Living Room / Re: Still weird: The mouse is more accurate than a finger
« Last post by Target on November 19, 2014, 04:05 PM »
not to forget that the mouse is 'controlled' so you can amplify or mute the commands, change speeds and/or resolutions etc

try doing that with your finger :o

Developer's Corner / exercism.io - another learning channel
« Last post by Target on September 23, 2014, 08:45 PM »
Slashdot today referenced Exercise.io, which may be of interest to some here

looks like a sort of crowd sourced coding school.

They work with several languages, and you download a set of exercises that are solvable in all of them.

Submit your answers (for one or more languages) and get feedback from 'the community'

Living Room / Re: Rethink Smartwatch

saw this this morning - Neptune Pine Review

I've been interested in the idea of a smart watch but I think that like most devices they're trying to put too much functionality into the things (just because you can do something doesn't mean you should).

At the end of the day I think we as consumers need to adjust our expectations -I mean, do we really need/want to do video on a 1-2" screen, or game, or browse the net?

Having said that I suppose we'll just continue to consume whatever we're fed (no matter how ridiculous) 'cos that's what we're trained to do

IIRC rainlendar has (or used to have) a pretty active community - plenty of skins available already so maybe something suitable already exists

I'll have a go at saints row if that's OK...

How about some cool features that DC could add/host:

I don't think it's appropriate to place any further impositions on DC (mouser) under the guise of a celebration, else we'll have to run fundraisers in January and February

How about contacting some of the sites that are sympathetic to DC (like Ghacks?).  Could be they'd like to contribute/participate...

The friends I know do just what is intended... use recording among friends and family at certain events.  But that doesn't mean that they don't wear them at other times... and that seems to be what people get paranoid about- even though they are doing nothing wrong.  No filming, no nothing.  How is that right?

unfortunately it's the same old story where the few spoil things for the many.

too many people still don't realise that the internet is forever, and what someone thinks is harmless or a bit of a joke now could have real consequences far into the future

that and the fact that the media have trained us to be paranoid about both the technology and the people who use it (for whatever reason).

A new banner is a must

sounds like an opportunity for a 'competition'

best ones get displayed thru the month (ala google)

holy shit, this is hard...

here's a tool I wrote sometime ago to nag me about tracking my time.  It might or might not suit your purposes but feel free to do with it what you will

FWIW I used it for quite a while until I the nagging got too much for me (and I realised that I was really good at ignoring the thing (ie it's called nagging for a reason)

interesting discussion, but it seems to have escaped your notice that the 'engineers' name was watson...

Living Room / Re: Nextdoor: The anti-facebook social network for neighborhoods
« Last post by Target on August 21, 2014, 12:49 AM »
neighborhood isn't a finite description, so I'd be interested to know how they define it

I mean wouldn't you be peeved if you lived on a boundary, and got info about stuff at the other end of the neighbourhood (and people who aren't even your neighbours), but not the stuff next door (in you're neighbourhood).

That said, I suppose it does provide a window into what's going on locally, which could be a good incentive to get involved

hey Miles, how did you get on with Task Space?

444
I think it really depends on your level of investment

Sims will never duplicate the IRL experience because they can't duplicate the physical feedback (like shocks, noise, or the abject terror of knowing that you're plunging to a fiery death from 30000 feet, or about to plow into a concrete wall at 240kmh)

That said they can teach you routines and habits though, like the use of controls without looking at them, monitoring of instruments and the ability to understand what they're telling you while still concentrating on whatever it is your trying to do (fly a plane, drive a car, etc), emergency procedures.  They can also teach you different skills like navigating or prepare you for unfamiliar situations (emergencies, instrument ratings, a new race track etc).

I don't know any hardcore simmer's but I understand that they can (and do) take it very seriously so for them it's probably as real as it can get

Oh it wasn't so much that the big picture went out of focus. It was more a case of applying it to the wrong target...

lucky you're not a hit man (or unlucky if you are :o)
