Living Room / Re: could wall colour help or hinder your work?
« Last post by cranioscopical on February 26, 2008, 04:30 PM »
who knows, maybe if I paint the walls bright yellow I'll never procrastinate again

You might find it helpful to know that yellow is the favourite colour of the insane  :o

Might be worth a look here here

Good luck in your new digs, hope you'll be happy and comfortable there!

This IS annoying Josh. What annoys me is the presumption of it... and the futility. Really, all that is accomplished is a lot of seething resentment on the part of the people who were forced to let the jerk in...

I don't see why you're being so crabby... I had my turn signal on!

we should have ate the fiscal difference and gone satellite

It's what I use.  If it's of any comfort to you, I find it disappointing.
The cost is high, and performance is not nearly as fast as one would like.
(My only alternative is dial-up.)

Thus, does anyone seriously think that there is any point in trying to get this done under extended warranty?

I think it depends on who was the original vendor, and who issued the extended warranty.  Was the latter a third-party supplier or warranties?

I've had little but hassle with extended warranties and now will only use them if they guarantee a carry-in, over-the-counter replacement.

Time's money and I'd rather just pick up a new item, suffer the short-term pain in the wallet, and get on with things.

It hurts when you've just refurbished something, I know.
I was in a similar situation a year or two back with my wife's then recently-updated computer.
I looked at the options then bought another.
Looking back, that was the smartest thing I could possibly have done in the circumstances. I don't
regret it for a moment.
My wife ended up with a better machine and I was freed from a bunch of time-wasting hassle .

Whichever route you choose, good luck and I hope it works out for you.

I'm sure you appreciate all the blessings of children despite with the occasional accident.   :)

Head over to the Dopus Resource Centre if you want a "real" solution!

Thanks, did that a while ago since posting here -- at the moment, changing the icon spacing for DOpus' Large Icons view can't be done.

Would anyone want a free DonationCoder.com bumper sticker?

Will it do the job of the two pieces of rope and a bent coat-hanger that are holding my bumper in place?

Does it mean you'll pay my speeding fines when the summons is sent to DC.com?

Let's try this. Every time you purchase a piece of software, you also have to buy me a copy and ship it to me. This way, at least I get something out of the deal.  :P

Fair enough, stand by to receive my second copy of The Breakbeat-Techno Anihilator... :eusa_boohoo:

Semi-impulse

If I see something recommended here, by someone whose views I respect,
I might just pick it up 'sight unseen' especially if it's discounted.
Gives me something with which to play when insomnia strikes.

another turbo pascal/c fan here; borland's turbo language tools were amazing when they came out for the pc - they must have raised a generation of programmers.

When I first bought Turbo Pascal it was about $69.
At the same time Microsoft Pascal was about $400.

The value was so good that I remember being wary lest TPas was some kind of scam.

It looks as if a little bit of AutoHotkey scripting ought to do what you want.
(Look up 'Click' and 'MouseClick' in the help file.)

It's a shame that there isn't a "lending program" for such items - we could really benefit from something like that!

Can't you hire one for a couple of weeks?

I'm getting this quite a bit lately (v1.19.02)

Perhaps not surprisingly, if I then click on the 'Presets' menu I see the attached violation.

This usually self-corrects with a reboot... any ideas where I might look for a cure?

Thanks

FWIW I've used this for ages and find it excellent for doing finnicky positioning stuff.

CRTL-numpad-* to adjust preferences for it (which I almost always forget)  :)

How about...

The more you win, the greater the chance of winning again until one lucky member simply receives every piece of free software?  ;)

Nice find Nudone, this reminds me that you can also buy copies of very old Sears catalogs:
My sister and i used to go through these catalogs like an accountant looking for tax breaks when it was time for us to get presents.

And what did each of you receive in 1897?  ;D

It's always nice to win something - thank you!

Thanks, in fact, to everyone here at DonationCoder. As I see it, everyone here contributes to the success of the site and so -- directly or indirectly -- helps to make every aspect work well, including the giveaways and discounts.

Extra thanks to mouser and CThorpe and to others who worked directly on arranging (and donating) the current, very impressive list of items to win!

mouser: The fact that the optimizer does not keep track of how many times you've won, only that you've won in the recent past.  If I modified that those who have won many times would not be winning so often, even if they have been entering a lot and for a long time.
and
Should we more actively try to bump the weights of people who are actively contributing on the site?

It seems that the more you try to weight things, the more subjective the system becomes. My vote would be for the closest approximation to a truly random system that can be accomplished. That way, everybody has exactly the same chance to win, every time. When one tries to impose 'fairness' on a system the higher becomes the chance of introducing inadvertent inequities.

mouser: It might be nicer to put in some term which looks at how many times a person has entered and lost and boost their chances of winning if so.
Should the optimizer keep track somehow of whether you won the most prized prize or the least?

Again, my 2ยข goes onto the pile for random selection, same argument.

There are so many variables and imponderables to try to control -- entered and lost often, entered and lost seldom, didn't enter at all because no desired software in some drawings, entered every drawing no matter what...and on, and on...

To be 'fair' requires some subjective assessment of, and assumptions about, behaviour and you don't have access to the required motivational data. Seems to me that every attempt to 'deskew' the system will only skew it in another direction.

And, mouser, it's no small tribute to you that whatever you decide after taking the collective pulse will likely be just fine with almost everybody here!

Hi,

I think you need this Net 1.x uninstall.

Had the same issue, this fixed it.

Good luck!
