I just tried cpuidle over night and one thing that i noticed is that if you use copernic desktop search set to index when idle, it doesnt when cpuidle is running, dont know how it checks for idleness but thats what what happened.

General Software Discussion / Re: Do you use Desktop Widgets?
« Last post by Grorgy on November 05, 2007, 04:27 AM »
I've tried all sorts of widgets gadgets and what have you.  I have found them all to be more or less useless to me, the ones that are useful, things like ram and cpu usage and disk space are more easily and to my opinion better sourced through other means, i don't want to know all the time what is going on in there, I just want to use it lol.  And while i do use some of the object desktop suite, i limit it pretty much to the window blind, which seems to have no impact on the system, most of the time anyway, the right click which provides a useful, configurable program launching option and sometimes i use object dock, i sort of like it but its a bit time consuming to set up decently, easy enough, just time consuming, so i've got rid of it for now to.

But like housetier says, find what you like.

General Software Discussion / Re: A rant about how I finally ditched iTunes... :D
« Last post by Grorgy on November 04, 2007, 03:49 PM »
Me too, I also hated that installer thing it had, i thought, somewhat foolishly perhaps that it would install only the apple products you had, ohh nooo, it installed all itunes and quicktime which, at the time was a bigger problem to me than now, as then i had a 1 gb download limit and itunes and quicktime took a tenth of that almost blahhhh.

As apple free as i can be now  :)

And its worth noting that while I use and like Archivarius, it isnt without its indexing problems.   I knew i had a file but archivarius wasnt finding it.  I eventually found it through just looking everywhere, fortunately it wasnt far away from the place it should have been, so then i double checked my search criteria, tried other words, and then i rebuilt the index, and it found it.  I have less than 10000 items in that index at this time so size shouldnt be a problem lol.

Anyway just thought i'd let you know that it to has its little quirks.  Ahh for a perfect system, and one that would make the coffee to, 8)

The difference to donationware tho is that you do have to pay something, according to the page you only get a trial version with limitations unless you do.

General Software Discussion / Re: Gmail rolling out IMAP Support?
« Last post by Grorgy on October 26, 2007, 03:41 AM »
Hi tomos, lifehacker had an article about that here's the link http://lifehacker.co...mail-imap-314565.php
And a quote
If you've set up Gmail IMAP using Google's instructions, you may have noticed a couple of snags—namely that your Sent Mail, Drafts, and Deleted Mail aren't necessarily matching up as you'd expect between your email client and Gmail. To remedy this, you'll have to tweak a few advanced configuration settings in your client,

Hope this helps

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Synergy: Sharing your keyboard and mouse
« Last post by Grorgy on October 24, 2007, 12:30 PM »
I origiinally couldnt see a nexessity for this type of thing either, though I was on the prowl for a way to share mouse and keyboard to cut down on clutter without it being a big priority for me.  Stardock then sent me an offer on multplicity pro, so i gave the trial version a go.  It was so easy to set up and the pro version lets you copy and paste files and folders from one computer to the other, (it supports up to 6 computers I think but i only have 2 so I dont know how well it works in greater numbers)  It has made sharing of files and folders and just text snippets an absolute breeze.  You can be writing in word , say on one screen, have your browser (or any other app for that matter) on the other and cut and paste when you need to

My opinion is that these apps may not be necessary but having used one I would not like to have to go back to not using one, saves soo much time.  So whether its multiplicity or some other similar app I would recommend giving them a try.

Ive been using multiplicity for a while now, and it works great.  I only use windows so thats not an issue for me.  I read some reviews on it and they all said there are freeware ones and so on but if you want it easy, want it to work out of the box, probably, they did mention some people had trouble with firewall permissions but that was all, then multiplicity takes care of it all.  It does to, i just installed it, it asked me to choose what computer was what which side and so  on and i've been able to ignore it ever since. Installed and working in ohh 10 minutes or less (well i had to figure out dhcp once i started using wireless a bit but that wasnt multiplicity's problem  :-[ )

However, it does not have a nifty method of scrolling windows that aren't in focus.

I use KatMouse for that, I dont know if you have tried it but it works great for me http://ehiti.de/katmouse/

No privacy policy, though Angry

They do have a privacy policy, but its a bit hard to find lol.  If you start signing up for an account it has a link to terms of service, in there is a link to its privacy policy.  here is the link direct to the policy http://www.exalead.c...m/about/document/27#

IMO, locate shouldn't be put in the same category as software like X1 or Archivarius. AFAICT, Locate doesn't index content at all. No?

Thats really what I was getting at Armando, they do different things, but i like locate because thats really all i need for most things, and I find archivarius so easy to use and so configurable that it suits me perfectly.  I got so sick of the constant indexing and always running nayure of X1 and windows desktop search, i think they have some options for changing those things but i never found them and now i am happy with the solution i've got, works for me.

I voted for locate, because its the general purpose all in one file folder finder for me, but i use archivarius for document i just know are there somewhere but cant remember the name but remember what they are about, gets quite a bit of use really  :-[

just downloaded and installed it Darwin, ran kaspersky on it as an individual scan on exe file and the whole directory.  No threats detected.
