USBDLM is very useful when it comes to the management of removable drives and it's quite popular here, just check out these threads..

how to give each USB stick a specific drive letter?
Fixed Drive Letters for Removable Drives
IDEA: automatic card reader drive letter assignment/removal

Very cool.  Thanks.

Living Room / Re: Any MiniDisc people out there?
« Last post by superboyac on May 06, 2009, 11:00 PM »
Yeah, I have had a MiniDisc for a while. Was frustrated with the recording quality until a SonoPak. MiniDisc recordings great now! Plus, it's really easy to carry anywhere and setup in any situation. I hope the MD format is around for a long time. And I'm definitely going to check out the HiMD! Thanks for the tip.
Do you work for SonoPak?

Awesome article! You really did your research. What do you think of the SonoPak?

http://www.sonopak.com

Been using these mics for a while with a MiniDisc, and they work well for me.
I've never tried that.  I used to have those mics that fit in the string that ties around your eyeglasses.  I just use a regular mic now.

XNView is a decent image viewer in general.  I like it.
4582
Is there a way to use your preferred video player (I use Zoom Player), but to ensure that the data is streamed properly?  In other words, how do we solve this problem of intermittent transmission or whatever it is that would cause playing video files to not work right?
4583
can you tell if the other main feature works? where LBC will find the right drive for a program to be launched?
yes, once the file gets loaded, everything else works properly.  I even go back in preferences and check the settings, which all have paths to whatever the original location was, but they all launch properly.
4584
I think the problem is that i didn't properly handle the mcf file loading when drive letters change -- let me see if i can fix it in the next day or two.
Cool.
4585
Can't you set the drive letter to be the same on all computers? Just use Disk Management to change the drive letter.

PITA I know - but that is Windows!

I'd rather not.  I don't want to do that on every computer.  It would be best if the program can take care of itself.
4586
I know you said it does it automatically, but I think part of the problem is that the drive letter changes in each computer, so LBC is looking to open the last open mcf file, which is on a different letter drive.  Sure, the stuff inside the mcf file retain all the relative drive settings, but that original mcf file is not being seen as relative.
4587
I'm getting the behavior above every time I switch computers.  I just brought the stick back to work and same thing.

it should be noted that both computers already have LBC running locally.  The USB version is only for launching usb programs.

Weird.  Not one screenshot on their website.  Get with the times, man!

You can manage this with USBSafelyRemove, they have a beta version at http://safelyremove.com/version-4-1.htm and I think they proposed a 1y free license from beta-testers (maybe non longer valid now).  Or the regular version.
I've liked this program and author for a while now.  I should probably get it.  i just never really used USB much before.

LaunchBar Commander / Bug: Portable LBC issues when switching machines
« Last post by superboyac on May 05, 2009, 11:05 PM »
I configured a toolbar at work today.  I took the USB home and launched LBC from the USB at home.  When I did that, the "Configure Now" dialog came up, so that was not right.  Then, when i went in to configure, the proper FILE <name> toolbar was showing, but there was no "+" next to it.  Meaning, the only thing in the tree was the FILE name.  So I closed it, reopened it with from the USB, and everything showed up there fine.

Anyway, switching computers seems to a little klunky, at least on this first try of mine.  It wasn't seamless.
4591
yes.
cool.  The reason I was wondering is because the icon path still shows the original path it came from.  Obviously, you've thought of everything.  I'll find something!

LaunchBar Commander / Are icons stored locally once entered into LBC?
« Last post by superboyac on May 05, 2009, 07:35 PM »
When I point to a location for an icon, is that icon then stored inside the launchbar file itself (embedded)?  I ask for the sake of portability.  If I find an icon on my hard drive that I want to use, do I have to physically move it to my USB and then specify it, or can I just pick it once and then it becomes permanently embedded in my launchbar?  It would be easier if there was an option to pick the file from anywhere and have it imported.
4593
what's going on, Marek?!  You're unleashing programs on us like rain!  Awesome!  How long has this been in the works?
4595
At work, whenever I put in a USB stick, the computer automatically assigns the USB the same letter as another networked drive.  Why does it do this?  Why doesn't it find another, unused letter?  I always have to disconnect the network drive to be able to see the USB.  And then, even after disconnecting, it reconnects after startup (which may not necessarily be a problem, just a way the network is setup).  How can I get the USB to be assigned to a different letter?
4596
That's ok, just a suggestion.  The timer will be cool, though!
4597
Awesome!  Recently, I spent a very long time searching for a simple stopwatch/timer and could find none.  Most of them were way too bloated and weird looking.  Very cool, thanks.

Feature requests:
Countdown timer:  Could you also include a countdown timer mode on it?

Show hundredths of seconds:  Can you show the hundredths of seconds...for precision timing.

Are you saying that LBC will automatically change all these letters according to whatever drive letter gets assigned to the USB?  So, I don't have to do any of the relative path "..\" business?

yes.  and if it doesnt work i will make it work.
you are amazing.

Regarding the Pico-C tight fit.  Yes, it is a pretty tight fit into the USB slots, but it's a good thing.  I've now used it on 5 different computers and the fit is really good.  It's so small, that the tight fit is important so it doesn't wobble in there.  But it's not so big where it's stretching the slot, as mentioned earlier.

launchbar commander will actual try to fixup drive letter if it changes.
i'm configuring this right now.  I'm entering the path on the usb for the "custom file explorer".  Are you saying that LBC will automatically change all these letters according to whatever drive letter gets assigned to the USB?  So, I don't have to do any of the relative path "..\" business?
