Living Room / Re: Reddit Leaving GoDaddy because of SOPA Support
« Last post by mahesh2k on December 23, 2011, 05:29 AM »
@Renegade, I'm not going to opt for UK host because they have their own version of ACTA which is foster sister of SOPA. So I'm searching for hosts in other parts of EU.

@Nosh, I'm buying everything these days that indian politicians throw at us. This "anti-religious" bill is pending for quite sometime for unknown reason. You do know that all the parties are against passing bill that says "Legal action against superstitious beliefs". In MH, that bill is already on hold. As for suppressing political censorship, I agree that was the motive behind for lefties but righties are supporting this bill for their own agenda. If SOPA gets passed in US, It'll not take time for indians to pass our very own version of it.

India is going to follow the same footsteps and opting for a bill that protects religious sentiments. So it's okay for religious people to say "infidels should burn in hell" but you as a non-believer have no rights to lift a finger on them,It's a word of god ofcourse to create non-believer product and then asking believer product to save that  lost soul from going into dustbin, makes sense. This is no different than SOPA, as we already have politicians controlling RIM, Google and Facebook to control any random content going from india to pakistan or iraq.

@Renegade, I'm searching for european hosts as of now so I'll update thread for alternative to US hosts.

Maybe MS should write it in bold on their W8 page. Metro is for touchscreen users and not for users with keyboard n mouse few inches away from the screen.

I hate to create thread like this but I came across package which was similar to bitnami stacks. It installs apps like fantastico on windows or linux machine and can be used for development. I don't know which package or site that was, I'm sure that it was shared here by some member, any idea ?

I am using CI (codeigniter) for some time now and want check if there are much better frameworks out there. I'm not much into ajax stuff so not sure if building ajax based app without framework is any better exp or not. I just want to see if there is any other good framework like codeigniter and how you would start with frameworks if you get chance to start over all again?

UrlSnooper / Re: very confused: downloading youtube with urlsnooper?
« Last post by mahesh2k on December 18, 2011, 07:42 PM »
Sorry for bumping old thread but most of the softwares and services mentioned in this thread are down or not functioning well. I am using youchoob right now which is working once or twice a day and going down. I am downloading Codeigniter tuts from YT and thought it's worth trying for tutplus.com, but it seems they're using their own hosting. These are some nice tuts that i want to watch offline. Any suggestion for that as URLSnooper failed to download or even catch the stream.

How so is this "Google's answer to Adblockplus"? I don't understand. It doesn't seem to affect ABP - ABP blocks that too (I just checked - if I disable ABP then I will see these ads, but when ABP is enabled, I don't).What am I missing here?

I've adblock plus enabled with fanboys list and ghostery enabled to filter all the ads. I'm adsense user so i can't afford to click on even any random websites ads so that's why i run adblock to block ads from the networks. As you can see from screenshot, this search engine placement ad escaped through the filters of adblockplus and ghostery. So that's googles attempt to deal with ABP users and to manipulate search engine results at the same time. I am not sure how you managed to escape from this update of google because it is rolled out globally and there is lot of criticism going on for this.

Google's answer to Adblockplus, sneaking static ads in between search results. lol I guess soon they'll mix the colors and it'll be hard to see if it's ad or not. I'm sure that advertisers are going to get ripped off if they get false clicks or bounced clicks, google is making damn money with this.

That is true, some of the startups are in the process of abusing the free software. I have seen some shopping carts offering open source software only to premium subscribers. I do understand that open source can be paid, but using copywriting gimmicks with word free doesn't make it free. At least no like GNU's "free" but more of buy one get one free.

If the statistics are truthful, then how is it not being real?  Just because others use it for marketing purposes, does that predicate that he is doing the same, rather than showing transparency?
Exactly. You can verify his prices by checking leasewebs price plan and some other prices which he added into the table. This type of approach from startups/small business is verifiable because most of the DC'ers can scrutinize every small bit of it. In case of IM blogs and services, that niche entirely is based on scam and delusion of information sales, so there is no point of transparency there. It's gray collar business.

I like that he's transparent with his business, it's rare to see folks doing that today. Check his spreadsheet of expenses. I now see his point about being real about starting any cloud service for 'fees vs free'. Anyone planning to offer web service for free should read that blog post because it doesn't matter what customers think, Its about bills and food on table.

As I said in my above post, that's only a showstopper for somebody who needs to make a living off of the thing they're doing. And while it's true that most free software isn't truly 'free' in the absolute sense, in practice it often is. Most FOSS projects go on for years and numerous revisions with little or no financial contributions - despite the fact they're often asked for.

Just to add to my previous comment of untargeted ads and lower earning for publishers.

Check this ad

and this.

If these ads are shown on programming site then you're not helping publisher by clicking on these ads. These are unrelated and low cpc ads.
