enabled, Gmail intentionally delays the sending of the e-mail for a few seconds.

Which loosely qualifies as tar-pitting. But OP mentioned they're using Outlook which Google may not honor requests from. Historically unsend is iffy outside of a closed system because the receiving server can (and typically does) refuse the delete request.

I'm not really intending on dragging this thread off topic, and you seem much more knowledgeable about this than I am, but I just thought what Google did with Undo Send was to put your mail on a delay timer so that it wasn't sent at all until after the time you had to "Undo Send" had passed. I didn't think it actually sent it immediately and then tried to take it back if you pressed the undo button.
4772
Most of them I've seen are "music videos." That is, somebody wanted to put a song on YouTube but didn't have a video to go with it, so they made a slideshow that may or may not be related to the song/band so that you wouldn't be staring at a blank screen the entire time.

Interesting. It didn't create a desktop shortcut nor did it make any links in the Start Menu. Maybe I need to re-run it as administrator to give it permission to make those links.

Maybe I should have mentioned that all my torrenting/Usenet is done on a headless XP Pro system so that's the only system that IPFilterUpdater is installed on.

It sounds like you're trying to install on W7, sorry, can't help you there :)

Yes. Windows 7x64.

I ran the extractor again with admin permissions and it created a desktop shortcut as it should. (But didn't create a start menu shortcut that I can see.) Thanks again.

This probably isn't very helpful, but Gmail can do something like this already. It gives you a few seconds to "Undo Send" in case you want to change something.

Gmail Undo Send.png

You can find/enable it in Gmail Labs from the Settings page.
