Found Deals and Discounts / AudialsOne on offer
« Last post by Curt on November 24, 2009, 12:04 PM »
AudialsOne is the kind of program I normally wouldn't look at twice, because the price seems a little too high for my early retired wallet: $65 or £35. But right now Avanquest.UK is running a campaign and is offering it for £20, (less than $40). They call it an upgrade (from radiotracker) offer, but as usual you don't need to have any previous version installed, in order to take the offer, which you only can get from the British office: http://www.avanquest..._EM_RT-AUD_1109_UPS1

AudialsOne 4
The Complete Digital Download Centre
    * Download unlimited music & video from the internet for free
    * Automatic recording of music from your favourite artists/tracks
    * Universal audio and video file conversion tools
    * Legally remove DRM protection on music and videos

AudialsOne will find, download, drm-remove, convert, and play from 30,000 internet radio stations, and it will even try to find any matching video files! Jingles or DJ voice-overs are automatically removed, and id3-tags, cover art, and lyrics are added to your collection, also automatically. You can also use the Editor to make changes manually. AudialsOne will save, drm-remove, convert and play any video your browser can play. Audio-books can also be drm freed. AudialsOne of course also handles pod-casts.

AudialsOne will work on Windows from XP and up, both 32 and 64 bits.

AudialsOne works around the clock to provide you with unlimited music & video downloaded straight to your PC. [...]

Audio:
# Automatic mass recordings of 80 genres from up to 100 stations
# Millisecond-accurate recordings cuts out all the unwanted talk
# Set the quality of recordings – restrict searches to complete songs in music shop quality
# Add ID3 tags, lyrics and album covers to your files
# Output in target format via on the fly file conversion (MP3, WMA, AAC, OGG, FLAC, WAV)
# Simultaneously record as many found songs / music videos as desired

Video:
# Record all the videos that can be viewed with your browser at the network layer
# Record RTMP-E videos via direct screenshots as well
# Supports all the significant video formats (WMV, MP4, AVI, H.264, 3GP)

I should have told from the beginning: You are all allowed to freely test SoftMaker 2010 Beta for the rest of the year! It doesn't replace any previous version. Go to http://www.softmaker.../ofw10betareg_en.htm and register.

My understanding is that the Ashampoo product can be updated by downloading the SoftMaker updaters, no?
I am no longer certain;

I might now remember that every time I noticed that SoftMaker Office had been updated, I would click the Ashampoo-licensed Softmaker Office "update" button and get the message from Ashampoo > you already have the newest <, and that this went on for years until I finally lost my patience and purchased a license for SoftMaker's SoftMaker...
Was this how it was? I think it was.

I am no longer certain; I shifted to SoftMaker only. Maybe the advert was misleading and I was too naive, but they said  Why not 'upgrade' to SoftMaker, or something. Anyway, I said some time ago that I am done with Ashampoo#, and this purchase was part of the abolition ;-)

Another option is to wait for Ashampoo's version as it is generally cheaper. The only difference, introduced with Office 2008, was the absence of Softmaker Basic from the Ashampoo version...

Quite right, Darwin. But later on, SoftMaker is continually updated, which Ashampoo is not.

... SoftMaker Office 2010 Beta, that is.  8)

Read the news-letter @ http://www.softmaker...ter/2009-11-19-e.htm
or http://www.softmaker.com/english/

if you pre-order SoftMaker Office 2010 before November 22, 2009, you can save between EUR 15 and 20 on the price.

My upgrade-price was €35 = $53. Americans and Canadians are merely to pay $35 (upgrade) or $50 (full) for 3 licenses. There is no "single-user" offer.

What's the Best? / Re: Video conversion: What's the best (freeware or shareware)?
« Last post by Curt on November 17, 2009, 09:36 AM »
I almost never convert video files, which is why I haven't said anything on this thread until now, but I convert several audio files each day. For this, Media Coder is by far the fastest and the best - "best", referring to both sound quality and working stability.

Only the home version is freeware, the Premium version is $300 $299, but they can do the same!! The only differences are:

If you are a cooperative user who needs serious use of the software for your business, we encourge you to purchase MediaCoder Premium. Comparing to the free version, it has following differences and features:

    * Un-interrupted large volume batch transcoding
    * No pop-up web pages
    * Higher priority response for bugfix
    * Custom splash screen
    * Technical assistance and support

One reason I am telling this is, that Media Coder also comes in a $300 $299 HD Video edition:

MediaCoder HDV (Hi-Definition Video) Edition

High-definition (HD) video refers to video system of higher resolution than standard-definition (SD) video, most commonly at display resolutions of 1280×720 (720p) or 1920×1080 (1080i or 1080p). High-definition image sources include terrestrial broadcast, direct broadcast satellite, digital cable, high definition disc (BD), internet downloads and the latest generation of video game consoles. MediaCoder HDV Edition is specially customized and configured for encoding hi-hefinition video contents to several industrial standard video formats like H.264, MPEG-2, MPEG-4.

