Living Room / Re: PC Upgrade - still possible to reuse old components?

thanks for the clarifications.. i was reading another review & the reviewer mentioned about instability caused by lower voltage but apparently there is a BIOS fix. and this got me thinking, albeit in the wrong direction.. :)

One has 20 pins in the connector and the other 24 ;D

:) ok, since the ASRock AM2V890 has only 20-pins, do i have to be selective about the graphic card that i buy so that it is not under-powered?

if given a choice, i too would not be opting for some obscure chipsets but i'm hoping to get lucky on this one.. :) anyway, i'm also searching for ASRock mainboards with nVidia chipset..

btw, what is the difference between 20-pin & 24-pin ATX power connectors?

thanks for the pointers, Lashiec.. i don't quite understand what you mean by cable management.. i hope you can elaborate a bit. this pc will be mainly for word processing & casual surfing and other than that, i'm planning to install some educational software for my kindergarten-going son.. :)

thanks for the links.. with the memory issue is out of the way, the ASRock mainboard looks the better prospect.. now going to hunt if there is stock available.. :)

Darwin, from the user profile it can be seen that the dev was last active on June 15, 2006 and it has been some time since the website was been updated. maybe he lost interest over time, as the updates has been sporadic after churning out frequent updates in 2005.. just my 2¢.. :)

you're welcome, Wordzilla.. does this mean you won't be adding this feature to Zillarank? :-\

yes, the chipsets are a bit of concern for me too but there is always this unknown factor when it comes to budget boards. e.g. i googled and couldn't any find any reviews on the ECS board. if anyone can find one, let me know.. :)

also, one of the vendor told me that 2GB is the maximum i need since anything above 2GB won't be detected under WinXP. just how much of this true? and after changing the mainboard & the processor, can i boot up without re-installing & let Windows detect the new hardware?

just an update.. i have taken into account Carol's advice on future expansion, so i'm down to these two budget mainboards.. let's see, both are based on AM2 socket, 2 IDE slots (yeah!), DDR2 slots and obviously no SLI. some comments would be nice.. :)

P.S. i plan to add an nVidia gpu to go with it..

Oh... does in Maxthon, though (I think! Drat - forms, forms everywhere and not a single one to test this on... I'll have to go looking).
you can always try it on DC forum search, the quickest you can find.. :)

What's the purpose of submitting a form to open up as a new tab?
i'll re-quote my post from this thread.. ;)

... i'm not sure of the terms so i'll use a scenario: let's say, i'm reading a post and i want to to use the search feature. normally i'd go to the top of the page & type-in the keyword and click on the Search button. then a page is generated with the search results, i want this page to be in a new tab/window so that i can continue reading the post..

Yes! Love it. I'd love to see something like this brought into the IE sphere as well...
Darwin, why not just use Firefox? :P but seriously, i myself would like something such as this when i'm using other browsers such as K-Meleon & etc..

General Software Discussion / SubmitToTab - a Firefox add-on
« Last post by lanux128 on August 28, 2007, 12:31 AM »
SubmitToTab is an extension that adds an option to your context menu to submit an online form to a new tab or window. The context menu option only appears when you right-click on a submit button.

initially i had made a feature request for ZillaRank in this post and this is a Firefox-only solution.. ;)

no problems, mouser.. i'll post it in a while.. :)

thanks, mouser.. :) in case you're wondering why i didn't just use the extension instead, i'm on an extension diet since more extensions cause stability problems in Firefox (at least for me)..

that's why i was hoping to do the suggestion part and leave the implementation/coding part to Wordzilla.. ;) but the mention of plugins reminded me of this extension: SubmitToTab. :)
