i've been dreaming of trying to get a camtasia license to give to dc member skwire

I appreciate the sentiment, mouser, but I'm not about to sign up on Facebook just to enter.   Thanks all the same, though!   :D

Would this be better done with one of the utilities that make CRC or MD5 checksums?

For what it's worth, I've written an SFV app that I've never released.

i found Zero Zipper of immediate interest. if that could be automated a little bit i'd find that more handy than the FileList method above. using the zero sized files contained in the zip(s), i could then do a comparison against the extracted contents using something like BeyondCompare

Honestly, if you plan on using Beyond Compare, you may as well just compare simple text file listings.  No messing around with zip files and their extracted contents.  You know?

Honestly, this wouldn't take much at all using a AHK script along with Blat.  Let me know if can't get it working and I'll cobble it together for you.

Does anyone know if it is possible to configure mybase to store each node/child/sibling as an individual file rather than in it's database format? This program is otherwise good to go but I would like to store each file in a hierarchical structure in the filesystem.

I highly doubt this is possible given that their database engine is a key part of MyBase.

Yes, that's what i mean. I want to highlight them in Windows Explorer, and have them automatically sorted into folders without having to manually type filenames!

Please give the latest interim build of Files 2 Folder a try and see if it works as you envisioned.  I've tested it under XP only.  Read the help.txt file for installation and usage instructions.

Download 'Files 2 Folder' v1.0.5.3

If it passes muster, I'll promote it to v1.0.6.  Thanks.

I need to highlight a bunch of files and have each one put into a separate folder, with the folder name the same as the filename. If two files have the same name but different extensions, they should go in the same folder.

When you say "highlight a bunch of files" I will assume you are working in some sort of file manager, eh?  If so, it really wouldn't take much for me to write you a simple shell extension that will allow you to do this.  In fact, I should be able to extend my Files 2 Folder app to allow you to do this.  Let me see what can come up with.

I bought it back in 2005 and have used it darn near daily since.

Pros:
  • It can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be.
  • The database engine is fantastic.
  • No skinning on the main interface.
  • MDI interface (I love MDI interfaces).
  • Well done RTF editor.
  • WebCollect plugin.
  • HTMLTree plugin.
  • Tons of export options including one that will create a stand-alone read-only executable.

Cons:
  • Development is slow. IMO, this isn't a con but it is for some people.  I don't buy software for what it could be.  I buy software for what it is at the time of purchase.
  • Tables within the RTF editor are a pain.
  • The find-as-you-type search feature is kind of kludgy but I rarely use it.

The WebCollect and HTMLTree plugins do their job well.  Does that help a bit?

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: App to hide certain file extensions

You can use a simple batch file for this.  Change the path to what you want and save it as "something.bat".  Then simply run it as needed.

attrib +H c:\path\to\folder\*.lrc /S

You just want an app/script that will set the hidden attribute for .lrc files?

AdMuncher works for all internet-enabled apps.  I don't see ads in any browser, RSS reader, etc.

Still, some part of me hopes that perhaps the 7z binary has improved in the past 3 years to make my request more likely of happening.

I'll take a look, Deo, but don't hold your breath.  Hahahaha.   :P

I've used it for years and love it.

Wouldn't it be easier to simply set the option to ask for a password when the PC comes out of standby (or hibernation)?
It's an inbuilt Windows function in the screensaver tab:

BootSnooze can't do its work, which is waiting for your startup apps to start and THEN hibernating/standby-ing, until you're logged in.  Therefore, it needs auto-login enabled.  It's up to you whether you enable it temporarily via BootSnooze or simply turn it on for your computer permanently.

This way BootSnooze would stay completely out of the realm of passwords and therefore make a lot more people comfortable with using it.  (I don't like the thought of entering my logon details into a third-party program)

Understood.  This is why I was very hesitant to add it in there in the first place.

One more thing, as I mentioned above, I use the autologon function, does BootSnooze check whether this setting was previously enabled before it removes it's autologon entry? I wouldn't like to re-enable autologon every time I BootSnooze.

Yes, it does.  It will only disable auto-login if you enabled it within BootSnooze.  If you have auto-login enabled on your computer prior to starting BootSnooze, it won't even give you the option of using the auto-login feature.  Is that good enough (honest question...not trying to be a smartass)?  Thanks for the feedback.

To me, as a non-native speaker, the author's pronounciation is quite difficult, too. (But hey, it is fun to find out myself how everything works.)

FWIW, as a native English speaker, I find his accent and pronunciation, combined with the audio quality, hard to understand as well.  Lots of feedback and very bass-y, too.

Very nice player  :) Are there any plans for an equalizer ? It sounds nice and clean overall but it would be nice. Nice work  8) I'll be using this as my audio player for awhile thx.

Thanks for the kind words.  As for an EQ, it's been on the ToDo since the start but I just haven't gotten around to adding my test code into the main code.  If I do add one, it'll be a very simple one...maybe five bands or so.  Definitely not a huge EQ since I'm not fond of the CPU hit that they bring.

Oh yeah I found it at http://www.softpedia...s/Trout-Skwire.shtml
I sent them an updated link for the latest build.

Thanks, again.  They've been methodically adding all my apps over the past few weeks.  http://www.softpedia...re-Empire-65728.html

thanks for all the great replies. My main problem is that I work with VPN drives-folder-files alot and mouse right click on those folders can be quite painful and slow because I think Windows tries to cache the files or does some other thing I do not know. So I am hoping to bypass the way Windows does the right click and just get the damn right click menu without prior processing. At least that is my basic idea.

In that case, I don't think any solution is going to help you much.  Whether you bring up the context menu via a legitimate right-click or programmatically via the ShellContextMenu() method I linked above, you're still bringing up the same context menu.  Short of finding a misbehaving shell extension, I would think it's going to take the same amount of time no matter which way you do it.

never used an app key to be honest(my spare buttons are generally rigged up for other stuff), and I am on a laptop most of the time nowadays. Is that what it does ? Again though I do not want mouse button simulation. If the app button is a real menu button then it should be possible to call the appkey code in AHK.

The Apps key will bring up the context menu for the focused application.  I understood your original query to be different than this.  I understood it to be that you wanted the Explorer context menu no matter what other application you happened to be working in.  Can you clarify?
