Surely the programs to do this exist, so this post is more of a request for suggestions.

JVM.dll is not loading for a particular program.  I'm wondering if that program is barking up the wrong tree.  So I'd like to rename all JVM.dll files to JVM.dll (bak) -- except, that is, for the JVM.dll that the program SHOULD be trying to load.

Suggestions appreciated.

I'm not going to ask for the following, but it logically seems a next step, just for some future possibility:

In Append, a drop-down menu of, say, the past few files which have been appended to.

Right now, Cliptrap remembers the last file appended to.  Which is fantastic.

But if the past five files could be remembered, and offered in a drop-down menu when the Append button is pressed, when user is cruising around doing research, and comes across something to add to the previous file, or four files ago, easy to click on that file in the drop-down menu, and add to that one.

In this way, several sets of research can be easily added to concurrently.

As I say, not asking for this.  Just an idea.

As Cliptrap presently stands seems to perfectly meet my needs.

Append works great, Skwire.  Huge and really useful addition to your Cliptrap program.  Thanks very much!

I realized the problem with overwrite....  Must include the extension with the name of the file.  Sometimes (not sure exactly when or why) all that's necessary to save a file is just the filename, and, say, .txt, is automatically added.  Well, if only filename is given, Cliptrap will overwrite the saved file that includes the extension.

So, when saving a file from Cliptrap, very important to type in the filename + the extension.  Then if such file already exists, Cliptrap will give a warning about overwriting.

Same result on a different computer.  No warning at all.  Simply overwrote.

Very strange you get a warning.  I tried twice and didn't get one.

As said, ClipTrap simply silently overwrote the original, and replaced.  Poof.

How about the "Append to file" possibility?

Further request:

Upon save, if file exists, offer to append or replace, with default being to append.

As of right now ClipTrap overwrites an existing file without any notice.  Poof.  All the previous clippings saved vanish and are substituted with a new set.  User ought to at least get a warning.

By the way, with append (to existing file), I can see the usefulness of including your "Enable timestamp tokens," which I've not thought about using before.

Enhancement Request:

Skwire, please allow for the inclusion of default name in the "Save text as" box.

Have the name automatically populate the box.

Best if user can pre-select it, and that pre-selection saved in the .ini configurations file.

But, if not, then something like "ClipTrapped.txt."

Thanks!

Locate32 seems a great program.  It's the one I use for indexing everything I have on all internal drives, on external USB drives, and on my little network.  Not for content, though.  Just file names.

If anyone knows of a better basic indexing program I'd like to hear about it.

410

Yep.  That would be the traditional XP way of selecting by file type.

However, it's way easier being able to use wildcards, as FileMenuTools purports to being able to do.

I did find a useful solution that exists for everyone without an extra needed program, that should have been pretty obvious, but I hadn't thought of it before writing here:

-- Use Windows SEARCH, and put the wildcards, extension in there.

Sooo, Skwire, if no one has anything else to add to the discussion, maybe this one is done.

Finished Programs / SOLVED: In Windows Explorer, Select Files By File Extension
« Last post by nkormanik on October 16, 2012, 07:23 PM »

In Windows XP, does anyone know of a plug-in by which user can select files by extension?  The plug-in can be added to context menu, tool bar, or some other way.

I tried FileMenuTools, but for some reason, although claiming it does this, it doesn't actually work.

If no such plug-in exists, or cannot be created, can anyone suggest an alternative to Explorer which works to accomplish the task?

Thanks!

By the way, I've noticed that when ClipTrap saves text to a file..., there is some added semi-invisible code at the very beginning of the created file.  Said code prevents a regular text editor from editing the text file.

In a more powerful text editor this is how the code appears:

Somehow it would be best to prevent that code from making it into the newly created text file.

Thanks!

At the very least, have ClipTrap remember the previously used file name.

In addition to the previous suggestion, here's another:

To the right of the nice large "Save text" button..., add "Append text"

When user clicks on "Append text" button, a little window comes up remembering last saved location AND the last used file name.  Last used File name is populating the proper space where file name usually goes.

Click okay, and presto, window contents are appended to that file.

Clear the ClipTrap window, exit, all done.

Just my own personal opinion, but...

I think the "Save text" feature is so important that it warrants a larger button, same size as the "Scroll to top" and "Scroll to bottom" buttons.  With text.  And I think it should be placed to the right of "Append clips to..."

You know me -- always wanting more.

Really nice addition to a terrific program, Skwire.  Thank you!

Makes getting copied content safely saved away into a text file so much faster.

Glad you decided to have ClipTrap remember the last directory where things are saved, and use that as default presently.  No need to fiddle around searching for the right place.

Just a thought, then:

"Execute Default Script" button.

Perhaps user has the opportunity to put a number of sequential steps into the .ini file.

That way it can be a custom-made thing, because different users probably would want to be able to rapidly do different things.

The key is to make it as easy as possible to get ClipTrap contents into a file, and to exit.

In and out.  Job accomplished.

Preferably in the .ini file you can keep track of the preferred path in which to save the file.  Maybe even a default file name.

Very cool.

Enhancement Request:

Add button in top region, "Send All To Text File, Clear Window Text, Then Exit."

Window pops up asking for name of file.

Presto, all done.

Thanks for asking.  Just the PC.

Old timer.  Still Windows XP.  Big ol' traditional monitors -- but 1600x1200 res.
421

Another possible project, which I could use, for one.

Metronome Timer.  User adjustable tones per minute.  Countdown timer.

Purpose of project:  Speed reading practice.  Eye-movement pacing.

There are plenty of metronomes out there.  But not what I need.

From my standpoint what's crucial is:

-- Small and simple.  (preferably 250 pixels wide or less)

-- Remembers where it is being opened and run on desktop.  Reopens in exactly that same place.  (say, upper right-hand corner)

-- Remembers amount of time to start counting down.  (say, 10 minutes)

-- Remembers number of tones per minute user wants.  (say, 120)

-- Can start sounding and counting down immediately upon execution.  (no need to even press Start)

-- Gives some obvious indication when time is finished.  (perhaps a long tone)

Enhancement possibilities:

-- User-selectable color scheme.  (not too distracting)

-- User-adjustable tone signals.  (higher or lower, maybe specific like 440 Hz)

The idea is to fire up the ebook reader, double-click MetroTimer, and read, read, read....

Thanks!

Will send link by PM to one of those file-sharing sites.  Resulting file was too large to send by email.

Using Skwire's Zero Zipper, and letting it keep running while I went to bed:

ContourPlots.zip = 206 mb

I recompressed into .rar format, best compression:

ContourPlots.rar = 80 mb

Hope the file helps with whatever you want to attempt.
