I'm a bit of a believer in the bigger hammer theory, you know the one, if a little hammer doesn't do the job try a bigger one, well Curt, for you given that your computer sounds as though its almost dead anyway, id give it a go, if you kill it, you are forced to get it fixed upgraded whatever  (a good thing!), otherwise you may just improve things slightly (another good thing), who knows  ;)

just make appropriate grunting noises Darwin, i find that effective  ;)

I noticed that with spysweeper.  It wouldn't work on my system anyway, kept causing the whole thing to stop, so i removed it, real quick.  I even told them why as they take you to one of those annoying, why did you uninstall pages, but never heard anything, oh apart from their newsletter which I think is an opt out one rather than opt in.

Evernote, on the other hand, appears to have its own built-in sync feature.
Yes, but in order to sync, you have to also purchase the USB version. Sycn works very well though.

I have been synching between desk and laptop via a USB stick and it doesnt need the USB version to work.

A free alternative, which looks pretty good, tho i havent actually used it yet, (and its portable) http://www.thezeal.c...php?Money_Manager_Ex  probably doesnt have all the features of some of the commercial software but its free, doesnt want you to put information on line or anything silly like that.  Worth a look at any rate

I mainly used it this last semester to link to documents and some brief notes, i was always being so efficient that to try and use something I was not 100% familiar with to write an essay when it was already overdue just wasnt going to work  :-[  But i found it very useful for that, and at that price I'd buy it, well i did lol but i needed dual licenses as it only is licenced for 1 computer.  So not a lot has changed since my last comments on it really, i need to practice more with it as it isnt an easy thing for me to learn, but that may just be me.

Perhaps since he is the developer and doesnt like dual pane file managers, he'll just go on developing the worlds best single pane tabbed file manager

Remind me again why people love Apple so much?

I think i heard it was the plain cardboard box it comes in, sort of reminiscent of those mail order businesses that would send things in a plain brown wrapper  ;)

i did a google search for it curt, cant remember the exact place but its easy enough to get, and the one i used was timeout.exe
418
Thank you Eoin, makes for a much prettier startup  ;)  and just the one line in the bat file, gets better all the time!

Cheers
Grorgy

Well I've used the timeout.exe and have it in my startup folder with both the stop and start and it works ok, so thanks for that Ralf.  Carol's solution would be the ideal way to go, but i can't code to save myself, tho i once wrote a cobol program that said happy xmas and punched it up on those cards that used to exist, but thats all ive ever done lol  So thanks saves me some effort and i learnt a little more,  :)

Cheers

ahhh nooo ralf, the timing and delay issues at present are all solved in a purely manual way lol.  I watch the first one, then run the second to restart it  ;D  I have 2 bat files,, first 1 stops it,  i then run the second to restart it, and its the manual bits of all this I'm getting sick of  :)   The way im doing it is easier than going to services and a bit easier than using the FARR plugin but its not ideal (of course ideally the service would start ok but it doesn't)
421
Hi
I'm looking for a little program to restart a service that refuses to do what it is supposed to when i reboot the computer, the service starts but it doesn't actually do what it should till i stop it and restart it .  At the moment I'm using a couple of bat files to stop it then restart it, this works fine but is beginning to be a bit tiresome, particularly if i forget to do it, so what I am looking for is a program that i could run that would restart a selected service or services and then I could have this set to run at startup.

Does such an animal exist somewhere that anyone knows of?

Thanks
George

Darwin, there is an option just to do the indexing anyway, or at set times of the day but it is a fairly disk intensive process as you would know and given my usage, set times are next to useless.  letting it do it when idle is by far the best option for me.  I dont actually have a need for cpuidle, my computers are both running well, no apparent over heating or other such nasties.  I'd rather have a search function, and i gotta say I'm pretty happy with copernic, less resource intensive than the others Ive tried, and with archivarius and locate for the more specialised searches it fits in well.
