Living Room / Re: Knight to queen's bishop 3 - Snowden charged with espionage.

Okay, maybe I made a mistake -
maybe I should not have replied after you said:
Start a thread in the Basement to continue if you like.
- that was good advice :D

I would have thought though, that if you disagreed with the content of the article, that you could say that here. In this thread. All of this about the site - while I can very much relate to it, and find it nice and juicy - and sure, it gives us context - but it's irrelevant in terms of rebutting the content of the article.
What you're doing doesnt seem to me that different from someone looking at, say, a libertarian site, and saying - oh, look, they're libertarians - everything they say is dodgy biased propoganda.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Shadow Defender Giveaway Today only
« Last post by tomos on July 18, 2013, 05:19 AM »
Sounds good. [edit] according to FB page, the giveaway is now over [/edit]

From the website:
Shadow Defender is an easy-to-use security solution (for Windows operating systems) that protects your PC/laptop real environment against malicious activities and unwanted changes.

Shadow Defender can run your system in a virtual environment called 'Shadow Mode'. 'Shadow Mode' redirects each system change to a virtual environment with no change to your real environment. If you experience malicious activities and/or unwanted changes, perform a reboot to restore your system back to its original state, as if nothing happened.

With Shadow Defender, you have the flexibility to specify which files and folders are permanently saved to the real environment. This ensures important files and folders are kept after a reboot.

and on dc:
Actually, Shadow Defender is NOT a backup or an imaging tool : it's a software like Returnil or Microsoft Steady State : you can activate it, perform some tasks like installing and testing some software, driver update, etc.  At reboot, all changes are lost as if you never performed these tasks.  But if your HDD gets physically damaged, you will not be able to do anything without a real backup or image.

Random thoughts:

You may never fall asleep again in a train :o

"Tired commuters often rest their heads against windows. Suddenly a voice inside their head is talking to them. No one else can hear this message."
-
Can you imagine someone who's a bit mentally unstable leaning up against the window, hearing voices and flipping out...

It being Sky Deutschland, I presume by "trains" they mean Deutsche Bahn. It's not clear have they agreed to this (but it does sound like a done deal). I can imagine if it does happen, that the little transmitter will have to be well hidden, otherwise it will be a target of annoyed commuters, bored youth, and of course, anarchists.

^well, if someone coming from - we could call it "that point of view" -
if they think that:

1) a jury might aquit him
2) the public are alienated, and dubious about NSA, secrecy, government even

I dont see why I should disagree :)

Do I need to elaborate? Probably a bit. (I'll keep it short.)

lol no you dont ;D -
actually you've made a good and valid point - and one that I agree with.
But:
although the article is written from a conservative perspective, I dont think that affects the validity of it's content.

This is actually a useful infographic, but it's done with some humor, so I think perhaps it qualifies for this thread.

How to live/interact with an introvert:
 (see attachment in previous post)

that was an interesting viewpoint, and helpful advice.
I've actually used that approach fairly successfully when meeting independent-minded children - or cats, for the first time.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Fixed size window, in center of screen
« Last post by tomos on July 15, 2013, 03:00 PM »
There are programmes that do the following:
say you have 200 photos of a person, they will 'center' the eyes in the same place in each image. I think they also resize image so face is the same. It's *possible* that you could use one of these programmes for your needs.

but what are they called ... anyone?
I believe (dc member) Perry Mowbray used something like that for one of his recent videos (?)
I gotta head here so hopefully someone else can expand on that :)

I got batteries on ebay for two different olympus cameras - from 3 different suppliers/manufacturers over the years. My experiences have been good, but I havent gotten anything in a long while - so cannot recommend any supplier. I went sort of intuitively I guess, and avoided the very cheapest offers.

Today I'd probably do as mouser suggests - check the reviews.

I could capture the whole screen (2560 x 1600) but how would I edit it down to 1024 x 768 with the chosen spot dead center?

Most any batch resizer could do this for shots in a specific folder.
FastStone
http://faststone.org/FSResizerDetail.htm
or others.

I believe they wanted to crop to a particular part of the screen - *not* resize.

I'm not sure of the emphasis on the centre point - if it's always 1024x768 in the same location, any particular points - e.g. lop-left or bottom-right - are always going to stay in the same place.

It's hard to credit - hopefully if it's such a cockup, it will be (simply) repealed....

The internet cafe thing was mentioned/discussed a while back in a thread that was since moved to the basement (for other reasons) -

Customer stops stick-up at Ocala Internet cafe (Granddad Says Hell No!):
Superb. But then, a bit later, the narrator says that police have been trying to close down these Internet cafés because:
"...there's money there"
- or something.
What? That's some kind of reverse logic, right there.

You can add more sugar at the bottling stage, but depending on how much you've added blah blah blah, you could risk exploding bottles.

This has never happened to me, but during secondary fermentation (the 2 week period), you should store the bottles somewhere safe as they *could* explode in a "less-terrorist" but more messy kind of way.

I wonder - with say, 200gr sugar, would the initial fermentation period not need to be longer (in order to avoid the exploding bottles part)?
Or does the yeast die after a certain period without air? (i.e. after having being bottled)
To be on the safe side use heavier bottles (e.g. as you recommend, beer bottles intended for resuse).

Just got a couple of shots from a full screen youtube video without problem.
What were you trying to record?

This chair would still kill you in the (not very) long run. For this kind of money they should have built in a treadmill and a stationary bike at least...

it's impossible to say for definite from a photo, but it looks like the chair would push your head forward and down a lot.
Re health,
there is the option of learning to sit well without support (e.g. à la Gokhale with more further down the same thread).

Mind you, even with that, I've been doing anything lately rather than sit at a desk all day.

Thank you Tomos, I'm a total noob and probably did not paste the text properly!   :-[

no, that was some weird forum thing going on :) the bbc code used in forum posts occasionally reacts unexpectedly to some character combinations.

Re your query - have a look at this thread, in particular the last post:
taking screenshot WITHOUT saving to file

Re the main window opening after a screenshot - check out the icons on the auto-hide bar top of screen (there's one for post-capture options) - or right-click tray icon and click on "After capture" and select "hide main form"

not sure what's happening here (in two browsers - FF 22 & Opera 12) **
I see this:

Screenshot - 2013-07-09 , 22_08_52.png

but when I quote it, I get this:

I am having a difficult time finding this new feature "•[Feature] New options to customize the post-capture dialog to use it in faster one-key dismissal mode and with one key copy-to-clipboard action.
I really need the copy-to-clipboard functionality -- either by setting it up as the default capture output, or, some way to easily select it as the desired output after the capture occurs.
Right now I must have accidentally changed a setting because it's saving every capture to "Screenshots" folder even though I do not want it to, and I am not selecting "Save Image As", or "Save image and show", or "Save image but hide".  I am selecting "To clipboard: Image" and then clicking "X" to close the dialog.  Then another window appears with the image in it; but I don't want this window either and I don't know what I've done to make it pop up.  Then I go and delete where the image was saved on disk.
I tried searching the forum for "clipboard" trying to find clues about how to send the output to clipboard but can't see any.
If you could please explain where to find it and turn it on, or what steps to take to make it happen when doing a capture, I would be grateful.

Thanks.

so I'll post in case others have the same problem

** I had to add [nobbc][/nobbc] tags within the quote in order to display it - otherwise I just see:
