Not sure if this would help but it may be worth an experiment. My program UrlPack lets you save a pack of Url shortcuts to launch via a hotkey. The idea is to set the browser to open with a blank page and set it to open new pages in new tabs.  When you hit the hotkey it will open the default browser via command line with each Url. The program lets you set the first and subsequent delay times.

If you don't wish to use the default browser, with supported browsers(of which FF should be one) if you open the browser, then make it the active window, then hit the hotkey, the pack of Urls is opened with it.

http://www.favessoft.com/hotkeys.html

If you want to try it I would try just using one shortcut until you see if it has any positive effect. The upside should be that your browser is up and loaded and should be usable even if you have an autologon lag.  The down side is there's one pack made by default. For more than one set you'd have to add some other kludge to shift the shortcuts in the folder.

I haven't done much in this area. But it's my impression the application that owns the window under the mouse can capture the mouse and control the cursor. You may find it simpler to substitute custom cursors for the standard Windows ones.

Something like this may work:

I remember there was a long series of Chromium builds that gave the twirling yellow flag.  Once I installed LastPass 1.90.3 for chrome, it happened only on occasion. I notice FF hasn't been updated past 1.90.  Maybe they found a fix for Chrome that doesn't apply to FF?

I just tried a new snap shot yesterday. So far so good. I seem to get the yellow flag about 1 out of 3 snap shots now instead of nearly every one as before.

I use Chromium snap shots:
http://commondatasto...index.html?path=Win/

I use the Win32 zip files, not the mini installer.  Also I back up the current Chromium local data and executable folders before overwriting in case I need to back it off. The snap shots are surprisingly stable.  Now and then I got that LastPass Yellow Flag.  But updating to latest LastPass for Chrome along with trying snap shots until I didn't get the yellow flag seems to have done the trick.

For privacy in Chromium there's an "about:flags" option "Disable hyperlink auditing" that supposedly prevents the tracking ping from being sent.  Also Chromium doesn't have the unique ID thing that Chrome does.

Chromium doesn't have as many extensions as FireFox but I find I don't need as many.  Also some I install but only enable manually to use, then disable again, such as bookmark sorting, dead link removal etc..

I set Chromium to load with an empty page, then have my Speed-dial2 open when I hit the Home Button or New Tab.  That way it loads quickly even if the HD is busy at launch.

I use FF as my secondary browser. Opera I use only occasionally.  Anything IE based including MaxThon, I don't use at all. I have no need to run web based ActiveX Controls or BHOs.

The nice thing about trying Chromium from zip is if I get a buggy one I copy back my local user data and exe folder backups, and the bug is gone. If you dabble across major version numbers it's a good idea to keep a backup for each Chromium version so that you don't get an error about config from a newer version if you back off.  But it doesn't take that much space. Now I only save v. 18.x and 19.x Chromium. I've been running the 18.x snap shots long enough to know I'm not going back to 17.x or earlier. A few hundred MB of backup is all I need.

General Software Discussion / Re: Delayed Cuts 1.1.0.1
« Last post by MilesAhead on February 21, 2012, 07:50 PM »
Delayed Cuts 1.1.0.1 When dropping shortcuts on ListView the suggested delay takes the current maximum(if any) into account. Basically if it's the first, 10 seconds is suggested. Otherwise 10 seconds is added to the current maximum.

This makes it possible to drag several shortcuts and just hit Enter for each to accept the suggested delays.

Also I would like to use Zero Zipper on other peoples computers and would not be comfortable changing their temp file location folder.

When you set an environment variable on the command line, that only lasts until you close the prompt.  Try it yourself. Open a command prompt. Type
set temp=c:\temp

then type
echo %temp%

Then exit the command prompt. Open another command prompt and type
echo %temp%

It should show the original temp directory, not c:\temp.

I just did it on Windows 7 and it still works as expected.

