Circle Dock / Re: Questions about circle dock...
« Last post by sgtevmckay on January 22, 2010, 02:09 AM »
I will  be upfront in saying: I have no idea.

But that said: I am curious.

Try it and let us know.
There is also the option of a dead install, and then to create a zip stand alone and then install this as well.

Have you read the help file on running multiple instances????

Greetings tryvex

Welcome to Donationcoder.com and Circle Dock;s little corner.

I am gong to place abet that you installed to program files, and that you have the UAC turn on (Default setting)

That being teh case you may wish to look over the following post for a working solution:
https://www.donation....msg192215#msg192215

If this seems un-appealing to you, let us know and we will try to get this thing working for you from a different approach.

Go into settings and select the "Set Portable" Mode in each....

Close and restart each CD...

This may very well correct this situation.
Be aware that Circle Dock will now write all files to itself, and not the AppData file

You may not like what I am about to suggest, but it is the best I have at this time.
It is a copy of my current set up  ;)

I am running CD on Windows 7 64bit, and the following is how I got it to work all but flawlessly.
At the very least try it.

Create a new folder in your C: Drive.
I created a new folder for independent programs that do not require install (ie. Portable Applications software or Self Contained software...Linux folks will immediately understand)

I gave myself a new Program Files called; Program Files (Alternative)
File Address:
C:\Program Files (Alternative)

This assists is several areas, but most of all, it avoids the UAC catches from other closely monitored folders.
Circle Dock is already a stand alone program for the most part, so this is a good way to go....and if in the future you utilize, say Process Explorer, you have a place to put them and you know right where it is ;)

Uninstall the current version of Circle Dock and be sure to check your AppData files to be sure there is no remnants of the old install remaining:
C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData
The Appdata is typically a hidden file so you may need to "show hidden files" in Folder Options, or copy and paste the above address and change the red User Name to the name that you use on your system, or that you signed in with.
Also be sure to go back and delete any Circle Dock folders left in either the Program Files, or the Program Files (x86) if running Windows 7 64bit.

If you still have Circle Dock 1.0 downloaded then double click the Circle Dock Install, and then where it ask for the directory to install, search and install to the New Program Files (Alternative Directory you created earlier.)

Finish the setup process, and at the end of the process...you are asked, via check boxes, if you want to start Circle Dock and the Help file....UNCHECK both of these, and complete the install.

Once the install window Clears...you can then utilize the Start menu or the desktop shortcut, and start Circle Dock.
Start Circle Dock, before you open the help file!!!

This is the exact procedure that I utilized and it works like a champ.

Final Note:
If you are comfortable with Running the UAC on, as I am, but you have programs that write information back to the
Program file...Then the "Program Files (Alternative)" as an excellent place to install these programs, be they 32 or 64 bit...Just be aware that this folder will not be monitored by The UAC, so be careful what you install and run from this folder.
This concept also has proven to be a welcome addition to my Program Files line up.
I run Firefox portable, Thunderbird 3 portable, Process Explorer, Kompozer, ResHack, CPU-Z, GPU-Z, and sTabLauncher as stand alone installs to this folder...I had to create shortcuts after unzipping and installing, but hey...small price.
This is also where I installed Circle Dock and Zoom player 7 Max

I hope this helps
If not let us know and we will try something else

Let me know  8)

This will become and official suggestions and request thread.

If you have a suggestion for Circle Dock, please feel free to list suggestion(s) and Request(s) Here.

I will do my very best to maintain a request/suggestion list here on this post.
So before making a suggestion: REVIEW THIS FIRST POST, the List, and all posts, CAREFULLY!!! To see if what you want to suggest has already been posted.
If it has been previously suggested...you run the risk of bad words and my special ability: TONGUE LASH!!!
Trust me; you do not want a Tongue Lashing from the Sarge!

Please do not expect over night solutions, as there will be none (Rome was not built in a day...and all that).
You may also follow along at the Code Site here (Markham has been real good about keeping this up):

Bug reports, features, and further information can be tracked through this site.

That being said, please make your requests and suggestions for Circle Dock.
Be as clear in your request and suggestions as possible, as I will be re-posting your request to "the List".

As features requests and suggestions are filled...I will mark the request, in the List, appropriately.

Please Note!!!:
No request(s) or suggestion(s) are guaranteed to be fulfilled, but every effort to investigate the possibility will be made
Nor may the final product be exactly as you may expect

If you have further questions...Do not hesitate to ask

The Request and Suggestions List (aka. The List)

Note: On the "Issues" Tab, at "Filter", select "All" and then click on "Apply" to see all the current Issues, otherwise some will remain hidden by default.

