The author of pacemaker will just tell you to revert to an older version of Winamp. He really doesn't care about how it works with current versions. Trust me, I contacted him once about 3 or 4 years ago.

How could it be worse than SP2?

I use this: Netoscope. Not sure if this is exactly what you want. Should do the trick though.

Actually, I use FolderSizes for big jobs. It's stable, fast, can work in the background with no problems, tons of options, excellent GUI.

You should also check out DiskView which actually integrates with explorer. I find it a pig on system resources though. Although I tested in on my old comp.

Actually, if you toggle that off in the folder options menu, when using the the context menu toggle it shows/hides them too.

Nah, Mp3tag is just for tagging and you can use regular ,which makes it uber-powerful. Plus it tags everything; APE, WavPack, FLAC, MPC, OGG......

Once audio files are properly tagged, I just load them up in Winamp's library which instantly orders everything using your tag info.

I use TreeSize, select a drive/directory and call it from your context menu. Just updated about a week ago.

Some other cool free apps there too.

Let say you have some groups in the programs main dialog such as; Clips, Saved, Images, or whatever. Now when you click on the try icon or call the menu to pop up at your cursor there should be:
  Clips >
  Saved >
  Images > Image1.jpg
                  Image2.jpg
                  Image3.jpg

Understand? Now when you click these, Images for example,  you get a submenu containing the contents of those groups. I didn't notice this feature in ClipMate.

I was hoping for some better cleanup options, like removing pipes on the fly. Capture text > remove pipe > next paste, no pipe. You think it can do this? Nope! Actually, I don't think any of the ones I've tried can do this, not even ClipMate. I don't even think spell check was added.

Plus it's not that I'm looking for more features, it's missing the ones I like: the expandable menus from the tray and hot key popup for example...the one big reason I never went to ClipMate, even with ClipCache chronic loss of sync with the clipboard in XP and the auto repair clipboard chain doesn't work and never was fixed.

And another gripe, the tool bar icons look even older and outdated than the current version.

There is a real lack of decent clip board programs on the market, ones that integrate with a windows style environment and and cluttered eye sores that is.

Mouser's is looking nice but has a long way to go before I can use it.

General Software Discussion / Re: Best FREE IRC client?
« Last post by Nighted on November 17, 2005, 08:52 AM »
The IRC plugin in Miranda is a bit better than the one included with Trillian. I've been playing around with Miranda lately and tweaking a few of the addons I found on the site. Something to put on my flash drive when I'm travelling. So far I've configured it quite satisfactorily....

mIRC is still the best for me though, I think. I have a lot of memories from mIRC and love making scripts once in a while. I also have a post card from Kahled on my refrigerator.  :D

General Software Discussion / ClipCache Plus 3.xx Preview...Don't Get Too Excited
« Last post by Nighted on November 17, 2005, 05:33 AM »
Hey guys, I recently got my hands on a preview of the next release of ClipCache. To those who know and love it, you know why...well, it's not quite what I'd expected. It's no where near what you'd think it would be after all these years of waiting for a 3.xx build. Anyway, if you want to try it, it's right here.

I've posted the link to save you the bother of signing up at the forum just to get to it.

You will need this key to install it: kjd$9h34fh*kjf2923

I feel like I've lost an old friend. I'm going to miss this program.  :(

Finished Programs / ARGH!!!! How To Save View In Open/Save Dialog???
« Last post by Nighted on November 11, 2005, 01:52 AM »
Is there a small fix that allows you to choose the view in the open/save dialog and keep it that way?

I have having to switch to thumbs everytime in some programs that don't support drag and drop.

For example, I was playing with a screensaver making program and everytime I want to select another image I have to open that dreaded open/save dialog and switch to thumbview.

Anyway, I got tired of doing that and forgot about it.

Is there a way to do this or a way to patch it?

Thanks!

MSI's forum was the first place I went.

No one I know has a DDR2 board...So I'm out of luck there, nor does anyone have a 775 socket board.

I may have to send it all back.

I went to a computer shop and was told it would be $45 to have it tested. No thanks! I'll call the company and find out what they want to do about it.

Thanks for the help though. It's just one of those things that could be anything to a lot of people. Anyway, I'm gong to invest in a few diagnostic tools after this. It's frustrating not being able to tell what's going on. Usually the BIOS is the indicator but with no BIOS I'm s.o.l.! :D

I'm going to say it's the board though. I think a dead CPU wouldn't impede access to the BIOS. I'll know all this soon enough when I have time to test some hardware without a CPU.

no, it's not overheating. It ran fine for 4 days straight, 24 hours a day. When the BIOS was running it was monitoring the CPU temp and it was normal. I also have a very large Thermaltake copper core cooling fan with heat pipes on the CPU, 2 fans in the front of the case cooling my hard drives, another fan on the Northbridge chip, another on the back, on one the top of the case and two within the PSU itself.

It's not overclocked. It's got a Celeron in it and I wouldn't get crazy with a Celeron. The only reason it's a Celeron is because I needed anything to run it until I can afford a decent Pentium chip and a PCIe video card.

The CPU used a socket 775 slot, so it's almost idiot proof. I just aligned it, locked the lever, applied my thermal goo and screwed down my heat sink and massive fan.

The RAM is seated in the proper slot, closest to the processor.

Now the mother board does nothing. No BIOS, nothing. It's not the video card, I'm using that now in this machine. I removed everything and tried getting back into the BIOS. No go. I've been in and out of many machines and have never had this problem. Everything is seated properly, and there are no burn marks or smells. The board powers up nicely and all the fans and drives spin up....just no BIOS, no error beeps. I'm pretty sure the board is dead and I know this happens fairly often...just never to me, until now. :(

Oh well, at least I got this old machine back together in one piece and I have a back up at the ready when I get my new one working again. Maybe I'll even use this as a firewall and virus scanner.

Does anyone know if a BIOS can be accessed on a board with no CPU or RAM? Guess I'll find out soon...

Well, I haven't been around for awhile, here's why:

My new mobo died after 4 days out of the box and I could use some advice as I'm going to have to figure out what to return to the online company that I purchased it from. Could it be the processor?

I put together a:
MSI P4N SLI mobo with a 3ghz Celeron and 512mb chunk of Geil 667 RAM with a 480 watt Mutant Mods PSU.

After 4 days of operating fine, yesterday I was talking on Skype and my machine went cold, lights out.  :o

Tried rebooting, can hear CPU crunching, fans and lights working, DVD drive blinking, hard drives are humming but monitor remains in sleep mode and there are no POST beeps to be heard. Tried resetting the CMOS, nada...no luck. Tried booting a few hours later and the monitor came on and I got into the BIOS so I let it sit like that. After a few minutes it died again. Does this mean anything to anyone?

Would a dead CPU prevent the BIOS from being accessed or is the BIOS able to operate without a CPU?

Would a dead mobo be able to boot again but only for a brief time?

Argh!!!!

More sys info:

Motherboard: MSI P4N SLI
BIOS: AMI (version? Don't know...mobo is dead)
CPU: Intel Celeron D 340 2.93Ghz
RAM: Geil 512Mb PC5300 677Mhz DDR2 X1 Slot
GPU: ATI Radion 8Mb PCI (I have no PCIe card at the moment)
PSU: Mutant Mods 480 Watt PSU: +3.3V/30A, +5V/45A, +12V/26A
HDD: 30Gb Quantum Fire Ball IDE Master/120 Gb Maxtor IDE Slave
DVD: LG GSA-4120B
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2

...all housed in a Lian Li case with mobo risers all in the correct places. No shorts anywhere.
