Armando, I agree with virtually all your points.

I'd like to say, though, that I believe that almost any neophyte computer user would be more productive with DA within half an hour.
(Even I, myself, was able to use it!)

what if i add running a tool to the choices of things you can do normally in a formatting preset

Sounds good to me, also. If the preset performs no other action, then you have the external tool only.  In a sense, there's an inbuilt three-way switch; preset, tool, both.

Just to update, the customer has not contacted me since I refused the passport details, which was 2 days ago.

Looks like everything has turned sour.  >:(

There are a lot of legitimate reasons for failing to reply in a prompt manner.

OTOH, if it transpires that the failure to reply was deliberate, don't you think that implies that you're better off not dealing with the other party?
Better to find out now than later.

It's embarrassing to think that this is all a scam, considering the effort it took to meet his requirements.
If it is a con, then it's the oddest one I've ever come across!

It's probably not a scam but it' also better to be safe than sorry.
As others here have pointed out there are better and more professional ways to achieve what your potential client requires.

Good luck, I hope your efforts result in a good, mutually-beneficial relationship!

you're so beautiful, Photoshop couldn't ruin you???

Perhaps you're so beautiful, Photoshop couldn't enhance you.

Even so, I wouldn't try it on anyone whose company you hope to enjoy for much longer  :)

John2k,

I'm mightily relieved that you declined to send passport info. Nothing would induce me to do that, certainly not at this level of commerce.

I wonder what mechanism you have in mind to audit sales and enforce royalty payments?
Perhaps your client would like to send you his passport information so that you can do some verification of his bona fides...  ;)

i'd go with that, Darwin. first thing that came into my head after watching the video was "that looks like a springy kind of fence - one that would give way and then 'spring' back into place" but Cody tells me this is how it was done...

Close but, keeping it in the family, have you not heard this term?

This "one-step" process is actually very useful in doing things like converting a line of text from one case to another, etc.

It certainly is useful, especially with both recent and favorite clips in sub-folders, which largely obviates the need to open the text-processing sub-menu.
4411
this is a cool topic, i always have this paranoia from the days of dial-up.. after downloading, i'll make a folder & throw the installers in it. after a while, sub-folders will appear categorizing them and eventually as folder gets bigger & bigger, i'll just burn them to a CD.. as the installers are deleted, i'll be relying on a disc cataloging program to index all these CDs and find out the contents in each of them.. :)

Pretty much the case with me, too.  I make a sub-folder for each installer, modify the installer name to include a version number, and add a (or use the vendor-supplied) .diz for my cataloguer. I might also throw in a couple of useful reference documents or whatever. When the HD folder reaches DVD size, off go the files.

During the past couple of years I've sent the same material to external HD's. These days HD costs are an all-time bargain (as recently as 2001 it cost me $770 each for 18GB SCSIs, whereas I recently added a couple of 500's to my system for under $300 a piece -- not SCSI, though).  For the first time in my computing life I find that I have more drive space than I'm likely to fill in the near future.

Overall, it must take a lot more time to save this stuff than it would to source it again. I've found, however, that when I need something I need it NOW and then a local copy will save the day. Also, my location means that I have to use satellite internet -- which is prone to outages -- or fall back to dial up. Inevitably, when I do need something it is at a time when internet access is at its worst.

Best Dialog Extender / Re: Enhanced File Dialog
« Last post by cranioscopical on October 07, 2007, 10:55 AM »
I uninstalled Enhanced Dialogs this morning... I'm a bit gutted about doing so BUT it has resoved two issues...

Isn't it annoying when features that become nearly essential in most situations are the very ones that prohibit success in others?
(Or perhaps I should say isn't it annoying when we have to rely on older but practically irreplaceable software, though your issue with notepad makes me wonder about that.)

I never did try EFD as I didn't want the Object Desktop Suite.

The extenders I've used all cause issues with at least some programs. Has EFD no exclusion mechanism? I bet you'll miss that places-bar modification for a while.

Thanks for the update.

General Software Discussion / Re: registration benefits
« Last post by cranioscopical on October 06, 2007, 12:39 PM »
I've seen almost no benefits here but some hassles, as others have found.

Oddly enough, though, my favourite text editor recently had an update for registered users.

Since I first registered it (in 1993) I've changed both my home and office addresses and phone numbers.

I couldn't recall whether I registered it from home or from the office, or when, or if I used my own or my company name, or...  Then I remembered an old file from the days when things were registered by mail or fax.  I always kept a paper copy of these.  In that file I found a copy of my original registration and submitted it, which did the trick.

So, in terms of a registration-benefit success rate that's about .1% thus far :)

The only way I am going to stop worrying (or worry less) is if other people do it for me...or should I say, do their own fair share of worrying that they are supposed to be doing, so I don't have to do it for them.

There speaks a parent!  :)

Developer's Corner / Re: Programming 101 Lesson: Don't Purge User Data
« Last post by cranioscopical on October 01, 2007, 12:43 AM »
A bit off-topic but...

I have a friend with a very significant sum on deposit in one bank account. My friend has made no transaction through this account for slightly over a year. The bank is making regular interest deposits, however, which is why the money was lodged there in the first place.

The bank just made a good attempt to declare the account dormant and scoop the funds. The bank states that the fact that it is making interest deposits to the account doesn't count as 'activity'.

Financial institutions seem to be making some very questionable decisions of late, with potential outcomes always in the banks' favour.

Be calm, all will be well... it's just a matter of when.
If you can't change the circumstance you can certainly change your attitude.

Best of luck getting things sorted.  It's looking good right now.

I know what the problem is...

Adding 'dc' to the beginning of names creates the possibility of a name beginning with 'dcc' which efnet will not allow

And, here, I thought mouser et al had simply had enough of me!

Living Room / Re: How much RAM do you have on your PC?
« Last post by cranioscopical on September 26, 2007, 08:44 AM »
But yes, ASUS is right that you need chipset+bios combo that supports memory remapping, because of memory mapped devices.

I chose my mobo for reasons other than RAM capacity but when I saw that it accommodated 4 Gigs that's what went into it.

I should have RTFM, I suppose.  Utilities can see the 4x1024MB sticks but XP only 'allows' 3199MB.  As you all have noted, PAE doesn't help with this.

Given the high prices that we used to pay for RAM as recently as 10 years ago, I can't say that this really matters very much. I've always found that adding as much RAM as possible is a good first step on the road to avoiding computer woes.

Chris - you beauty! I hadn't done a thing until about a minute and a half ago WRT your suggestion about the context menu. I just turned to that suggestion now and though "Hmm... I wonder if MMM+ might have something to do with this and exited it. Boom! Morpheus works as advertised. Start MMM+ again and it crashes.

Thank you, thank you, thank you  :-*

:) Glad I was lucky with the suggestion! :)
