Thanks!
The last thing I added is that every keyword (of at least 4 chars) in the results shown is clickable, to initiate a search on the file description for the same keywork.
So, if you for example start with searching what are files with extension "FLAC", then can click "lossless" on the results and see a listing of all the filetypes / extension related to lossless (audio).

You can try some memory test, for example GoldMemory.
That way you at least will be able to rule out some hardware memory issues.

Every format the VirtualDub open will do: PNG, BMP, TGA... even JPEG - there's probably something in the structure / format of your JPEG files that VirtualDub don't like, but creating some new JPEG may solve the issue.
431
You can try batch-converting all the images with something like XnView or IrfanView, and then let VirtualDub process the resulting / converted files.
Do first some tests with a couple of images to be sure that VirtualDub like them.

VirtualDub can do it.

That about Win was just a joke, obviously.
I agree that it's surely a bad move / show for Apple. It could take very little to obfuscate the "security image" (real or fake that it may be) that they are enjoying with the general public. Every (mis)step in that direction seems a bit suicidal...

Considering that this beta seems to me an alpha at most (seeing the frequency at witch is crashs), IMHO it's just a case of a rushed out release (for the sake of having something to show / fill the gaps), with all the problems / issues that this could led to.
Surely a bad showing for Apple.
On the other way, their PR machine could probably easyly turn the gaffe on something like "see, on Windows even Safari have security issues"! :)

I don't even like Safari much on the Mac - why bother with it on Windows?
-Carol Haynes (June 11, 2007, 04:20 PM)
I too never liked Safari on the Mac. I tried to use it at first, then switched to Camino: the Cocoa interface & apparence with the Gecko engine from Mozilla. Easy on the eyes and works well.

Review / testing of Safari for Win at this point are of little use, IMHO, as it seems it's just a rushed out - barely usable version, probably just to "make a point" about their commitment to port it to the Redmond platform. It will came handy to test thing to be run on the iPhone, probably, in the future.

On a slight different note, you can still get some really great HP200LX on eBay! :)
That device is still a dream pocket machine, IMHO. A very usable keyboard, and weeks of works on a couple of AA NiMh batteries! Plus every DOS development system it's OK to code for it.

Where I work we used to develop some software for them, and I see many of them still working after 10 years or about.

Combine that with the ability to read the barcode pointing the webcam (if a Smartphone is used)... it could be pretty interesting.

I would say that "unauthorized duplication/usage" is better than "piracy".

BTW, just to clear things up, I live working as a programmer.

I'm the only one thinking that "pirate" is a such too strong word for what we are talking here?
I mean, it seems that the criminal connotations of the word (that may refer to murdering, raping, etc.) are a bit disproportionated...

As every good Pastafarian know, pirates are "absolute divine beings" and the original Pastafarians.
It's also very well known the direct connection between the global temperature increase on the planet, and the shrinking numbers of pirates since the 1800s.

Wikipedia explain it well: Flying Spaghetti Monster - Pirates and global warming

Speaking of formatting text I know, from the old Fidonet times, of a person that always used to compose his messages in a pretty peculiar way. He set itself on the quest of always justify the text, without inserting additional spaces in it! The process was called by him "Sernification", a play on his surname.

An example (quoting from random message peeked with a quick search on Google Groups):

[...]
No. Che non dobbiamo inventarci COSE CHE NON SERVANO!

[...]

He could go on for pages and pages, and you always see a perfect right margin (quote asides)! :)

At home, I'm used to have the free edition of AVG.
As per the firewall, I'm satisfied with the sort of "natural protection" given by beigh behind the typical NAT/router/broadband combo, so I have no additional software firewall running on the system.
I'm simply not a fan of / too concerned with the outbound control protection. Not a popular position, probably.

Thanks!
I'm thinking about the Seeker to remain just an indexer & search engine, leaving then the details to the pages of the sites from witch the results are shown; usually they do a pretty good job. Plus, given the different kind of approach of the various indexed sites, you can find some info on one, some additional others on another one, and so on.
