General Software Discussion / Re: FolderCache 6.1.4.1
« Last post by MilesAhead on November 14, 2011, 07:17 PM »
FolderCache 6.1.4.1 See included Readme for list of revisions.  But this last is just an updated icon.  It's a bit easier to see that the tray icon is a dollar sign when using white background and teal foreground.  Also changed dollar sign to "single bar" type. Just stands out a bit better in the tray.

General Software Discussion / Re: Comment Explorer 2.3.0.0
« Last post by MilesAhead on November 14, 2011, 02:10 PM »
There are 2 modes to the program, Folder and Global.  Folder uses the filename and extension with no path as the key to the comment. Global uses the entire path.  Folder creates a data file in every folder where you create a comment.  Global has one central data file in the same folder as CommentExplorer.exe.

If neither of the 2 modes reflect what you're asking then I don't see how I can do it.  In either mode it's a simple associative array.  String key fetches string comment.

I just found this tip. It's not an AddOn but a method to use your search plugins from the address bar like you can in chromium based browsers:

http://www.techairli...-omnibar-in-firefox/

For example you can add the keyword "scr" to the Scroogle plugin.  To do a search using scroogle from the address bar you would do
scr search term

Then you can pull the search box down until the next time you want to add plugins.

HalfShell 2.2.3.0 Reduced clipboard delay.  The response should be crisper now.

HalfShell 2.2.2.0 Extended the "nothing selected in folder" to 64 bit OS. If the active windows is an Explorer folder window, pressing Shift Enter hotkey will attempt to open it as a separate process using the Explorer in the SysWow64 folder... just in case 32 bit emulation is working for someone.

Edit: I changed the Use Tone option so that it fires independently of the Use Alternate Shell.  Since loading the explorer out of SysWow64 folder can be slow I thought it better to give feedback if the tone option is enabled.

If the tone option is enabled, and something should open to a folder, you hear the "ok" sound. If there's an error, you hear the "doink" sound.

HalfShell 2.2.0.0 For alternative shell, if the active window is a folder and nothing is selected, the alternative shell will be opened with that folder.

I know often I have a window open in Explorer but I'd like to open it quickly in FreeCommander to use the apps I have installed in the FreeCommander toolbar.  Now Shift-Enter does it.

You can use any alternative shell that takes folders to open on the command line. Another example is Q-Dir.

Edit: Also added an option to Tray Menu to play a system tone when using an Alternative Shell.  Some alternative shells may be slow loading. The tone gives an indication that the program got the hotkey.  Explorer is already in ram so the response seems instant by contrast.

Interesting archive link.  Thanks, I've bookmarked it.

It's weird how some of this stuff disappears so fast.

I found this page with a download link:

Download at your own risk!

http://forum.hippoed...c78c7be98fcb10c84d92

down the page you'll see a link to download KeyHH.exe 24 kb command line program.

It comes up clean scanned with Malwarebytes, but that may not mean anything.

I don't know why this thing is so hard to get.
4710
I found my old post.  The program was KeyHH.exe

Seems anyplace I try to download the browser just hangs or I get routed to some system cleaner utility download.  Really bizarre. I know I was using this when Vista came out.

Here's an old AutoIt3 post where someone was using it for AutoIt3 program help:

The only download page I found that wasn't blanked is c-net. So I have no more access than anyone else.

The only related download I found is this:

http://www.softpedia...r-Software-7607.html

4712
I found this one:

http://download.cnet...661.html?tag=mncol;1

I don't think it was the one I was looking for.  I saw a comment on another board that it's "shareware" that's gone out of development. The comment stated that it doesn't expire though. According to the sales copy it can read .hlp and htmlhelp 1.0 and 2.0.

I could get a download from that site.  But since I don't need it I haven't installed. I was just looking since someone was having problems getting WinHlp32.exe to work on Vista.  Drove me crazy I couldn't remember the other help reader. I could have sword it had a 'k' in the name somewhere.  But I can't find any download or the program on my system.

Oh well. If you try this one let me know if it works. If it's good I'll recommend to others before c-net pulls the download.
4713
Thanks for the reply.  But this was a few years ago when MS released Vista with no WinHlp32.exe on the machines.  I found some freeware that could display both the .hlp and .chm formats.  But I can't find a reference, bookmark, or download that rings a bell.

It's terrible when the memory acts up. :)
4714
I recommended a free help reader I found online a couple of years ago that could read both .hlp and .chm formats.  I can't recall the name of it though.

Anyone familiar with such a dual format help reader freeware?

http://www.lookinmypc.com/

The name suggests it's for newbs but it sure made a nice html table print-out of my services and their current state.

It's been a long time since I used it.  But I seem to remember the html report had an annoying side-bar with links that could be removed by a couple of small edits of the html file.  Probably a "<div>" section delete to have everything display as a simple table.

General Software Discussion / Re: PropPage 1.2
« Last post by MilesAhead on November 05, 2011, 10:08 PM »
PropPage 1.2 Changed the spacing a bit when Place Windows is enabled.  Property Dialogs don't like to be resized, unlike Explorer folders.  But at least they aren't all stacked in z order. :)

I reduced the delay times if there are only a few dialogs.  Helps to avoid the phenomenon where the Property Page opens, then jumps position after a second. A bit smoother now.

