General Software Discussion / Re: What is your preferred font?
« Last post by Curt on October 02, 2009, 09:20 AM »
I really like a font called "Beyond Wonderland" for fancy work.  Google search should find it for you.
Very nice find!
It has distinct possibilities.
 Link: www.dafont.com/beyond-wonderland.font

Beyond Wonderland really is good looking. But because of the very low number of characters, I'd say the 'possibilities' are actual quite limited! Sorry!

QTTabbar has not been updated for 7, and might never be.

@sajman99 - both pictures were 1600x1200, and check on defect was checked.

One thing I forgot to tell is that the CPU usage was between 65 - 80 % all of the time. Quite high. Come to think of it, it COULD be even higher, as I have Task Manager Pro limiting any CPU usage above 80%

But still, as also Innuendo is implying, this really is a fine piece of software. Although the author could use some pedagogical help to make the GUI even more user-friendly/logic.

General Software Discussion / Any photo editor+viewer with notes?
« Last post by Curt on September 30, 2009, 04:07 AM »
The 'new' feature on many photo sites, like Flickr, is notes, somehow integrated with the photo. Not really integrated, but that is how it appears on the page, like on this collection of 'mine':

http://www.flickr.co...s/curt-dk/3884282440
notes.gif

When I look at the original picture on my desktop, I can't help wishing to have the same feature on my computer (because I can't remember all 37 car models). But I have never before taken any interest in this, so I don't know if there are any desktop editor+viewer with this feature, 'notes'.

Do you know if I somehow can have "create, point at, and read  NOTES" on my desktop images?
Edit:
the notes must be concentrated on areas of the picture, not on the entire pic' as one. Like the example.

Considering that this is freeware, it is almost fantastic good! My 7.810 pictures were scanned in 20 minutes, and the result included all SIMILAR images, not just exact copies. AND they were all commented with a surprisingly accurate percentage, telling how similar they were. Bravo! With this said, only 5 out of 25 pics were actually similar copies.

clickable thumbs:

This 'mistake' is very understandable:

- but I don't think these should have been listed as similar; "4.85 different":

Other than that, I am impressed.

I don't know what kind of job you have, Innuendo, but you should be working in the sales department :-)  You have made me really want to have Win 7, despite the fact that I apparently will have to say good-bye to my beloved True Launch Bar. And, like Tranglos, I really am addicted to this little wonder-app! Now, that is something!

One or two questions: Does Win 7 carry on with the "downloads" folder concept? ((Because if it does, then we really must have some program to make it a lot easier to open the folders that we move things to, after they have been downloaded and sorted out. Example: I just downloaded ReOpen from MilesAhead's site and, knowing it shouldn't be installed, I moved it (in a folder) to Program Files. But then I had to navigate to it and realized I already had forgotten the name (because I was thinking "MilesAhead" (obviously not!) instead of "ReOpen"). This is kind of silly, but must happen a lot to certain kinds of people, like me.)) Or does Win 7 have some kind of "Move Folder And Open It"?

- then Revo would be the best choice. This is also what I use myself. My previous talk was just to point out the easy Vista default options.

Revo:
"Options > Uninstaller > Enable fast loading mode"
+ "View > Details > Installation Date". Revo will remember this as your new default.
and a shortcut, preferably activated by a hotkey.

This combination will give you the answers in a second!

Edit: Revo is not yet officially updated for Win 7

Edit2: Revo will close by "Escape"

Found Deals and Discounts / Stickman & Elemento now $10
« Last post by Curt on September 28, 2009, 12:33 PM »
This is not a discount or a temporary deal, but a huge price drop, due to success! The former $59, then $29, "1-2-3 Cartoon Animation Software" Stickman & Elemento from cutoutpro.com is now merely $9.99!

http://www.cutoutpro.com/

The program is regularly updated, and fairly bug-free. By far the easiest animation program at all, and yet among the most capable  with bunches of tutorials if needed.

You already know Stickman, whether you recognize the name or not; the default figure is distinct. This video was made by an user 2 years ago, with version 4.8 (the present version is 5.2.41):

despre-tine.jpg http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=BHb5lKVF7Dk

This one is a year old: arkimedes.jpg http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=o1iayh6Dpz0

((This story is about the Norwegian girl Evreka, which does some experiments with the two laws of nature: 1. The cat Archimedes is always landing on his feet. 2. The bread slice is always landing up side down. What happens if these laws are combined?))

Stickman's new price is fantastic!

- you may be right about Vista, hhdawrs, I cannot remember if this option was part of XP. Edit: I believe the feature already was implemented in Win 2000.

What goes for listing the installed programs, in a hurry, see also:

- but some of the named programs have not been updated for Vista or 7.

I'm already registered at Ashampoo but the 'free' one wouldn't accept the same address so used a different one?

I don't think you have to use the same email address at Ashampoo's, but when you have registered the new version, I will say you should log in to your Ashampoo account and change 'the other' address which you gave when you first registered the new file, so you only have one (merged) account. I haven't tried this myself, so I am only assuming it will work.

Hmm... did this make sense?  :-[

That could happen if the "Launch folder windows in a separate process" option is checked under "Folder Options >> View"

- of course! I forgot about that option; Thanks for reminding me ;-)

When I first read about DupeTrasher, I swore not to try it! The reason is very simple and can be illustrated with a little screenshot from my True_Launchbar:

dup.gif

- and, yes, they are all fully licensed $hareware programs - edit except for the 'Nuker.

But why do I keep on purchasing this kind of programs? In fact, I didn't quite know the answer myself until I read patteo's post (Reply #18). What I am missing is speed (and ease) in the USE of the program (ANY program)! I acknowledge that DupeTrasher is a very fast scanner, but the examples given by patteo goes to show how to make the final result come out even faster yet.

Personally I have no idea how to write "genuine" command-line parameters, so I am bound to also ask for pre-written examples. As an example, if AsmDev is reading this and maybe even will try out the free Quizo QTTabbar with Vista's Explorer, then Vista+Quizo makes me able to add simple arguments like %f% and such (see next screenshot) to a shortcut to any program. I am however not convinced that these arguments are universal accepted.(?) At least, I think I have seen others use quite different arguments.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Free Comfort Keys Lite!

Ashraf: isn't Confort Keys Lite shareware?
From what I read on the page, it costs 19.99 or something like that.
Or is the "promotion page" a free version?

"LITE" = ComputerBild version. There is no difference, except maybe for updates? I haven't tried to check that option.

Comfort Keys Lite $ 19.95 (You save $19.85**)

** Comfort Keys Lite = Automation tool ($9.95) + Comfort On-Screen Keyboard Lite ($9.95) + Comfort Clipboard Lite ($9.95) + Comfort Typing Lite ($9.95) = $39.80

I used to have the PRO version, probably from giveawayoftheday, but back then I was running XP, and I liked WireKeys better (one can run both at the same time but the number of hotkey combinations gets overwhelming!). WireKeys was not updated for Vista, so I am pleased to now have the Comfort Keys Lite. Thanks, Ashraf!