Key Features:

    * Transcoding hi-definition video contents in most popular formats to H.264, MPEG-4 or MPEG-2 in TS and MOV container (can support more if customer requests)
    * 5.1-channel AAC and AC-3 audio encoding, supporting mixing 5.1-channel audio by individual waveform/PCM files
    * Batch processing capability (customized process flow according to customer request)
    * Real multi-threading design, optimized for multi-core processors (over 90% CPU utilization on quad-core)
    * Easy-to-use user interface
    * More suitable for enterprise/massive production use (no popup web pages, no Firefox dependency for advanced settings access)

General Software Discussion / Re: File Hound 3.08 released
« Last post by Curt on November 16, 2009, 11:39 AM »
I tried the File Hound, and was impressed with the speed and with the number of file types it would check. Well done!  :up:

But I couldn't figure out how to navigate to the proper folders, except for copy&pasting the path (I see Mouser also has mentioned this). However, I have my texts placed in various folders, and typing User\*.* simply won't do = 170.000 files. And if I merely check one folder at a time, other programs will do faster. So, my feature request is, for File Hound to be able to search a (plural) number of fav' folders only, please.
4587
I download several thousand audio files each month. Because of "Best of..", "The Very Best of..." I automatically gets a lot of duplicates. But these files have not yet been freed of DRM, so they are not yet placed in My Music, but in a special download folder. So one of my wishes for the program's navigator will be the option to Remember & Scan Favorite Folder other than My Music, please.

hmm... was this understandable?

Your questions were too difficult for me to answer.

General Software Discussion / Re: At last: MP3 Lossless!!!
« Last post by Curt on November 14, 2009, 04:30 AM »
yeah, I know, I didn't say it right. The idea of explaining it in English, was a bit overwhelming at the time. Sorry.

When I was younger there was no Internet. If I wanted to hear a new CD, I would go into a shop in an actual building and put on a giant pair of headphones, or take a seat in their "listening room", and listen to that music in high fidelity sound. At high volumes! Today I will have to go to a page on the Internet and listen to some tiny 22 kbps LOW fidelity sound stream. The same goes for the replacement of the BIG stereo gear in my living-room; the two four feet cabinets on the floor have been replaced by a couple of tiny speakers next to my monitor on the table. Quality has been sacrificed for comfort. No progress, in real life.

[... When MP3's lossy codec replacement comes along, and believe me sooner or later it will as progress is inevitable, ...

I haven't got the slightest idea what progress you are talking about! Is it the "progress" from 1411 kbps, to 320 kbps, to 64 kbps, to 22 kbps, or what??? In case you didn't notice, the quality has been constantly FALLING every year for twenty five years; there has been absolutely NO "progress"! Each and every manufactory is working at heir hardest to get lower quality, not higher.

 :-[

In case you cannot tell, I am not happy with the audiophile situation.   ;)

- yes, I really enjoyed to play with your layer-file.

However, there is something about the black that is not black ehh.. not right. This first one is genuine black, I think:

Black+Audi+A3.jpg

but this thumbnail Audi RS4 I believe to be photoshop-black:

audi-rs4-black-wallpapers_2445_1152x864.jpg

- and I believe this second one still is much more proper black than what we have accomplished? No "grey" areas! well, at least in an a more genuine black-looking way...

Ok, I took a crack at this too, in Paintshop Pro.
I have quite a few image editors, but have never really understood how to make any of them do their best.

- well, I said it myself, didn't I.
I have Paintshop X2 Pro, but was unable to do what App103 have done so well. Someday I really need to sit down and study that bloody manual!!
Any "easy" trick, April?

I guess he just purchased the car, instead. ;)

I have quite a few image editors, but have never really understood how to make any of them do their best. But to my surprise, PhotoFiltre Studio X Pro did a very nice job on this exercise. No painting at all, merely convert to grey-tones, and play with light and contrast - that's all (regarding the body work, obviously)!

I did not have the patience to fix the edges of the grill and the bonnet.

click thumbnail for 800x600:

[attachthumb=#1][/attachthumb]

Edited:
Apart from the edges, the most of the car is fine, I think. But the more I look at the front, the less I like it; that dirty grey/gray is too ugly and un-real. What would the proper trick be? Too many details already have been lost!

-

For the sake of backup, for rehearsal purposes, I have saved a copy of the original version:

General Software Discussion / Re: PDF's
« Last post by Curt on November 10, 2009, 05:14 PM »
I realize the thread is not about what desktop application one can use, but more about what application one can talk the company into purchasing a license for? In such case the target should more likely be a PROfessional bulk program like PdfCompressor, or such. But then he prices #begins# at $500 (for no more than a 1.000 files per month)! Additional PRO features include "creating a watched folder that PdfCompressor Professional (OCR) can monitor for new files to compress and OCR automatically." They have desktop versions for individual file handling, one at a time, without OCR for merely $200, and with OCR for $300, but they will not handle files over a 100 pages.

I am glad that you are happy with NoteZilla, April, and sad for you for the way it happened. It is so disappointing when a fine program gets destroyed by idiocy. Just like when DrmRemoval 3.90 a month or two ago was replaced by an entirely different program called DrmRemoval 3.92!! I can assure you, this was maybe one step forward, but two (or four!) steps backwards! And there was no "get old version".
