Hmm... (Darwin strokes chin reflectively - trying to look intelligent but really scrambling for something to say). All I have to say is F*&%$#! Apple... I'll have to take a look at QT Lite but might be better served by K-Lite. I'll have to take a look! Thanks guys

Once I found K-Lite I uninstalled Apple's QuickTime (who needs iTune support anyway?) and waved fond farewell to RealPlayer, middle finger firmly erect.

Hmm... this is interesting. I solved my QuickTime/RealPlayer problem with Quicktime Alternative and RealPlayer Alternative respectively. You're saying that K-Lite will replace both of them? That scenario is pretty attractive, given that the "Alternative" route still installs Apple and Real components. Does K-Lite do the same?

Hey, cool find Jesse - thanks for posting it. I have been thinking about rearranging my work space and this might be just the ticket. I find that I get locked into habitual grooves of perceiving space - software should free me from that (I hope)  :P

good to hear this, Darwin.. when the dust settles, you may want to get more info on why he had not replied to your earlier e-mails.. :)

Sorry lanux, just noticed this response. The developer mentioned that he isn't always able to reply to e-mails, but collects the suggestions and criticisms and adds them to a list for ananlysis. Didn't elaborate beyond that (though he apologized) so I'll have to ask him, I suppose. As you say, I'll wait for the dust to settle first - probably until after the new version is released, or if that turns out to be a long time coming, early in the New Year.

Is this even a development problem? Looks more like a straight forward puzzle to me. The answer is B, by the way. When in doubt, always answer B...

Phew! That's a relief. I seem to have dodged the "File-Ex freezing Word 2003 when inserting a break bullet...". For now. Gulp  :o

Edit
Just remembered file ex caused word2003 to hang on me when i tried to insert a break soooo i dumped it to lol

Groan... Thanks for the heads up. It's starting to look as though I should just live with Windows' default offerings (Gasp! The horror!). Anyway, just came back here to say that I'm glad you got Enhanced File Dialog to work on your notebook. I really miss it's ability to add a seemingly unlimited number of shortcuts to the Places Bar - something no other dialog extender that I've tried seems to be able to do...

+1 for Icon Packager. I've used it in the past without any trouble whatsoever. You can change your icons from default to whatever you want and back again without worrying about corrupting your default settings. Of course, YMMV!

Just to clarify, I actually like Stardock's offerings a lot. WindowBlinds is amazing if you're into skinning - it really does use fewer resources than do Windows Themes. However, I am in a minimalist phase at the moment and begrudge anything that uses resources unnecessarily so I've uninstalled for the moment. I also find that I consistently tire of all themes/skins and return to Windows Classic. Call me a boring old coot, but I prefer it to any of the themes/skins that I've tried.

Yeah, fortunately real beauty does not need Photoshop (hey, look, a slogan :P)

I like it Lashiec - start pumping out t-shirts and bumper stickers - you'll make a fortune!

nite-monkey - why do you have a picture of Adam Savage as your avatar?! Of course, you might ask why I have a picture of Amud 1 for mine... Just curious because I'd always assumed it was your picture, until I noticed the ^Adam Savage (not me)^ qualifier under it!

It's probably not a scam but it' also better to be safe than sorry.

Agreed. A little paranoia in the cyber age is definitely a good thing (well, not a bad thing, anyway). Like Chris, I hope this is the start of something that benefits both you and your client - maybe you two will have a good laugh about it in years to come

You might be right, Jesse. I'm probably just paranoid, but after years of living abroad, I am quite suspicious of any request to surrender one's passport - either in the original or as a copy.

Interesting - this is described as a "complicated workaround" but it's a simple matter of changing a "2" to a "3"... Hardly seems like rocket science.

Note that:

Adobe categorizes this as a critical issue and recommends that users apply the workaround described above for their product installations.

Ralf, this is a problem with the Acrobat rendering engine and not the file format itself, so if you are using Foxit and do not have Acrobat Reader installed, you should be fine.

John2k -good move! As a Canadian (albeit not a lawyer, software developer, etc.) I can tell you that the information that the customer has requested of you doesn't sound right - I've never heard of any bureaucratic requirement that a Canadian individual or business gather this kind of info in order to do business with an overseas individual/business. In fact, I'd say that it borders on illegal. But what do I know... I'm glad you didn't just do as he requested because I think it's FISHY, FISHY, FISHY...

My purchase from August 12 was refunded today. Amazing... both that SWREG are so good about this and that GemX didn't respond to a single message - just let a customer and $70 drift away.

That's bizarre, George. I am "stardock free" now, but had WindowBlinds and Enhanced File Dialog running together without conflict. The only thing that I can think of suggesting you try is installing EFD, setting it up and then rebooting. Nowhere does it tell you to do this, but I've always found it necessary to get EFD to work! If you can use EFD it's worth it!

Update: I've switched to File-Ex for now as XFilesDialog was conflicting with Webroot's Window Washer and refused to ignore it... Yes, I know, I don't really *need* Window Washer but there it is...

I don't recognize ANY of the programs he claims to be discounting.

I had the same experience but edited a similar comment out of my previous post after I recognised the Cucosoft line that he is offering... Still, nothing there of interest that I could see, but that might just be me.