General Software Discussion / PropPage 1.2
« Last post by MilesAhead on November 05, 2011, 03:27 PM »
PropPage 1.1 is a Hotkey to open the Property Page for files or folders selected in Explorer.

You can specify the name of the Tab you wish to be in the foreground when the property page opens.  As example, you can use the Tray Menu to set the Tab Name to Sharing.  Select several folders in Explorer. Hit the hotkey.  The Property Page for each should be open with the Sharing Tab in the foreground.  If the Tab Name does not exist, the default opens.

Another command in the Tray Menu allows you to change the hotkey.

Also there's a "checked" option of Place Windows.  If not checked Windows usually opens the Property Pages stacked in the same spot so it appears there's only one open. If Place Windows is checked, PropPage will attempt to unstack the property page windows after displaying them.

Basically all the info you need for usage is in the About Box.
Also see the included Readme.

http://www.favessoft.com/hotkeys.html

I tried Alt Enter in Windows Seven and it seems if you have several files selected in Explorer, it only opens one Property Page.  Therefore it's conceivable PropPage may be generally useful(perhaps to open several folders share settings or whatever.) For this reason I've uploaded it to my site's Hotkeys Page.

See included Readme but all info needed for usage is displayed in About Box.
4721
I hacked together this little tray hotkey in case it comes in handy.  You can select one or more files in Explorer, then press Control F6 to display the Property Page for them all at once.  By default it tries to set the Tab to the Comment tab. You can change the tab it tries to open using the Tray Menu. If the tab specified doesn't exist there's no error. The default tab is displayed(usually General).

If you select several files give it a few seconds.  The property page dialogs will appear, then it will try to space them across the screen.  The Property dialogs may jump around a bit until it's done. :)

You can use the Tray Menu or edit the .ini file to change the hotkey.
Double click the Tray Icon to get an About Box.  That pretty much is all the usage info needed.

If you try to change the hotkey and there's an error, you'll get an error message, then it will try to go back to the previous hotkey. If that also fails, another error message then the program will quit since there's no way to use it until a valid hotkey is specified.  To revert to the defaults just delete the .ini file while the program is not running.

Here's a zip with the exe. Just unzip to and empty folder. Only thing it creates is PropPage.ini in the same folder as the exe.

@olamoree I found some code on AutoIt3 forum that can open a tab in the property page for a file.  Could you try it out?

You can download AutoIt3 here:
http://www.autoitscr...te/autoit/downloads/

What should happen is the Property Page for notepad.exe should be open to the Comment Tab when you run it.  That's all it does. You'll see a black round icon in the Task Tray. Just right click and click Exit to kill the test program. As soon as the program that opened the Property Page stops running, the Property Page will close.  That's why I plan to implement it as a hotkey sitting in the Tray.  if it works you can set it up to start with Windows.

If it works you can just select file(s) in Explorer and hit the hotkey. All the selected files should open Property Page to the Comment tab.  I tried the function on my Windows 7 machine and it seems to work ok.

If you don't have or wish to download AutoIt3 to run the test script let me know and I can compile it to exe.  That's no problem.

I just want to make sure it works for you before adding hotkey stuff.

Global Const $SHOP_PRINTERNAME=1    ; $sObjName = printer friendly name
Global Const $SHOP_FILEPATH=2       ; $sObjName = full pathname to file
Global Const $SHOP_VOLUMEGUID=4     ; $sObjName = Drive Path ("C:\") or Volume GUID ("\\?\Volume\{2eca078d-5cbc-43d3-aff8-7e8511f60d0e}\)")

$notepad = @WindowsDir & "\notepad.exe"
$tab = "Comment"

If Not _FILEPropertiesDialog($notepad,$tab) Then
MsgBox(0x1010,"","Open Property Page for Notepad Failed!")
EndIf

While 1
WEnd

Func _FILEPropertiesDialog($sObjName,$sPropPage="",$iObjType=0x02,$hWnd=0)
    Local $sPropPageType="ptr"
    If IsString($sPropPage) And $sPropPage<>"" Then
        $sPropPageType="wstr"
    Else
        $sPropPage=0
    EndIf
    Local $aRet=DllCall("shell32.dll","bool","SHObjectProperties","hwnd",$hWnd,"dword",$iObjType,"wstr",$sObjName,$sPropPageType,$sPropPage)
    If @error Then Return SetError(2,@error,False)
If Not $aRet[0] Then Return SetError(3,0,False)
    Return True
EndFunc

@olamoree I'm glad you like TipOff.  It's been awhile since I looked at the Property Page stuff.  It may help a bit that you can highlight a file, then press Alt-Enter to open Properties instead of having to right click the mouse.

I did have some code to open to the particular tab. I'm trying to find it to see if it's adaptable to a hotkey or some easier way to open that Properties Tab.

Edit: I found the code I was using but it doesn't really do much to make it worth running as a hotkey.  Alt-Enter instead of right click is best I can do for now.
4724
Why would I joke about being paid for my work?

Apparently all the COM wizards out there aren't very creative.  After all, they haven't thought creatively enough to implement such a simple thing in 13 years.

When you find one let me know. I may use it myself.
