N.A.N.Y. 2018 / Re: NANY 2018 Release: Dualcopy
« Last post by skwire on December 29, 2017, 03:20 PM »
What copy app you use? Or just use plain and simple windows copy?
I strongly recommend Teracopy.

My main file manager is Altap Salamander so I use the built-in move/copy manager it has.  I very rarely use regular Windows Explorer.

Anyone try this?

I think it looks great, but I use neither Teracopy nor Fastcopy, so I can't test this out.

Here's the initial release. Unless somebody comes up with a better name, it's currently called WHAT (Window Hotkey Activator Tool).  Here's a couple of screenshots:

main.png

options.png

Notes:
  • The matching comprises the following criteria: process name, window title, and window class.  You will almost certainly have to play around a bit with the text to get certain windows to activate and, even then, some may not.  Furthermore, you do not need to use all three criterion for a given hotkey.  Don't be afraid to experiment.
  • While the add/edit hotkey dialog is open, all hotkeys are disabled.  They are enabled after you click the save button or close the add/edit hotkey dialog.
  • Checkboxes in the main list enable and disable individual hotkeys.
  • You can assign the same hotkey to multiple entries and it will activate all the windows in top-down order.  You can easily change the order in the list.
  • Check out the Options menu for a few usability options.
  • The hotkey selection GUI is such that you can use just about any combination of keys, mouse buttons, and modifiers.  Go crazy.

Once we get closer to the turn of the year, I'll add this to the 2018 NANY page.

I can easily do this one.

Sounds like irfanview would fit the bill too, though i dont know about the renaming part.

In IrfanView, press F2 to rename the displayed image.

Skwire Empire / Re: Release: sWeather (tray-based weather app)
« Last post by skwire on November 23, 2017, 02:26 PM »
1)  Is it correct that Yahoo! only updates the weather in the data that feeds this utility once every hour?

Yes.  Some locations, it's once every two hours.   >:(

b)  I would love it if there was the ability to make this program fill the entire screen, with all the texts/fonts/little icon graphics resizing dynamically as you increase its size, or, simply making a "full screen option" where the exact same data fills the screen, just much, much larger so that you can see it from far away, across the whole room.

c)  Would this be a difficult feature to add?  It's so, so very clean and simple.  Making this fill the screen would be amazing!

Yes, it would require quite a bit of code to do that plus the icons and such would not scale well at all.  It might be easier to find another weather app that is more geared toward full-screen usage.  Ghacks had an article a while back with a few that might fit the bill for you.

https://www.ghacks.n...rograms-for-windows/

Weather Channel Desktop and YoWindow, in particular.

I much prefer the old quoting boxes.  These new ones look garish and out of place.

Nicely done, PPLandry.    :D

FWIW, I'm not sure it's even possible to determine which application causes a mouse cursor to change to the hourglass.  I don't think there are any such Windows messages but please correct me if I'm wrong.

You might have better luck asking yourself some questions.  Did your computer just start doing this?  If so, have you installed anything recently?  You mention Explorer...perhaps a new shell extension or something?

Finished Programs / Re: FINISHED: Reopen file after Wifi reconnects
« Last post by skwire on November 14, 2017, 10:33 PM »
Hi, wysiwyg125, and welcome to the DonationCoder site.

Here's the problem: The dashboard computer is connected to the network via Wifi, and for whatever reason it sometimes disconnects for a short time. When this happens and the Excel file tries to refresh, it pops up with this error box, because the source file is not available. Even if the Wifi reconnects, Excel apparently "pauses" and will not refresh until I dismiss the error box:

As an FYI, wysiwyg125 joined the IRC chat and, as a very simple attempt at a solution, I suggested trying out the old PTFB (Push the Freakin' Button) program to automatically close the message box.  http://www.majorgeek...freakin_button).html  If that doesn't work, we can try coding up something more custom.

Living Room / Re: For those with a CrashPlan...
« Last post by skwire on November 12, 2017, 09:42 AM »
I just stayed with Crashplan on one PC (my server).

As before, each PC in my house still does image backups nightly to the server (using Veeam).  I wrote some quick scripts to dump certain folders on each PC to the appropriate family member's user folder on the server (which Crashplan then backs up to its cloud).  Plus, my previous Crashplan subscription goes until April and then I get the next year at 75% off ($2.50/month).  After that, the one server will cost me $10/month ($120/year) which is $30 less than I was paying for the old family plan.  Not quite as convenient, sure, but it'll do just fine.  And, yes, that $10/month is for unlimited storage space.

Fun read.  Man, I'd be sick if I had lost $30k+.

I have 10 files name file 1.txt, file 2. text, file 3.txt,.... (one click batch process) and have them each go to folders named 'file 1', 'file 2', 'file 3', etc...

Sounds like a job for my File Punter app:  http://skwire.dcmemb...fp/?page=file-punter

Post New Requests Here / Re: Needing a utility to search multiple programs at once
« Last post by skwire on October 20, 2017, 04:04 PM »
I highly doubt you will EVER see something like this and it has to do with one thing -- the fact that most of the desktop programs you're going to want this for store their data in their own binary format database files.  In other words, unless said programs offer some sort of open query API, and hardly any of them do, you cannot get at the data.  If you cannot get at the data, you cannot search it.

It does not affect drag drop of files that I have noticed.

You might have to create your own shortcut to sWeather.exe and manually move it to your Startup folder.

Hi, please forgive the noobness.  In looking for a new tray app, I found some recommendations for this one.  Unzipped it, tried to search for a location, and... nothing happens.  Is it broken?  Is my brain just broken?  It looks so straightforward!

sWeather works fine for me under Windows 7.  Which operating system are you using?  Also, if you're running it from a UAC-protected folder, try running it as admin (or running it from a non-UAC-protected folder).

N.A.N.Y. 2017 / Re: NANY 2017 Release: sPinger
« Last post by skwire on September 26, 2017, 05:32 PM »
Hi, jcamp, and welcome to the DonationCoder site.

Any chance this could work with a list or domain names? Would be a useful to check if a website is running on a regular basis (ping or check every 10 mins)?

sPinger should work just fine with a list of domain names.

If it could check for a 'string' at that domain it would be really useful to see if the website was running and showing the correct content (e.g. check for <body> tag, etc.)

I think this functionality is outside the scope of sPinger.  However, read on...

Cheers (you probably have another tool for this but could not find it :) )

Though it doesn't handle multiple addresses, my TrayHostChecker app might be more of what you're looking for.  You can find it here:

http://skwire.dcmemb...ge=tray-host-checker

I can look into adding your HTML check idea as one of the alert methods.

Maybe you could explain (or point me in the right direction) in how you do in AHK.

Files 2 Folder uses a very old AHK library which I've attached to this post.
