General Software Discussion / Re: WYFCA?

I'm using quite often RTFM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rtfm), but people seldom care... Because of PICNIC!  ;)

One more nice theme available for free and without any patch needed:

Zune (http://go.microsoft....fwlink/?LinkID=75078 or http://microsoft-zun...heme.en.softonic.com)

Enjoy!

General Software Discussion / Re: Can I uninstall .NET Framework 1.1 and 2.0 ??
« Last post by yksyks on August 03, 2007, 03:09 AM »
I'd also prefer uninstalling .NET 1.1, but I don't dare to... The reason is that the latest update completely blocks hibernation support on WinXP. This is vital for UPS to work correctly.

To this topic and solution see for example http://www.pcreview....thread.php?t=3157999.

I'm using FlashFolder for similar purpose (http://www.zett42.de/flashfolder), it simply does what it's supposed to. I like its bar more than extra buttons on the dialogs.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Farr configuration decision: what's your opinion?

I vote for non-selected text, too. Typing the End key might be boring, while pressing Esc when you're about to start something over is logical and easier.

I know I'm late with my contribution to this discussion, but nobody mentioned in this thread the famous Flurry (http://www.maddogsw.com/flurry/). Runs on dual monitor setup as well. Simple and nice.

I second all this. Regardless of how the interface is attractive, the functionality is what counts. Besides, I'm quite happy with Windows UI design, as far as I'm concerned, no need for skinning. I prefer consistent look of the applications.

Having written this I have just one comment to FARR interface, though. Somebody mentioned this already I suppose, but I'm strongly missing the Cleartype in both FARR results windows and its options. (It appears only on Options menu bar.) Could that be fixed?

Thanks a lot for all your invaluable work!

Edit: changing the fonts to some TrueType/OpenType fixes this in most places, so just the columns headings and Options dialog remain. Shouldn't the system default font be used here? That would be enough.

Just tried to play both annoying sounds from the program to my tomcat, but to no avail. During the first one (harmonica) he continued washing himself. On the second one (hiss) he slightly moved his ears. -- No way.

Nice idea, though!

General Software Discussion / Re: My favorite software! What's yours?

Curt, the file is on its way now. Enjoy and let us know the results. I don't believe it's caused by the new version, though. But one never knows...

Anyone else with similar problems? Not even the Adobe Speed Launcher link?

Curt, what problem with Startup Delayer? I've just updated and there was just one issue with the "Adobe Speed Launcher" link, but exactly the same I experienced with the previous build. Otherwise the update is quite nice (the customizable colors and especially the buttons in advanced mode that don't change theirs location anymore).

The mentioned link file is quite cryptic to me, if anybody wants to analyze it, I can send both the modified (non-functional) and original (restored from backup) versions to analyze. If anyone else comes across this issue--the solution is to restore the link (it's in the Startup group of All Users) from some backup and it works again.

Anyway, if you want the previous build of Startup Delayer, I can post it somewhere for you.

General Software Discussion / Re: EMDB: Eric's Movie Database

I'm using Ant Movie Catalog (http://www.antp.be/software/moviecatalog), which is more configurable and scriptable. Maybe it's not as easy to use, but it's capable of gathering movie info from different databases, not just IMDb.

I can confirm this double Alt-Tab issue, however, when using SmartTab (http://www.smarttab.org), this doesn't occur.

Let me add some apps I consider indispensable, even addictive:

ZTreeWin http://www.ztree.com -- for us keyboard maniacs there's no faster way to manage files and folders, but I agree this one is not for everyone. This is the only shareware item, the rest is freeware:

FARR -- no need to explain, but consider stopping displaying all the desktop icons--and voila!--it's as if you have a new PC, thanks!

TapTap -- thanks again!

Ditto -- already mentioned

The following items were not listed here (I think) and as far as I know just a few people knows about them:

QT TabBar http://quizo.at.info...reeware/indexEn.html -- tabs in Windows Explorer and much more

QT Address Bar -- the same page as above -- adds breadcrumbs to WinExp

Startup Delayer http://www.r2.com.au...&show=startdelay -- lets you specify the order and delay of apps running at startup--gives you unprecedented stability of the system, I was hunting for something like this for years

Hotkeyz http://www.skynergy.com/hotkeyz.html -- create hotkey for virtually anything, including text pasting and macros, again, invaluable for keyboard maniacs

Enjoy!

Gosh! I almost forgot my absolute favorite of all, which also supports live search: ZTreeWin (http://www.ztree.com/).
466
And one more quite interesting application:

HandyFind (http://www.handykeys.com/)

Enjoy!
467
Some more apps with this feature I'm using on a daily basis:

- Copernic Desktop Search http://www.copernic....search/download.html

- MediaMonkey (music files catalog) http://www.mediamonkey.com/

- Ditto (clipboard storage/organizer) http://ditto-cp.sourceforge.net/

- Add-ons for searching in IE7:

All of these are freeware. Be aware, they're addictive and it's hard to cope without them... ;)

ProcessTamer / Re: Taming disk accesses
« Last post by yksyks on January 08, 2007, 04:04 AM »
Another vote for taming the disk access. It would be really helpful for applications dealing with video files, for example. Usually I don't care how long it takes to finish, but I'd like to be able work in the meantime effectively. And despite the application itself consumes, say, 8 % of CPU; the PC is quite stuck due to the heavy disk access.
