except for the term "darknet" which sounds like it was taken from an old cyberpunk novel, I liked the idea of it very much.

yes it was interesting. Now I want this in my IDE :)

I use "Pen & Paper" for various reasons: it works when the computer is turned off, you can add notes offline as well as online, it has 100% accurate handwriting recognition and can easily be used by multiple users. It even supports a limited history feature: you can still read old but x-ed out notes.

Oh yeah, and pen & paper lets you add freeform graphics, but no moving or audible media. The storage format is open and well-known (for I dont know how many centuries). The backend is compatible with any input device, there cannot be a driver conflict.

On the other hand, Pen & Paper is not free.

I don't know if it seems to be a command line utility. I know it IS one.

It's just a different interface, and that might seem to make things complicated. But actually the command line interface is very straight-forward, I believe :)

http://www.imagemagi...script/composite.php might give an idea of the straight-forwardness.

It is good you reported it.

I am not a customer, and, as you said, it might still be a technical issue; however, even in case of technical issues the company should return calls and emails by its customers.

I use and recommend imagemagick

You should have kept a few leaves to show your tea dealer, they ought to be able to tell my looking, feeling, and smelling.

I know these cans from "asia shops" here in Germany as well. Usually they contain green tea, often flavored, i.e. "Jasmine Green Tea". But there can also be other teas inside.

When empty you can use them for you silverware when you have a bbq, or as a pencil holder :)

Good luck in finding your tea!

"batch" and "image" always brings me to imagemagick: http://imagemagick.org/script/index.php

I have used on several occasions and it always performed excellently. It's free, which I find good :)

I liked the article also very much. I find this rebellion very charming :-)

I know a few lock pickers in Berlin, they even have regular competitions and give workshops. Sometimes they help the police by providing "fingerprints" of tools that are used to pick locks. However, these people won't open your door when you have locked yourself out. "We open locks, but not doors" they say.

In a way, they are hackers too and I can very much relate to that :)

you guys must have superwide screens :\

I'll just copy the text and read it in my favorite text editor, there is no way I'll ever scroll sideways on a web page.

please please please do not center all the text! it makes it very hard to read.

From the PMs I received I believe it might have been TomD101. But who can really be sure with my (lack of) memory for names...

I would take their money and recommend linux, which will receive about as much vendor/technical support as windows XP.

I jsut have to say this: I wonder if c-base is mentioned as well, because that's where science from the future meets technology from the past (from science's point of view at least) :)

The number of places has a geek flair as well: 128 is 2^7.

I want even more keyboard control in a browser. I have gotten used to vimperator and I would love to be able to manage my tabs using only the keybord, i.e. "select all tabs I opened in the last 5 minutes and do something on them", "select the youngest 5 tabs", "select all tabs I opened from a specific tab and bookmark them", "store this tab's history" so I can go back later even when I have closed in the meantime...

Maybe a sort of 2/3D-view of the relationship between tabs might help when users have a lot of tabs.

Also, often I open quite a bunch of URLs remotely using my feed-reader; it would be nice if FF would stack them on top of each other, so I can view the items one after the other without having 100 open tabs. Something like invisible tabs in a group or so. Nomsayn?

Truth be told, I have switched to irssi in order to achieve my mouse-less desktop environment. It runs off the shell account my club provides its members, which makes dealing with bots a little easier.

Still, XChat is a good program and I miss some of its features: scripting in python for example...

except for the easy theming, I would recommend Drupal. Mind you, however, such a rich feature set comes at a price: complexity.

To get started quickly you could try the package from acquia which bundles drupal and load of modules.

Drupal will not be perfect. I can help a little if need be.

So you received an offer, but "they" don't even have the hardware in stock?

That doesn't surprise me at all, I think it's the usual way for "them" to make more money: They'll accept your order and money now, only to deliver the goods much later when you can get them everywhere for a better deal. So unless they really deliver the next day, I wouldn't accept such an offer.

You are asking good questions though, here is another one: Do you really need such big gear now?

Indeed I wonder if there is a keylogger with an API...

Developer's Corner / A Brief ... History of Programming Languages
« Last post by housetier on May 08, 2009, 07:55 PM »
Here is another attempt at explaining the history of programming languages:

1801 - Joseph Marie Jacquard uses punch cards to instruct a loom to weave "hello, world" into a tapestry.

Very insightful!  8)
