Living Room / tablet screens to go blind for
« Last post by nudone on May 13, 2011, 10:32 AM »
Samsung tablet screens to go 300dpi. Now we really are talking HD and getting a bit closer to how the 21st Century technology should be.

PC Pro's original article here: http://www.pcpro.co....me-changing-display/

(I wish I had a bit of time to tell my mixed views about that iPad I bought. In summary, tablets are way more useful than I ever imaged - as an ebook/RSS/readitlater reading device. As a piece of design they are lacking in so many ways I don't know where to start - but the most obvious is that Apple has aimed the device at tiny little elfs with tiny little fingers - and lots of App developers seem to favour this mystical market of fairy folk too.

Tablets are going to be amazing in about 10 years time when they eventually make them for someone that doesn't have child-sized hands.)

This could be a lot worse than any of us previously imagined...

Heheheh. Life imitating Art yet again. And all ready for 2012 - Armageddon is on the horizon. :)

Select justify as the alignment mode.
use shift-enter to end the line.
Yes, I know this is a weird way, but it works.

cool tip. now the problem is how to remember this next time i need it.

Hmm, I'm now beginning to wonder if any password stored service is safe. This story is going to become increasingly common I suspect. Not good.

Probably like you said, sell the data on so ads can be targeted to you and your habits - or if they say they aren't doing that, then it is perhaps because they haven't got to that stage yet; in other words they are all gearing up for the time that they can do it

If you're a professional economist I'd suspect it's starting to get a bit embarrassing...

Well said. The highest paid practitioners of pseudo science on the planet. No better at predicting the economic future than staring at sheep's entrails.

Maybe I just mean bankers - but I'm sure they follow all the latest trends in economic theory.

If only the US High Command had read that wiki article.  :)

That wiki reported strategy looks like propoganda - ooh, look how succesful AQ are, they must be really clever and organised, what a terrible foe, we must do everything we can to get them.

In reality, AQ is a label applied to lots of disconnected groups that don't need to communicate with each other or form a strategy on a global scale - but that doesn't sound so good as a foe. Or so I am to believe.

As for OBL - again, as I am lead to believe (or simply want to believe) - he isn't even important in a strategic sense. He'll continue to be the mascot for many believers I'm sure, no doubt his stylised poster adorning many misguided student dorms in years to come.

I see they are now reporting rubbish about him hiding behind his wife to avoid getting shot. Maybe this is true - or is it simply total crap - it sounds like an idiotic way to portray the man as even more pathetic than he'd become.

Here's a convenient link if you want to follow the reports updated by the minute: http://www.guardian....bin-laden-death-live

Interesting bits so far:

Bin Laden living in area known to authorities for quite a while.

Orders were to kill, not capture.

Burial at sea okay under Islamic Law - or not, depending on which expert says so.

I couldn't help myself...

Submitted for your amusement:

Osama Bin Laden Dead Thanks to iPhone Tracking

Highly reliable sources (the voices in my head) are reporting that the death of Osama Bin Laden is entirely thanks to him owning an iPhone, allowing his location to be tracked.
(see attachment in previous post)

Heheh. That's the most appropriate news item I've seen so far.

"Apple, we took a year to get white right."

Now that sounds exactly like the kind of marketing they'd use - and it is exactly the kind of thing Apple-Drones want to hear.

"Apple is so meticulous, it took them a year just to get "white right", boy, I am so glad they got it right. The did it just for me because they really care and know how important Aesthetics is to me. Thank you Apple. Thank you." - apple-drone now weeps with joy knowing s/he is truly one of the chosen ones.

As MilesAhead said, Epson, with individual cartridges for ink. I've only had Epsons, and they were all the stylus photo range. Yeah, there are a few compatible cartridges thrown straight into the bin when they are found to be dry on opening - but at around £2 each, I'm not upset.

The biggest factor I've found when trying to print out nice photos was the paper - this was using "photo quality" paper of various weights. Many allowed the ink to bleed quite heavily - even though this was "special" paper. The colours can shift dramatically too depending on the brand of paper.
441
For everyday use, I always use cheap compatible cartridges - they are a too cheap not to use - less than a quarter of an original's cost, maybe less than a fifth. You can't tell me an original will last five times longer when printing.

Maybe the original's ink will survive longer after a nuclear holocaust - which I'm not too concerned about.

Printing seriously for photography, then you'll need to worry about your paper too - but that doesn't sound like your issue.

Heheh. Can Apple do nothing right? No, they can't.

Now Greenpeace says this Apple just isn't healthy (for the environment)...

Oh I think Apple has grasped the issue of privacy just fine.

And now that they've grasped it, they're trying to drag it into the bushes and murder it. ;D

heheheh, good point.

Does it matter, well, I suppose so. Am I surprised, not really, who would be these days...

http://www.guardian....rompts-privacy-fears

It's a (Guardian) article about how mobile Apple devices are tracking and keeping records of your locations over several months. That's nice of them not to bother to ask first.

What I found used/wasted most ink on my Epson was printing those color squares after you do a head clean.  There's one square for each color of ink. If you print those a couple of times until all the colors appear solid you can visibly notice the ink level drop.

Instead I print this .rtf file:

ingenious. will be doing that next time.

I've worked somewhere that a manager did it. He seemed happy about the change. I just wonder about it being a strain on arms and back if you are typing a lot.

I hope this is just a demonstration of how worried they are about the soon to be pointless iPhone - not long now for android to completely dominate.

I've heard similar problems before and I think one answer was to check if you need an extra power cable to the card - because it's easy to overlook that kind of thing. I know I've done it.
Ah yeah, that would result in a very unstable machine - I thought later-gen cards all refuse to even start if the additional power cables haven't been installed. Some even come with buzzers so you get some very nifty/nasty audio warnings :)

Probably so. It's a long time since I dealt with any new hardware.
