T-Clock / Re: T-Clock 2010 (download)
« Last post by Stoic Joker on March 06, 2011, 02:31 PM »
Hi, just installed it in Windows 7 and it looks really excellent.

If you are open to suggestions,
Glad you're enjoying it, and most of T-Clocks coolest features started as suggestions.

a. option for a comma after the date would be good
If I understand you correctly, that is already covered in the Custom Format string options. You can basically put anything you want in the string. I use:
h:nn:ss - dddd\nmmmm d, yyyy

Which displays as:
3:13:07 - Sunday
  March 6, 2011

b. option for an "A" and "P" in addition to "AM", "PM" for 12-hour mode would also be good  (make width narrower)

Sounds reasonable enough, I'll see about tossing it in.

c. if time < 10 (1 to 9) in 12-hour mode, do not show the leading zero; do show it in 24 mode, as in 0455; colon not needed in 24 mode--also shortens the width.

Took me a bit to figure this one out, but yes the default strings for 12/24 hour modes probably aren't as ideal as they once were. But if you enable the Custom format string option on the Time Format tab of T-Clock properties you can modify it to make the clock do just about anything you can think of.

Not critical; just ideas (nice ones if I do say so myself..... :) )

Indeed, and I appreciate your taking the time to share them. :)

Do you have a donation link somewhere?

Yes, two options exist, and either is fine. The donations system on the board here being the first, and there is a PayPal link (bottom left) on the main page of my web site (www.StoicJoker.com).

Thank you,

Guess I'm the only one using VirtualPC, *Shrug* - It works fine for me -  But I mainly do network & software testing with about 20 different (Windows and Linux) OS. So I couldn't care less about the USB issue.

I also have 2 servers virtualized via Virtual Server, but their track record has been a bit suspect (could just be power issues, could be VS issues... ). :-\
4503
I've got an app to release for the 8th.

Alternate line of thought:

Actually the problem with sites like CNet is the whole thing is a download page. But if you are planning something fairly small (e.g. less than a bazillion downloads) You could just route folks to a single download page that had a list of straight links and an ad or two displayed on said (single collective DL) page ... The end result should actually be about the same (display rate wise).
4505
What about an unbuffered (allowing it to run in "spurts") server side script? Download "link" connects to page that displays Ad for X seconds, and then redirects directly to target file.

Hm... No.

USB was created to allow the average user to daisy-chain over 100 devices into a single port allowing them to all malfunction simultaneously.
4507
I hear ya man.

But iFrames are just such a kludge I tend to avoid them reflexively. Is there anyway of doing plain links with an ad? Download page with a banner type of affair perhaps? That way the ad shows even if they don't "commit", and if they do commit, they aren't bothered.

Just a thought - I like have your cake and eat it too type solutions.  :D

But seriously... There's no end to just how surprisingly stupid some people can be. The only truly sad thing is that there are other idiots out there trying to keep them in the gene pool~!

That's why I tossed in the second part as a qualifier... ;)

I saw the real-time hack that Anonymous did during the WBC interview and almost pissed myself laughing ... That was truly a beautiful thing to watch (hatred fall down go boom (hehehe)).

Yes... There is a specific reason... "Freedom factories" (ads).
Gee Wizz, when you put it that way shoving my pecker in a meat grinder sounds like a swell idea...

...But if it must be done, as worstje said an ordinary meta refresh (not the script encrusted looping nightmare variety) would be the lessor evil.

You can bet your ass there is a lawyer behind it. Because (in reality) nobody is really that dumb ... But if the obvious can be muddied a bit in court...

Anybody dense enough to actually be confused by those instructions, would probably best serve the human race as a Darwin Award recipient.

So, in future, I'll go for a few bottles of each beverage. That should fix it!

I'm considering whether I should just use Google's protobuf, but on the other hand one of the main selling points of fSekrit is compact size.
Stay with C++ - Small and fast is (worth it) good! - Misery loves company...

so now she's officially "Cathy Cen Yu Wuestefeld".

Hay, now that's clever!

combined with the usual 'if it does not download in a moment, use this link' thing.
Is there a specific reason for not just starting with a plain link in the first place? This has always drove me nutz, because I'm forever having to hit the "This Link" link while wondering why the hell they didn't just start with something that works. ...Fixing things with damage perhaps?

Given the tendency of search engines to shred a site looking for your particular set of key words, I doubt I ever hit the main page of a site more than 10% of the time.

We'll never get people to stop ticking boxes, mashing buttons, and clicking through hyperlinks with that attitude.

Is mousing around still OK?
That...Depends on who you're with...

Everytime I save, create files or folders it is created with "administrators" owner.

(...Create the file) Where? If it is in your My Documents folder then that could be a bit odd. On the other hand, if it's on the root of C: then that (ain't just yours...) would track with letting other/all administrators have full access/control of it.

Let's see app, how much can you sell a Toyota Camry 2000 in 2010, same config?
-lotusrootstarch (March 03, 2011, 04:02 AM)

Who cares? They're disposable crap cars. Now what would a completely original 65 Mustang fastback, 53 Corvette split window, or a 57 Chevy sell for these days?!? (hehe)

Some "Classics" actually do stand the test of time. Because (they actually have substance) their value isn't based on their scrap weight. We're not exactly trying to compete with the fashion tragic FaceBook crowd here now are we?

This grandstanding carrot-on-a-stick game is childish. If you really have so many grand ideas, then share a few. So they can be viewed on their own merit. Nobody really saw a problem with the Conestoga wagon trains...until they saw the new trains being pulled by a steam locomotive. Show us that kind of leap (which you purport to have - If you are only bowed to...).

...Then (and only then), if the idea is shot down, you will have fair reason to bitch (IMO).

I'm curious about one thing in the original post - what's the problem with "mass nouns"?

It's a matter of proper jargon and using the correct term. It would be like calling a hard drive a "stiff drive".

Okay, I did have to google the term to find out what it was ... But that don't sound like it:

For example, the same set of chairs can be referred to as "seven chairs" and as "furniture"; though both chair and furniture are referring to the same thing, the former is a count noun and the latter a mass noun.
-short answer

...Either way I have heard the news folk screw it up.

Ouch you guys really have no idea... 'nuff said. best of luck. cheers.

Which is both true and precisely the point everyone has been trying to make. We have no idea what is actually on your mind...because you won't just say it. You've made your stand, and drawn a crowd, but only fain at substantive "solutions".

If you truly have an idea, simply say "...and here's my idea [insert idea]". Playing this AA style first-you-must-admit-there's-a-problem game isn't really helping anyone ... Now is it?