Delayed Cuts 1.1.0.0 Added Skip Next Load to DelayedLoad Tray Menu. If skip is used, the elapsed time will be updated to the delay of the item that was skipped, then the next items, if there are any remaining, will be processed.

Delayed Cuts 1.0.0.8 Made several improvements. In the ListView now you can click on the Delay column for an entry and press F2 to edit the delay.  Also ini file has options to move the Toast Splash display away from the System Tray in case another program is using it at the same time.  See DelayedCuts About Dialog for settings.

General Software Discussion / Delayed Cuts 1.3.2.1
« Last post by MilesAhead on February 10, 2012, 08:06 PM »
Delayed Cuts 1.3.2.1 Delayed Cuts is a simple ListView utility for creating a list of shortcuts to be run delayed at logon.  Shortcuts are added via drag and drop.  The delay range is 10 to 600 seconds. All delays are timed from the launch of DelayedLoad.exe which runs the shortcuts. When you create a list, a shortcut to DelayedLoad is created in the StartUp Folder if it doesn't already exist.

I designed this utility to only accept shortcuts because that ensures you may pass all needed information to the launching program, such as command line arguments, working directory, start minimized etc..

The shortcuts are simply launched in a loop using ShellExecute() system call.

By default the "Toast" splash screen slides up near the system tray to show a countdown, icon and shortcut name next in line to load.  The Toast feature is enabled by default.  It may be disabled via .ini file option. UseToast=True or UseToast=1 enables.  Any other value disables it.  If Toast is disabled, the info is shown in the Tray Icon Tooltip during mouse hover.

DelayedLoad.ini is created in the same folder as DelayedLoad.exe the first time DelayedLoad closes.

One advantage to delay loading via an app that has a visible Tray Icon, you can cancel the loading of the remaining programs just by quitting DelayedLoad via the tray icon menu.

I've been using 1.2.1 without any problem on Windows 7 32 bit. Seems like any version after that if I try to Add To PlayTime using the context menu or even drag and drop onto an open PlayTime Window, the entry never appears and I get the spinning circle mouse cursor. Only way to get rid of busy cursor is to kill PlayTime from the task manager.

1.2.1 does what I need fine. Just thought I'd let you know since I just tried the new Feb release. I even tried last Ansi only version 1.2.2 and got the same thing. Seems like it likes 1.2.1 and nothing later.

Nice find!  Thank you - I'll give it a try!

I used it for awhile. Very stable. Only reason I don't still use it is I have my own tools where I can click and move stuff. It's a nice utility though.

I found this utility as I was looking for a way to define Windows for certain programs to be placed on a specific screen and a specific size.  This looks like it *ALMOST* fits the bill.  Which leads to this suggestion: I'd like to be able to define certain programs to automatically go to a certain grid location - doable?

WinSize2 may do what you want. But you have to position the windows manually, then press a hotkey to memorize size and position. The first time that window opens with WinSize2 running, it will move and size it if needed.

Not at all. I write these for my own use. If others like to use them it makes it more fun to do them.  W7 does have some features that obviate the need for some of my utilities. But I use 3 flavors of Windows and i like to have utilities that work the same on all 3.

Also I learn from getting them to work. There are free "folder near the mouse" utilities I could download. But I wanted to get one to work myself using AHK.  :)

Now that's pointless.

So is this conversation. If you don't want to use my programs, don't download them.

The desktop is one click away.

Then use the desktop. I don't keep shortcuts on mine.

Quotidian Folders 1.1.0.0 Now folders are staggered after opening.

I use 1280x1024 resolution.  The x and y stagger delta changes when > 9 folders are opened.  But the source is included if you wish to tune it to your monitor. If you have a multi-monitor setup you may wish to change the code that uses _GetDesktopWorkArea() to use other APIs that take multiple monitors into account.

Quotidian Folders 1.0.3.3 Resized ListView and font a bit so that clicking the vertical scroll arrow moves the row by the correct height.  Row text no longer appears chopped.
