For a very long period of time, I would settle with Windows' backup/recovery solution. I have been 'lucky' and have not yet needed any thing else. From time to time I have purchased a back up program when the price was right (Acronis Truemage Home 12, Avanquest PerfectImage 12, Backup4All Pro 4, Paragon Harddisk Manager 2010, R-Drive Image Backup). Unfortunately none of these seems to offer the solution I want; they all want to compress and back up in a proprietary format, or to create an image which I see as just another proprietary format. I don't see compressed containers as a safe mean - and safety is what back ups are about - and I don't want to be enslaved by some proprietary format.

I used Acronis TrueImage Home 12 to clone my C drive, only to realize that Acronis doesn't offer incremental back ups for to such. A full cloning takes 8 hours.

I want an image but I don't want an "image" file format; it too is proprietary, I imagine (sorry!). I want a 1:1 copy; a clone (not of the drive sectors, but of the files)! Preferably it should offer automatic, silent, incremental updates of the back up.  What should I use?

I can only back up to external USB hard-drive (2x500 GB).

I just won a license for this premium powerwasher. The program is made by the  German company 1-abc.net, and the Powerwash 'GUI' was as such probably translated from German into English. Anyway, I had a bit of a laugh when I saw this one:





--- "for the last time"? No, it is not from the trial version! And yes, I did run it one more time to see if it would say so again. Luckily, it did start again... However, they were sort of right, somehow it really was for the last time... kind of... because the clock had changed!

My little head is configured in such a way that I refuse to purchase this F-PROT, for the simple reason that I can only pay for five licenses! No, don't tell me that I get five licenses for the price of one; I only need one, but I cannot have only one; for some weird reason I must have five! My square minded brain then says that in such a case I am clearly also paying for five - which I won't.

-oh yes, I forgot to answer StoicJoker's post. Sorry! The reason of course being that I have no idea what either of you guys are talking about!  "NIC"... = "network interface card"?? Hardware, software? Inboard, outboard?


To update drivers is nothing that I enjoy. My Driver Magician 3.45 may be good, I don't know, but it is not all-knowing enough for me to merely mark every driver and Go. Would drivers class "Network Adapters" be a natural place to begin?

My Vista is unstable  and is probably causing Outpost to misconduct. All the Blue Screens were in the beginning followed by a Send_Error_Report_To_Agnitum, by Outpost. I unchecked the option because it was getting tiring not to get any reaction from Agnitum (not that I expected any, but one can tired of procedures that will never trigger a response).


I have been using Outpost since version 2.5, and I have a lifetime license; so I (too) am looking forward to version 7.

But on the bright side, I have found my key for Online Armor++. Only, back "then" we were given trials, and that seems not to be the procedure any more. I wrote their support a couple of hours ago, to mail me a download link, but I guess they are busy.

The problems with tcpip was becoming a several-times-a-day experience when I accidentally was saved by a weird "coincidence": In order to gain a little more free memory for my CPU, I clicked "adjust Windows to best performance" (disabling the nice glass effects, and other well-looking features; all with no connection to the Internet) and went back to the sad Win 95 Look - and for ten days now I have not had a single accident with tcpip.sys!

My imagination cannot quite cope with this, because I see no reason why tcpip.sys ever should be affected by the look of Explorer??!!??
