That is indeed very strange..
Whenever there is some problem accessing the database file it seems to be traceable back to an antivirus program locking the database file.  There are some options in CHS for where to store that file.  Changing that location and/or adding it to the list of excluded folders in your antivirus program might help if it happens again.

CHS also makes backups of your database regularly, so as a last resort you could restore from a backup.

You should be able to click (and hold) on a blank area and drag it up to the top (you may not get visual feedback until your cursor nears the top).

Let's get back to this overarching point for a second:

My use case was keeping a somewhat searchable visual log of what I had done/was doing.

I have occasionally thought of making a kind of hybrid app that was a combination of Automatic Screenshotter plus some more information, with a more flexible system for browsing history of activity, so it could be used more as a way of tracking one's own activity history.. I'd be interested in hearing more ideas along these lines..

I guess the idea is that it would try to log the activity you perform on your computer, with screenshots, to show you what activities you were doing, what apps you launched, documents opened, etc.

The only issue I ran into was when deleting the images from the internal screenshot browser. I needed to back out of the folder containing the images I had deleted and then navigate back in for the image thumbnails to disappear.

Add window title to custom naming

added to todo list, that's an easy one.

having program specific profiles for capture would be useful.

that's a good idea.. but not so easy to do.

If someone were using this to audit their time, I could see it being helpful to add a "project" tag and be able to apply that tag to the captures being collected.

I like this idea.. i may add a right-click menu item to set the project tag (maybe hotkey too).

For a while now I've been considering making a small stay-on-top window that shows your most recent clips.  Do you feel strongly this needs to be in the taskbar?  What if it just floated somewhere on your screen, would that be good enough?