Ability to add "Docklets" from other Launchers: (Accepted)
Status: http://redmine.dcmembers.com/issues/59
This is self explanatory, and is being looked at carefully by Markham.
This will take some time, as entire code re-writes will be needed.

Option to turn off "Snap to" Dock option:
(Completed: V1.5)
Suggested by: Boiiwonda
Date: 01/17/2010

Status: http://redmine.dcmembers.com/issues/57
This would be an elective option in settings
To turn on/off the Snap to Circle Dock, when the dock re-appears after being hidden.
This functionality would work when Circle Dock is Locked (Anchored) to a specific location.

Option to have Circle Dock appear at last shown location, instead of follow cursor: (Completed: V1.5)
Suggested by: Boiiwonda
Date: 01/17/2010

Status: http://redmine.dcmembers.com/issues/57
This would be an elective option in settings.
This would work while Circle Dock is not Locked (Anchored) to a specified position.
This would allow an equivalent to drag and drop for Circle Dock.
This would in effect be like Locking CD in Place without locking, so if  I Last opened Circle Dock on the left side of the screen and click the center button on the right, Circle Dock will appear in the last appeared location.

Add "Lock Location" to Circle Dock context menu: (Completed: V1.5)
Suggested by: sgtevmckay
Date: 01/17/2010

Status: http://redmine.dcmembers.com/issues/58
Add option, similar to Automatically Hide. to the right click menu.
This function would be equivalent to the settings option: Lock Dock At Current Position.
Located in the Right click menu (Context Menu) Immediately below Automatically Hide

Adjustable Zoom Feature for icons and text: (Suggested)
Suggested by: Arekku (LifeHacker)
Date: 1/21/2010

Status: http://redmine.dcmembers.com/issues/66
This would add an adjustable zoom option similar to that of Object Dock and Rocket dock, when icons are hovered over.

Toggle Circle Dock appearance/disappearance as a Windows Context Menu Option (Rejected)
Suggested by: dkazaz
Date: 1/23/2010

Status: http://redmine.dcmembers.com/issues/65
Add the ability to toggle Circle Dock's appearance/disappearance utilizing the Windows Desktop Context menu.
Quote from suggester:
"I'd love to be able to right click the desktop and have Circle Dock as an option on the context menu (ideally the first one)."

"always on top" option in tray icon context menu (Also for CD Context Menu) (Suggested)
Suggested by: joiwind
Date: 02/07/2010

Status: http://redmine.dcmembers.com/issues/77
Add to CD and Systems Tray Icon Context menu...ability to toggle "Always on Top"

Remember the last icon directory (Suggested)
Suggested by: Padz
Date: 02/07/2010

Status: http://redmine.dcmembers.com/issues/78
The program remembers the last file folder but always reset the icon folder to default and this is quite annoying for people like me who have a folder with all icons for different apps.
I have also thrown in a related request to be attached to this one:
I am also going to see if we can get Circle Dock to copy Icons to Circle Dock Icon Folder(s).

    * This would help maintain the portability of The Icons, and Circle Dock, when the appropriate Icon is not available when Circle Dock is in use on other systems.
    * This would also reduce system resource use, as Circle Dock will not have to scour the system looking for Icons.
    * this may also increase the speed of Circle Dock. As Icons could then selectively be made part of the core folders, and Circle Dock may be able to load the Icons faster
    * See if this can be done with a pop-up question: "Do you want to copy this Icon to the Default Circle Dock Icon folder?" If moved, then the Icon that was coppied, is teh Icon used and not the icon from the remote file

No problem friend....

There is the possibility that I have missed and option...so check back and let Markham respond as well.
At the moment I am hoping he is sleeping and not programming  8)  :-[

I will also ask to see if we can make these an option as well
2 options to request:
1.) ability to turn off "Snap to" Circle Dock when it appears
2.) re-appear in last location.

Let's see if Markham says these are possible

Circle Dock / Re: circledock probleme
« Last post by sgtevmckay on January 17, 2010, 04:30 PM »
You have only two Options.

It Circle Dock is locked into place, or it follows your Cursor.
If Circle Dock is locked into place, when Circle Dock appears, the cursor will go to Circle Dock automatically
If Circle Dock is not lock into place, it will appear where the cursor is.
That is the nature built into Circle Dock.

U guess I should ask:
What is it exactly you want Circle Dock to do???  :tellme:
If I am understanding correctly...You do not want the Cursor to center on the mouse when it appears, but you do not want the Circle Dock to follow the Mouse either?

