General Software Discussion / Re: SQLNotes...what is it exactly?

I think you forgot the "spouse filter". :P  Depending on whether or not the spouse is in the room also filters out what gets displayed on the computer screen.  ;)
The filter has a toggle button, which can be used to quickly change the grid content if desired   ;D

What? No free cameras, motion detectors and highly sophisticated facial recognition plugin to automate it for you?  :D

Ok...here is the step-by-step (click thumbnails to view full size):

1. Go to ponyfish.com and click the link that says "Create a feed now"

SNAG-0242.png

2. Go to the profile page of the user you want to make the feed for and at the bottom, click the link that says "Show the last posts of this person."

SNAG-0250.png

3. Copy the complete URL of that page to the ponyfish page and click 'Go'.

SNAG-0243.png

4. You will get a warning. Click the link that says 'continue using Ponyfish'.

SNAG-0244.png

5. It will load the last posts page in a box.

SNAG-0245.png

6. Scroll down and locate the links you need to click and click them. They will be the end portion of each group of links. Do not click any other links on the page, but click all the end links for each group. There will be 25 links that you will click. Each one will be listed below after you click it. They should all lead to an actual forum post.

SNAG-0246.png

7. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click 'Continue'.  You will come to a page with some weird stuff in a box. Don't touch anything there. Just click 'Continue' again.

SNAG-0247.png

8. You should now see a page something like this:

SNAG-0248.png

If everything looks good, scroll to the bottom and click 'Finish'

9. You should now see a URL. This is the URL of your custom made feed. Copy & paste this to your feed reader.

SNAG-0249.png

And here we have a few more made for you, in case you have any more problems:

My daughter decided to treat herself to something this year:

A Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy logic rice cooker ($164.55):

If you don't understand why someone would pay so much for a rice cooker, or what the heck 'fuzzy logic' has to do with cooking rice, here is a good article mouser found, that will explain:

GOE 2007 Challenge Downloads / AnotherOneDone - GOE Challenge 2007 Entry
« Last post by app103 on December 02, 2007, 05:09 AM »
My entry:

AnotherOneDone - v1.0.0

What it does:
Helps you keep track of your progress with a numerical goal, such as the amount of books you want to read, blog posts you want to make, batches of cookies you want to bake, etc.

Features:
  • Autosaves the amount of your goal.
  • Autosaves how many you have done.
  • Calculates the remaining amount left to go.
  • Copy info to clipboard.
  • Progressbar.
  • Stays on top.
  • Minimizes to tray.
  • Access to some controls from tray menu.

Limitations:
  • Only tracks a single goal.
  • Stores data to registry, so it isn't portable.

How to use:
  • Enter the amount of your goal in the top box.
  • Click the Set button.
  • Each time you complete one towards your goal, click the Add 1 button.
  • Once you have reached your goal, click Reset and begin again to set a new goal.

Ralf...
Stop making me defend WinME. Go pick on MS Bob, or Vista, or WinCE 3.0/PocketPC 2000. Leave my faithful, hard working ME alone or I'll send an army of ME-tans to your house to beat you with scallions. :-*

This seems to be based on your IP, so reinstalling your OS wouldn't help, since your external IP would most likely remain the same..

Changing your IP might help though.

For most people with a dynamic IP, turning off your modem for about 5-10 minutes and turning it back on is all that is needed to cause an IP change.

Living Room / Gamespot Editor Fired for Writing an Honest Review
« Last post by app103 on December 01, 2007, 03:45 AM »
We've heard an unsettling rumor today from an anonymous tipster that longtime game reviewer Jeff Gerstmann from Gamespot has been let go. That wouldn't necessarily be newsworthy, but the conditions under which he was allegedly dismissed were. According to the source, Gerstmann was fired "on the spot" due to advertiser pressure for his review of Eidos' Kane & Lynch: Dead Men. A visit to Gamespot shows that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game has taken over the site very prominently, with backgrounds and multiple banner ads all pitching Kane & Lynch. Allegedly, publisher Eidos "took issue with the review and threatened to pull its ad campaign."

Living Room / Signs You're a Crappy Programmer (and don't know it)
« Last post by app103 on December 01, 2007, 03:26 AM »
You know those crappy programmers who don’t know they are crappy? You know, they think they're pretty good, they spout off the same catch phrase rhetoric they've heard some guru say and they know lots of rules about the "correct" way to do things? Yet their own work seems seriously lacking given all the expertise they supposedly have? You don’t know any programmers like that? Come one, you know, the guys who are big on dogma but short on understanding. No, doesn’t sound familiar?

1.Kryptos

Kryptos is a sculpture by American artist James Sanborn located on the grounds of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Langley, Virginia, in the United States. Since its dedication on November 3, 1990, there has been much speculation about the meaning of the encrypted messages it bears. It continues to provide a diversion for employees of the CIA and other cryptanalysts attempting to decrypt the messages.

It's funny that he asked an archaeologist for the answer to that one.

I would have asked a master chef. After all, the question was "Why can't we just cook her?"...it didn't mention anything about eating.

Even if that was the question, I still wouldn't have chosen to ask an archaeologist...I would have asked a dietitian. ;D

This is where Wordzilla's Free Thesaurus can help.  ;)

Try for words with similar meaning to rapid, fast, quick, speedy, etc.

Or try for words that suggest it...rabbit, jet, cheetah, rocket, etc.

General Software Discussion / Re: Hey Grisoft: I love AVG but I hate popups!
« Last post by app103 on November 28, 2007, 01:06 AM »
The popups seem to have stopped on my machine and my daughter had the old style ones on hers (not using the browser, with an option not to be bothered again).

We have the same settings, I installed and configured hers for her.

In the past, AVG has always done some advertising towards the end of the year. I expect this. But what I wasn't expecting was for them to use my browser to do it. They have never done that before.

I don't understand the randomness of this and why some people are getting one type and an option to turn them off, and others get a browser window and no way to make it stop other than uninstalling AVG, and still others get nothing bothering them at all.

I don't worry that much about how much space a toolbar will take up on my taskbar. Those that have seen screenshots of my desktop know why.

They think it's scary.  ;D
