Currently I use a MS-DOS batch file within my Sendto folder to accomplish
this task, but it has a few drawbacks which the new software would cure.

Time is displayed properly again but the bitrate and size are going to have to wait for those types of files.

That's what I was referring to in this post: https://www.donation....msg212474#msg212474  However, like nudone and steepadept, I've always thought of it as an oriental style bowl.  I'm picturing two shirts:

  • Black t-shirt.  Large bowl image, red, centered, on the back.  Small "Coding Snack" text on the front, over the left breast area.
  • Polo-style shirt with small bowl image, red, over the left breast area.  Either a black or white polo would look good, methinks.

I have ~3500 songs all in the same playlist and when I added them it did read the tags, but it also took a lot longer to add songs.  This wouldn't be so bad if I could start playing while the rest are being added.  Trout tried to play, but the streaming sources kept failing.  I'm guessing this has more to do with the http server I'm using (python -m SimpleHTTPServer) than Trout though.

I doubt is has to do with the server.  Maybe I'll change it so it reads the tags on playback instead of on load.  That way, you'll see just the filename at first and the tags will come in as the files are played.  Would that be acceptable?

Also, the seeking seems to work the same as it did before.  I can't immediately seek to the end of the song, but I can seek short distances until the song loads completely.  Again, maybe the http server I'm using doesn't support it.

This is probably more of a issue with the upload speed of the server.  Are you streaming these from home to work or something like that?  If so, there probably isn't going to be a whole lot you can do about it.

Woot!  Another name for the list!   :D

Right now I have my music collection being served up via http and Trout is the ONLY player I've found that will reliably play it.  Although it doesn't read the ID3 tags.

Try the latest build I just uploaded.  It should read tags when adding them to your playlist and you should now be able to seek those URLs as well.  Please let me know if it works for you and if I've broken anything else in regards to streams and streaming.

Also, what is the difference between the Shuffle and Random Play Modes?

  • Random plays songs randomly with only a basic check to make sure it doesn't play the same song twice in a row.  This mode doesn't quit until you click stop.
  • Shuffle takes the current list, randomises it in memory and plays each track exactly one time.  Certain things can reset that order (adding songs, stopping, etc.).

in the past I used WebMon (http://www.markwell....ternet.co.uk/webmon/) to monitor some websites/pages for news and updates. Now I'm looking for a free service that does that (almost) in real time - once a day is not enough - and sends me an email if there's an update.

According to the WebMon screenshot, you can set the update-check interval to as little as one minute.  Also, according to the feature list, you can "run other programs when updates are found."  That other program could be a command-line emailer such as Blat...so you could email yourself.  Make sense?

No doubt we'll all now expect not just coding snacks but full repasts!

Unless your files are named in some sort of standard way, parsing out the track number could get ugly.  I'm guessing your files are not fully tagged, eh?  Reading and displaying tags, instead of relying on the filename, would make things MUCH easier for something like this.

shorten it to show only the folders under or after the My Music folder and not the c:\docs and settings\user\my documents.

Try the latest from the same URL.  You may have to clear your cache.  I also increased the scanning speed at the cost of some CPU usage.  I feel it's worth it and you may not even notice it.

I am guess that the 01,02 is part of the file name.  could the sort be set to exclude the numbers?

Do you want to do anything with the list other than view it?  Double-click a row to launch Explorer at the path...or to launch the file in the default player, etc.

You just want audio files listed, right?  So, anything with the following extensions:

AIFF, AIF, AIFC, MP1, MP2, MP3, OGA, OGG, WAV, MO3, XM, MOD, S3M, IT, MTM, FLAC, WMA, WMP, WMV, MID, MIDI, RMI, KAR, WV, WVC, AAC, MP4, M4A, M4B, M4P, APE, AC3, SPX, TTA, OFR, MPC, ALAC, SHN, TAK

That should cover most all audio formats I know.

To all the folks suggesting clipboard managers, I think you're missing the point of kalos' request.  He doesn't want to MANUALLY cut/copy and paste, he wants something to automatically parse through a source text file and allow him to quickly send each line to a, potentially, different target file. 

For the sake of easier coding, let's assume a maximum of thirty targets, okay?  That way, each target can have a button as well as a hotkey:

1-10: Ctrl-1, Ctrl-2, Ctrl-3...
11-20: Ctrl-Shift-1, Ctrl-Shift-2, Ctrl-Shift-3...
21-30: Ctrl-Alt-1, Ctrl-Alt-2, Ctrl-Alt-3...
...or whichever combos you want.

Would this be acceptable?  Also, you didn't answer my question about GUI design.  What did you have in mind?  Did you want to see the whole source text file?  Or just sentence by sentence as it parses through it?  Or, did you want to leave it entirely up to me?

If you want unlimited, I don't see how you expect to create a unique hotkey combo for each destination file.  Your thoughts?  Also, did you have any sort of GUI design in mind?

@Paul Keith: Yes, it's similar but I think kalos wants something more automated where he doesn't have to manually copy a line to the clipboard, etc.
