Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Re: Rainmeter 2.0 Unleashed
« Last post by timns on February 06, 2011, 02:45 PM »
You just made my day. I've used rainmeter for years and love it - my desktop is awash with it, and it's a lot more than just eye-candy.

If no-one else reviews, I'll step up in a couple of weeks and give it a shot.

timns,

Thank you for the new release.

I regret that instant triggering is not added :)

Ah, give it time - I'm thinking about that.

If I a user wants to replace a letter in a word and use the spacebar as trigger then there is a space too much in the word.

But no reason not te be happy. ;)
Robbero

That's the spirit ;)

I have not seen the extra space problem - can you show me somehow please?

Still getting the ghost tab - see attached screen.
And double-click on the tray icon still won't open Haruspex, sorry Auspex.

Also, but I think I mentioned this before : if you create a new folder then add an entry to that folder, then drag that new folder into, for example, 'Autocompletions', it stays there but if you then click on the 'renew' button the new folder comes back out of the parent folder and a blank entry is created, which causes an access violation (see screen2) when you try to delete it.

Otherwise looking good...

Thanks, good error report. No idea about the ghost window, in that I have never seen it here, sorry. Are you running anything that affects the taskbar or system tray? Just in case there's something I can check.

Here she be. Several bug fixes and improvements. Please see the history for a brief overview.

@cranioscopical, I finally updated the Completion handling for you. If you now choose 'Space' as your trigger character, a space will be appended to the word when it's auto-typed for you. Hope that's what you were looking for!

You can bulk update all your existing Completions - simply select them all in the tree, and change the trigger combobox.

About autocomplete... would it be possible to add a feature
to avoid Auspex capturing words when I type?
I would like to keep/use Autocomplete but only for words I insert in the key list.

You can do that already - go to the Options, and just increase the setting of

"Consider words of [xxx] letters or more for auto-completion"

to some large number, say 100.

I disabled gauges in the view menu, but everytime I reboot Auspex gauges is active again.

Ficksed  :)

Without using auspex today, I had a 50 or more access violations (see attachment).

Found and fixed. Will be in build 93 or greater, when I upload that. Along with some other nice features with thanks to all who made good suggestions.

@Cranioscopical, there's something in there just for you

That's a new record!  :o

I've actually just added some code to catch this error and report it back - I have never seen it so am relying on someone to report it to me if the new release does the same thing. The program will dump its code so I can see what's happening. I'll be uploading the new one over the weekend.

Found another minor issue in the 92 build:
When adding a replacement through the wizard, it gets auto-assigned a different icon then the one with index 0. That's fine, though it could be an option in the options screen. But when later selecting the replacement for editing, that icon isn't reflected in the Icon combobox in the editing area. :(

Added to redmine...

timns, I can't remember having seen an explanation of the origin of the name Auspex - is it this, or this, or even this?

Ha! Love those links :)

It's this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augur - in other words, it's supposed to predict your future, by suggesting what you were about to type next.

I'll have to add something to the wiki - thanks for asking about it  :-*

I noted a few more things:

I noted also that my Mnemonic field was expanded a few times with the text in replacement.
Maybe I have to add Auspex to the exception window :)

Sorry for all my questions.

I'll have a look at that! A list of tokens is available here:

... where control+space is autocompletion for variables and functions. I don't think that keyboard combo can be changed?

It's not Ctrl-Space, but a dead key, like ', followed by a space that produces the '. If it where Ctrl-space I wouldn't be able to use it either ;)

@roberro: The dead keys are so natural and transparent in daily use that it's hardly documented, because most users don't want to live without it after they discover it :-*
Most of them I have to help/learn to add the standard VS keyboard, and switch layout using left-ctrl-shift, because they have the need to disable it at times (mostly developers, using quoted strings in their sources).

Thanks for the extra info. I've only ever used dead keys when testing applications for language-compatibility, but I can see the convenience aspect.

Windows does have the "US International" keyboarddriver available, that can be installed next to the much used US keyboard, and is easily activated/switched by a left-ctrl-shift press. Then it's even easier to type "a to get ä, 'c to get ç, ^o for ô. If you need the accent without the following letter, just press space.
I wouldn't use Auspex for that. It's correct that the standard keyboarddriver doesn't facilitate to show a popup.

Which of course totally blows my IDE's out of the water, where control+space is autocompletion for variables and functions. I don't think that keyboard combo can be changed?

Hi Robbero,

Thank you for all the comments and feedback. I'm planning a new release of the software this weekend and I will add as many features as I can from your excellent list.

Sorry about the crash - the AutoCompletions folder is where Auspx stores words that it has learned from you. I'd better prevent that from being deleted  :-[

I'll add your comments to redmine so we can track them.

Ok, here's my quick wishlist. But please note that all of this stuff is optional as far as I am concerned! Maybe if other folks also find this useful, (and how could they not?  ) we could vote on what's most desirable.

  • Remove the 'DropZone' title from the Window (or make it editable)
  • Remove the border from the Window, or make it 1 pixel thick
  • Set the window colour so as to distinguish very quickly between different zones (I have a couple running already)
  • Make it sticky to screen and/or window borders

Just one teensy problem - it always starts up in the centre of my main monitor. The ini file values look ok.

I'm an idiot.  :-[ Please clear your cache and re-download.  Should be build 0.0.0.11 now.  Sorry about that.

Bingo! Very nice, thank you. Ideas coming up after this demo...

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Shutdown Windows toolbar ( SuperboyAC special for DC!)
« Last post by timns on January 31, 2011, 09:38 PM »
This should work for Vista and 7 I think:

Wizmo

Wizmo Command Vocabulary

SHUTDOWN TRIGGER COMMANDS

standby  —  trigger Windows' standby mode
This is the shutdown mode, if supported, from which Windows can (sometimes) resume quickly. But it is still Windows, so save your files first.
Example: wizmo standby
   hibernate  —  triggers Window's long-term hibernation
If hibernation is supported by your Windows configuration, this command will trigger Windows to enter hibernation mode. This is the standby mode which Windows can remain in forever, since the system's RAM and device conditions are copied to hard disk. Hibernation is not supported by all Windows versions and configurations.
Example: wizmo hibernate
logoff  —  log off the current user
Leaves the computer running, but attempts to gracefully close all of the current user's running programs and logs the current user off.
Example: wizmo logoff
   lock  —  lock the workstation
Exactly equivalent to pressing Ctl-Alt-Del then choosing "Lock Workstation."
Example: wizmo lock
blindlock  —  lock the workstation & power-off monitors
Equivalent to pressing Ctl-Alt-Del then choosing "Lock Workstation" and keeping all system monitors powered off until login is successful.
Example: wizmo blindlock

This locks the system and powers down the monitors, forcing the logon password to be entered “blind” without the benefit of user-interface feedback. Before using this you should experiment with the regular “lock” command and using the Alt-U and Alt-P keys to select the username and password fields in case of unseen typos.
   exit  —  exit Windows
Attempts to gracefully close all of the user's running programs and exits Windows to the "safe to turn off" state. Does not power down the computer.
Example: wizmo exit
reboot  —  restart (reboot) the computer
Attempts to gracefully close all of the user's running programs, exits Windows, reboots the system and restarts Windows.
Example: wizmo reboot
   shutdown  —  shutdown the computer
Shuts down all of the user's running programs, exits Windows, then powers off the machine if supported by the system's hardware.
Example: wizmo shutdown

And quite a few other features.