Welcome bageraz
And to DonationCoder.com and Circle Dock's little corner

This is one (or more) of a few things:

.NET framework is not installed, or corrupted.
You have stated that .NET Framework 2.0 is installed. I would suggest looking for updates, or uninstalling and re-installing the .NET Framework
There are a few steps I can provide to help you through this if you want to tackle the situation.

Symantec Antivirus conflict....Ick
If you are using Symantec Anti-virus software. There is a possibility that it is creating a stop gap against the Circle Dock program.....
If you are using Symantec AV....Turn it off for a few moments and then try to run Circle Dock...If Circle Dock runs, you will need to put and exception in to the AV for CircleDock.exe and related files.

A Driver Conflict

I can not see this as the cause.

A Virus!!!
This is the most common Culprit, and the WORM_KLEZ.E virus in Particular.
In this case run a thorough Virus Scan with a good AV software.

There is a slim possibility that you have too many bad or conflicting registry entries, but this is rare.
I can make a couple of suggestion to clean your registry if you wish, but I would not take responsibility for the results...So I will not pass this information on unless you request it.

There is also the slim possibility that a key part of Circle Dock, or require system software is missing to run Circle Dock....but this is an extensive list, and I wouldn't want to try and track a simple missing piece.....

My feeling is that ultimately it will come back to the .NET framework, as the 2.0 framework was and is easily corruptible.
But this is my current guess based on the error shown

Bonjour Boiiwonda

Welcome to DonationCoder.com and Circle Dock's little corner  :)

To address most of your questions.
It is a 2 pronged deal.
You need to:
1.) Place your dock where you want it
2.) Open Circle Dock Settings
3.) Go to the "General Tab", and then to "Location Tab"
4.) Make sure you uncheck the "Center Around Cursor When Shown" box FIRST!
5.) Then Check the Box Below it. Check "Lock Dock At Current Position"

This will lock the dock in place where you set it.
It will also work with the Cursor to side show, Hatkeys, and Mouse command setup.

No worries about your English...I do not know French, and that's ok

Greetings mukyduck  ;D
Welcome to donationcoder.com and Circle Dock's little corner of it  8)

You are absolutely correct: The animated Icon requires standard Docklet to operate.
Unfortunately at this time Circle Dock does not support the standard Docklets that are available.

Markham is working on it, but from scratch as we have not been able to acquire a template to work from/with.

But Markham is working on it for a future release.

we will keep folks posted through these forums as advancements are made

I love and utilize Gimp..In fact the center Image is a modification of someone else's work...But it has been so long I could not tell you who did it...

You are welcome to it and you can download it here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1016357/Images/Windows-5.png

As for the list of Icons I have..It is a collection of well over 2.5 gigs worth and collected over the last several years.

Most of the icons come from RocketDock Page...which can be found through the Circle Dock Help File...look in addons
Or here:
http://rocketdock.com/addons/all/popular

I also look into Deviantart, I also do a general Google search for Vector Icons, and use CoolIris in FireFox to cut through hours of searching  ;)

Updates:
Before I go into a long explanation...I will say that Markham is a new programmer of Circle Dock, and no time scale has been determined at this time...Understand that up until October Circle Dock was a dead project in Alpha testing, and went Full release in less than 30 days.
So when will this capability to available...I can not say...a lot of re-tooling of core software and home work will need to be done to add the docklets capability...and as no one has come forward to assist in this integration...Matkham has to start from scratch.

So I can not give you a time frame to having the necessary integration for the Recycle Bin and others

I am glad that the fix for teh Computer folder work...and I also hope you are having fun...
Watch us close as apparently Markham (Our beloved Circle Dock wizard  :-* ) seems to have some big plans
We shall all see in time
449
Actually after much consideration...The option did just as it was supposed to.

None of my other stacks were deleted, just the quick Launch...but this is a windows virtual folder any ways and in windows 7 may not be seen as a link.

The option also deleted all of my Winamp controls, but these are Program linked arguments and not true links.....

I have no complaint as the option, when turned on did exactly what it was supposed to do

Any thing that is not seen as a true folder, or program link is deleted.

It coul dbe that since CD loaded first that the rest was un-see-able at the time, and CD summarily killed those links.
It could also be that Winamp was not immediately on at time of boot, so CD, being a smart program now, could not make the relation and killed those shortcuts as well.

On the other hand...It did not kill any of my NirCmd links...so I am unsure....All I know Is that I have confiirmed this three time so far, and turning off this function corrected the issue.

Maybe an item setting that allows the delete function to be exempt if checked???

Normally I would say that this is the UAC interfering with Circle Dock, but I am at a loss (Currently) as to why it is having ini file issues.......
This is currently throwing me off.....let me see if I can even replicate this issue and get back to you

You may try and run circle Dock with Administrative Privileges, and see what happens
