Living Room / Re: Buying New PC. Suggestions?
« Last post by mitzevo on September 29, 2006, 01:29 AM »
What suggestions would you fine people make for me to purchase a PC?  Difficulty:  My budget is around $500.00.

Listening to Clark Howard on talk radio, he's just about discouraged me from Dell.  What do you guys think?

Well for starters.. it would be good to know what you plan on doing on this new computer... Are you just going to be using the internet? Or do you plan to play games.. (if you do then you wont be able to get a solid gaming computer for $500)

Do you know any thing about computers? Do you know any thing about your requirements for RAM, hard drive space, etc?

I think you should explain more about the problem.. before any one can give a good answer.

It is the right direction for me.  I much rather people use the software and support it if they can, rather than have people turned away by a donate / reg process.

Every one knows that quality freeware/opensource stuff is the best... Why? Because it's quality and best of all it's free.. or maybe the quality should be the best of all? :o

General Software Discussion / Re: What IRC client do you use?
« Last post by mitzevo on September 28, 2006, 12:59 AM »
I remeber having some laughs with irc and ms chat ... ;D  8)

As for IRC client, I used to use mIRC when I first learnt about IRC, now I have been through various clients for various OS's.. althought I never really relied on any big scripts that alot of people use.

At present I am using the free build of xchat 2, just take a look at the good features

The only thing I find a bit annoying is the window redrawing.. some times I doesn't redraw the window so you have to manually resize/etc. to clear the funky visuals.

I also like to use the black theme, found here

All in all, X-Chat 2 for Windows (free silverex build) is a decent client for windows

edit: well now i've switched back to mIRC, LOL.. i think f0dder had some influence over this..  but i think really when you think about it, mIRC is quite solid.. dispute all the haters of it.. and xchat is abit annoying in regards to window redrawing.. (or the whole gtk issue.. w/e)  so I have removed xchat now, also the gtk files.. now i feel like ive cleaned up shop :D hahaha.

The Getting Organized Experiment of 2006 / Re: who dares wins - my challenge to you.
« Last post by mitzevo on September 27, 2006, 04:39 AM »
Ok im in.. but I kind started around the 1st of september.. so I have been doing some simple exercises the last month, every few days.. I'm quite happy to say I can see a 6 pack developing.. he he. And if I stop, it's all a waste of friggin time, you wouldn't believe how many times I've stopped doing some thing, then started again, it's pathetic, I tell you.. Let's see if I can continue this routine.. if not, then I suck.

Bye.  :o

Living Room / 'Hactivism' Group Launches Anonymous Browser
« Last post by mitzevo on September 24, 2006, 11:09 AM »
Dubbed "Torpark" and based on a portable version of Firefox 1.5.0.7, the browser will run from a USB drive so that it leaves no installation tracks on the PC.

source: InformationWeek

This sounds like some thing very useful, and well in demand in todays times.

Check this baby out: http://torpark.nfshost.com/

General Software Discussion / Re: idea for donation coder CD
« Last post by mitzevo on September 24, 2006, 09:15 AM »
and make sure you have a directory with best of best for each cat. of tools..  8), ofcourse the outcome of this cd is just gonna be a cd with a bunch of programs.. the best way to go about this kind of thing is to maintain your own list of programs that you like.. a no brainer. every one has different tastes. edit: but none the less, a DC cd would be hot  8)

The Getting Organized Experiment of 2006 / Re: keeping fit kind of tip.
« Last post by mitzevo on September 22, 2006, 10:10 PM »
Work hard, feel good, get great results.. doesn't get any simpler than this.. all the other factors are personal areas.. Do the work, and get rewarded. You can't and shouldn't expect to do nothing and get want you want when it come to fitness/exercise.. unless you purchase some of the absurd devices they have these days.. but really.. these are lazy peoples way out. What matters most is that you feel good for doing some thing hard and worth it.

edit: spelling mistake. :o

When you narrow it down basically all it is, is a job. Do the job, get your pay (in what ever form).

People work to make money, so they do the job. This happens to be a very good job (that benifits companies alot)..  and it goes on all over the place, not to mention all the techniques involved, like brainwashing.. influence... ;)

Other than that I found this topic a good 10minutes of reading =D

Living Room / Re: Dana Hanna (Software Jedi) plans to write 30 programs in 30 days
« Last post by mitzevo on September 14, 2006, 04:44 AM »
Lol, I'll believe it when I have valid proof. 30 programs in 30 days.. define program for starters.. any thing could happen..
I mean this is the internet, he might do 30 programs in 34 days and say he still done it in 30 days.. you can never tell if any thing is as real as some one is saying unless there is solid proof.. lol I know this sounds harsh but it's true. I mean, how do we know that it's all his code, not taken from any where, not borrowed from any where (unless he states that he is borrowing code, or what ever)..

Good luck to him, his entertainment will do good.

If you can avoid them, don't install an antivirus program (especially not Norton). That's not perfect advice for everyone, but if you've got an oodle of web-smarts, you should be able to spot what's bad and what's ok.

better to be safe than sorry. this is a universal fact.. haha, even experts make mistakes.. so I take this as stupid advice.

« Last post by mitzevo on September 12, 2006, 01:37 AM »
Well,

I haven't been active in the DC community for about 2 months now.. maybe 1 or 2 posts in the last month but not really as much as I would like. Reason being as I have moved some where (lol), and I now have to work and go to uni and I barely get time to be one with DC ;D.

Any way I checked my email today (Sep 12, 2006) and I see that I won a free MainType license :D.. thanks for this.. I also see I got a generous $5 donation from zridling :) thanks man! I won that soft on 29th! Didn't even know until now.. hehehee.

Once again thanks :) Many good things come to DC supporters  :-*
