I wouldnt have been so sure oblivion was English

was it the combination of him being so articulate and then saying "non-american" that gave it away?
or
was it the use of "<sniff>" :D

You can update to the latest version by downloading from official website and just running the setup (make sure you reg with the "glary" details beforehand)

well,
I dont understand your post, so I'll ask a few questions :)

1) do you mean I can somehow register with Glary pre-install - then just install the most recent version from site (?)
2) do I have to register with 'Glary' in order to use the software ? (I've donwloaded already but not installed)
3) or are you talking about getting the details from the registry ?!?

sounds good,
homepage is http://www.actualtools.com/windowmenu/

Actual Window Menu adds several menu items to standard window menu accessible via application icon in the title bar. Among new commands are: Roll Up \ Unroll window, Set window transparency, change program priority, minimize to task tray and always keep window on top.

If I turn off the setting in mouser's screenshot, I get a black titlebar when using an aero theme

can you post (or email me) the screenshot?

Looks like the problem is Firefox related:

Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Re: Photodali Photo Manager
« Last post by tomos on April 16, 2013, 09:13 AM »
@orlandodal--apart from the fact you're supposed to state affiliation when posting--I dont think there's much point advertising your product where people are looking for a feature that your product does not have.

Try the Announce Your Software/Service/Product board and give us a bit of info about it. You *will* get interest - many people here are interested in photo managers.

Throughout last year Xara Xtreme 5 came up on giveaways at least once every two months, sometimes more.
I am pretty certain it came up several times the year before as well.

Yeah, I went to install this and realised I already had it installed :-[

@mouser[/b] - some feedback: I tried altering those transparency settings in all the different ways you suggested above. It didn't appear to make a blind bit of difference what I did.

If I turn off the setting in mouser's screenshot, I get a black titlebar when using an aero theme (using default 'architecture' theme, win7, 64bit)
I'm not sure if that's intended behaviour...

^maybe we can actually use it as a currency now (if it's stabilises)

Some could. I wouldn't willingly. Would you?  ;)

well, for example, if it stabilised, and I was buying from a trusted supplier, and it meant I could buy something a few percentage points cheaper - yes, I would.
I feel fairly neutral towards Bitcoin myself . . .

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Multiple / Selective File Associations
« Last post by tomos on April 16, 2013, 03:36 AM »
Bearpup, for files, another option would be XYplorer (file manager).
See "Portable File Associations" on this page
http://www.xyplorer....ex.php?page=portable

You can set up associations with each filetype and open a menu-list for selected file (I havent used it in a while but I think you can set it up so as a shortcut will open the menu for the selected file).

zdnet.com article says MS recommend uninstalling this patch.

Microsoft recommends that users uninstall the patch, and warns that another issue with the security update may cause anti-virus programs cease to work correctly. The Redmond giant says that Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations and Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Servers versions 6.0.4.1424 and 6.0.4.1611 may display an error message stating that licenses for the products are not valid, and so the software will cease to function.

But they dont clarify if MS mean everyone should uninstall it - or just those with problems.
They link to this from MS which talks about *if* you revceive an error.

So I guess I'll leave it in place for the moment (maybe :-\)

Shoddy journalism on the part of zdnet imo.

Well not exactly : I installed it within sandboxie, got to the webpage to get the license. Then I erased the sandbox.  So the app is not installed and I have a valid license, but if online activation is required, they may forbid it after April 29th.

Another from the FAQ's:

Why are you giving me a free Xara Xtreme 5?
There are still tens of thousands of people using very old versions of Xara X, X1 and Xtreme 2,3 and 4, which are recorded, downloaded and unlocked (if you've lost your CD) through some very old systems. That is a problem for our customer support and network support staff.  We would really prefer that you were using a more up to date version, so we are simply offering you one for free!

Which makes it sound like future installs would *probably* not be a problem.

FAQ's say:

How do I unlock/install Xara Xtreme 5?
Just run the download and follow the  prompts. You will be asked to register (best to use your existing account if you have one) and sent a serial number.  If you have any problems please visit our product installation and account queries troubleshooter for full step by step instructions.

I presume that means: will have to install-register before 29th (but that the serial works after that date for reinstall if necessary)

I care about file history because I'm hoping to have something like version control for DAW files.
Here's an interesting thread describing a product that goes in that direction:
https://news.ycombin....com/item?id=1642419

I'm not familiar with the world you're describing (music/daws) but I'll chance asking:
why not use a dedicated app?
You would presumably have more control. Filehamster (FH) is the only one I know that allows you add comments to the saved version. It's limited in ways, but it works. (I'd dearly love if they developed that whole aspect of FH but they show no interest.) I use FH for some jobs, and Syncovery (formerly SFFS) for the others (where I dont need comments). Snycovery is more dependable in my experience and may be able to do partial file backup which would save you a lot of space (sounds like that work can be big).

  • presumably it will work on x64 (Requirements: >Microsoft® Windows® XP | Vista® | 7 | 8)
  • download is called Xara_Xtreme_5_Silver.exe

Belated response :-[ -
yes, I see and acknowledge your points Stephen.
The video was great btw (the gratuitious use of unnecessary cushions was brilliant).
In retrospect I see I was mostly put off by your intro -
Vulgar?

As defined by who exactly?

Firstly...I don't even recall commenting on this thread o.0

1 came across as aggressive.
2 came off a bit like 'I dont care enough look at the post in question'.

That came across to me as not-respecting (and it still does - I realise it may not have been intended that way). My reading of that coloured the way I read the rest of the post. So I would say I over-reacted overall to the post in the end.
And one could even say that the whole episode is related to the topic too :-\ :P
