DC Member Programs and Projects / Re: MFCRecorder - Continued

What wraith said.

Also, saying about someone on DonationCoder that they "took the donations and split" sort of implies that they left after collecting a bunch of money.. The reality is that the total donations given to Asudem would probably be just enough to go to the dinner and movies.

Now that he's gone, and I've started to appreciate that music, I kick myself, and it makes me sad.
I know the feeling, that seems to be how it goes for many of us.. As Joni Mitchel said, "don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got 'till it's gone..."

There are only so many times you can hear They Call It Stormy Monday

Speaking of which, here's a fantastic version of Stormy Weather by John LaPorta and Charles Mingus:

Please try the latest official download, which is v1.35.
[BugFix] Fixed bug where -capsound arguement was ignored if -exit parameter was passed.
[MinorImprovement] Simplified help topics.
Also removed unnesc. dlls from portable zip.
4555
The CloseApp dlls are completely unusued in the portable version, they are only there to help the installer (I'll update the portable zip maker to ignore them).

The DcKeyHk.dll and DcMouseHk.dll are used ONLY when you invoke the -captureredregselect or -captureobjselect commands, which use a special "red box" overlay on the screen while you are still able to interactive with your desktop.  If you don't use those commands you don't need those dlls.

The best part is now that I'm going to these things as a player,

Cool!!!!

Tell her to take some video of the next jam and post it.

I've never heard of this problem before BUT I have heard of a similar problem with the last red countdown number staying on screen.  It sounds like it might be some unusual timing redraw bug with the graphics drivers that could be causing it but let me see if i can't go in and tweak something to prevent it.  stay tuned ill try to have something this weekend to try.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Ctrl+Z Undo doesn't work?
« Last post by mouser on July 29, 2016, 07:06 AM »
I think you have hit the nail on the head.  And it may be there are certain cases where the focus is on something that prevents it from triggering when one would like it to.

Just as an example, when you select the LINE tool, or indeed ANY existing LINE, a recent feature in SC is to automatically focus to the "End Label Text" box for the line tool.  That means that Ctrl+Z is not going to work for normal undo while it is there.  I wonder if that might be your issue.  I might be able to kludge a little workaround where if there is no undo buffer for the line text label, it would forward the Ctrl+Z to the main window.

As Ath suggests, the easy workaround for such cases is to click in the main editing window to restore focus there.

Ctrl+Z should work to undo in Screenshot Captor.  It does for me.

If you find it doesn't, can you try choosing UNDO from the Edit menu and see if that works?

It may be that there is a bug that makes SC not see the Ctrl+Z in some cases -- if you find that to be true for you and you can figure out in what cases it doesn't respond to Ctrl+Z (but it does respond to choosing Undo from the Edit menu), please let me know!

And here is a photo of my dearest departed Saffron, who lived with me for 18 years and died about 2 years ago.  They look very similar except for their eyes:

Her name is Sara, though I have lately been calling her by the nickname of "hotshot".

In the month and a half since I took those initial photos she has grown a ton bigger and looks quite different now:

TapTap / Re: CTRL-C shortcut not recognized in Win7-Explorer
« Last post by mouser on July 28, 2016, 09:54 AM »
Oops, sorry I missed all this.

I rarely hear about anyone using TapTap.. I'm trying to think why it wouldn't work in those applications.
TapTap is C++ built with Visual Studio.  I could share the source code..

If it's a 64bit problem, I could probably make a 64bit build to test.

Well, the D programming language was done in this spirit.  There is a good book or two on it.  I never thought it would survive but it has.  Still didn't feel "perfect" to me.

I kinda wish for

Exactly.  The coders that have been working to create the new versions of C++ are doing some extremely cool work in an area of language design that is mostly ignored in these days of interpreted code -- given the coder the ability to have true control over creating high performance compiled code.  But they are operating under the excruciating burden of having to be backwards compatible with a lot of gunk, and the need to work around the syntax/keywords of a very old language.  The result is often ugly and unpleasant.

What we need is a new language, inspired by C++ and taking the lessons learned from these new C++ versions, but free from the historical burdens.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Feature suggestion - Support Unicode for text box?
« Last post by mouser on July 25, 2016, 01:16 PM »
It's definitely an appropriate suggestion -- you aren't the only one to request it.

It is on my todo list and will be added eventually, but I don't have a timeframe for it.

Note: There is an inconvenient workaround available if you only very rarely need to add unicode text boxes, by using Unicode Image Maker addon tool which incorporates into the clipart toolbar of Screenshot Captor.

you can use -exit to make it exit automatically, though i suppose i could enable that whenever it sees -stderr flag.

i'll check the capsound argument.

What tomos said -- also make sure you EXIT the program before you try to delete (you may see it's icon in the bottom right system tray, right-click to see menu to exit; or use ctrl+alt+delete to bring up list of running processes and stop it from there).

Dog's heroic action saves 79-year-old owner's life
http://wjla.com/news...og-saves-owners-life

Screenshot - 7_24_2016 , 8_32_06 AM.png

A Pennsylvania dog proved his ultimate loyalty on Thursday after his owner was injured while hiking.

The four legged hero named "Guy" led rescuers to his 79-year-old owner who fell and hit his head while hiking in the woods.

The dog reportedly ran up the bank where the rescuers were, and would stop every 20-30 feet, barking until he led them to where the elder man was lying.

Rescuers say the man had been in the woods for more than 12 hours when they found him.

"It was like watching an episode of 'Lassie,'" says emergency responder, Matthew Mariscano.

Codenames is a GREAT GREAT ingenious game.  Super easy to teach, playable with family, friends, etc.  Women really like it.  (not great for very young kids).
Highly recommended.

ps.
They are coming out with a new spin-off called Codenames: Pictures that uses pictures instead of words, but the consensus seems to be that the original is better seems like some people prefer the original and some prefer pictures.

Please try downloading the newly uploaded v1.34 from the download page and see the documentation on two new commandline options:

-stderr
If the parameter is passed, all errors will be sent to stderr stream instead of being displayed using messageboxes on screen.
-cursor
Includes the mouse cursor when capturing an image
