True. Kind of a Cadillac vs. a pickup truck kind of thing. Sure the caddy has prettier fit and finish ...But you can get stuff done with a pickup.

That's why I have a pickup. ;)

Then I saw Apple's Time Machine program.  I really liked it, so I'm going to model my imaging setup to mimic that.  So what does that mean?  Here's the explanation (from Wikipedia):
"Time Machine saves the hourly backups for the past 24 hours, daily backups for the past month, and weekly backups for everything older than a month"
That's what I want to do.

Sounds alot like the Previous Versions/Shadow Copy Service that's built into Windows. Can be configured to do snapshots daily, weekly monthly, or every 5 minutes (not recommended), as you like. Default is twice a day.

The aluminum chassis of the MacBook Air is a good example.

It is? Maybe if the objective is style over substance. *Shrug* But IIRC they have a rather bad history of broken screens. Something about thin & rigid (being opposites) not mixing well.

Sure it's just dandy if you wan't to stand there and pose with it. But get some work done? Well you just plug in your... (oh wait) never mind...  :D

I'm sure a lot of seemingly superficial things can be detected as "religious" brain activity.

Interesting point. I think they should then focus on the parts of the brain that shut off (logic, reason, attraction to women) when fan-bois view Apple stuff.

Sounds like it would be simpler to just lock the machines down via group policy. The IE clear history tab can be removed from internet settings. There is generally no good reason for letting users have the permissions necessary to install alternative browsers.

-and/or-

Go low tech ... Create, circulate and post a network AUP - costs what $6 for package of paper? First few times people get pulled aside to have to explain their actions...should deter the rest quite nicely.

@40hz - You really should consider publishing that dictionary of yours. It may actually save the world through laughter.
-Stoic Joker (May 18, 2011, 11:28 AM)

Thanks, but it's a little too snarky in most places to really be funny in a good way. I mostly use as a personal therapy exercise. People might get the wrong (or possibly the entirely correct) impression of me if it ever got out in it's unexpurgated form.

So save your reputation and publish it in my name... :D ...It can't be any worse than most of George Carlin's stuff ... and people loved him.

Damn-it man, don't make me beg.  :)

Now this one's really funny:

According to reports on Nyleveia.com, Eurogamer, and NeoGAF, Sony's PlayStation Network password reset system-the one just put in place after the PSN hack-has been compromised, allowing hackers to change a PSN password if they know your email and date of birth. Exactly the sort of information that was released in the original hack.

Apparently Sony hasn't heard of the put the reset link in the Email trick...  :wallbash: ...Wow!

I've never really been much on horses or art ... But those are cool!

Is there a back story/website for those? I know some people that may be interested in one of them.

The sculptor is based in Devon (England). Here's her website.

I'd shy away from Access.

I think you mean run away shreaking in terror, right?

-------------------------------------------------

But seriously. SB How are the test being presented/taken now? Do you want a web interface with a question pool db backend? I'm actually not entirely sure what InDesign is/does ... So I'm trying to get my head around how you'd make a test with it. Are these printed?

I've had great luck doing a ton of projects based around MySQL. It's easy to work with and you can access it pretty much any way you like.

I have a very real problem with this:

All the measures of the law should protect property and punish plunder.

Law should protect PEOPLE. That attitude is the one that lets lawyers run rampant protecting "property" through silly patents and whatnot.

Quite true, but he covers that rather well earlier on. Including the lawyers part.

For those using an HTML5-supported browser, go here and click to join the HTML5 trial for YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/html5

It will convert about 35-40% of the Flash videos on YouTube.

Cool, I'll give it a shot.

So if these worm gears have teeth ... Does that mean the Early Bird will (finally) get screwed?

You ain't tricking me - I always show up 5 minutes late - The early worm gets eaten alive!

T-Clock / Re: T-Clock 2010 (download)
« Last post by Stoic Joker on May 17, 2011, 06:12 PM »
It would be nice if you could have a option to display that one instead of the T-Clock one.
yeah actually it would be nice if we had some options for calendar, like to display t-clock one, windows one, or a custom exe.

I don't understand.  If you want to display the Windows clock, why do you install this?

Yes the default Windows 7 (clock's) popup calendar is really cool - Albeit next to impossible to trigger - And it doesn't stay open if it loses focus. But I'm trying... :)

T-Clock / Re: T-Clock 2010 (download)

Thank you, thank you, thank you this application is so useful and we really appreciate all the work you've put into it.

I read where one want to improve on the calendar, but I didn't see where this was mentioned. I found a small problem on multiple monitors with the calendar. If you have the start menu moved to a monitor that is not your primary the calendar will open up on the primary monitor in the correct position. I found that this to be the case for all three out of four of the positions of the start menu (top, bottom, and left) with the exception being on the right side. It displays correctly.

I'm not sure if its possible, but I like the Windows 7 calendar that is built into the default clock. It would be nice if you could have a option to display that one instead of the T-Clock one.

Thank you for your continued effort of my making a part of my daily routine better.
Well thank you, it's always nice to know folks are enjoy T-Clock.

On the non-primary monitor bugg. I'm not sure if I can fix that ... I've always been under the impression that the start menu/taskbar is supposed to be on the primary monitor (which is adjustable). That and the dialogs are all supposed to be positioning themselves in relation to the clocks position (by design). But do please clarify if I'm off in the weeds ... I do do that sometimes... :)

Windows 7 calendar from default clock is quite an elusive little bugger. I have made several attempts at finding out how to hook and launch it but so far to no avail. I typically only quit trying after I win ... But I occasionally do have to regroup which can take some time.

It would be nice if you could have a option to display that one instead of the T-Clock one.

as a web page:
http://www.constitut....org/law/bastiat.htm

Thanks for the link - I Just love this part:
Now since man is naturally inclined to avoid pain -- and since labor is pain in itself -- it follows that men will resort to plunder whenever plunder is easier than work. History shows this quite clearly. And under these conditions, neither religion nor morality can stop it.

When, then, does plunder stop? It stops when it becomes more painful and more dangerous than labor.

It is evident, then, that the proper purpose of law is to use the power of its collective force to stop this fatal tendency to plunder instead of to work. All the measures of the law should protect property and punish plunder.

Plunder stops when it becomes more painful and more dangerous than labor.

Now that's beautifully simple and quite clear ... I think I'll have it engraved on my gun.  :D

Living Room / Re: The end of the line for cursive writing
« Last post by Stoic Joker on May 17, 2011, 06:34 AM »
It just occurred to me... The cost of people not being able to properly read/write in cursive will be high as illiterate pharmacists try to decipher doctors' scribblings and end up poisoning people!

Not really, print is harder to completely butcher. So if doctors drop cursive it should actually help the situation.

When I was younger I had a fairly nice signature, now arthritis has turned it into a scrawl. ...I haven't written in cursive in so long I've actually forgotten some of the letters.

Okay... So I was going through me spam the other day and ran across one I really couldn't get my head around. So I thought I'd share it:
Dear Webmaster,

Now what possible part of my site could they have "found it relevant with our industry"? Is this some new trend, trick, trap, or just SEOs Gone Wild?
