You are right that you certainly can't start with the Win7 drive as E: and later transistion it to C: without breaking things.

What should be possible though, if you're using separate drive, is to disconnect the XP when installing Win7. Then Win7 should refer to the one it's on as C. When you later connect back the XP drive it should get a label like E: from Win7 and not mess up anything.

I'm not sure if you're working with different partitions on the one drive?

Interesting stuff. I'm pretty happy with Win7 so seeing it as the main OS for a bit longer seems like a good thing.

True, my current phone with the 480x800 res is perfectly good, in fact it's fantastic. But still, I feel like an upgrade would be difficult to justify if it doesn't have the best screen.

BTW, screen resolution, and in particular, pixel pitch, are my vices. I don't have the same hangups in terms of wanting the best of the best in other features.

Screen resolution 800 × 480 (exactly)

I hope that increases to iPhone 4 resolutions soon because I won't be upgrading my phone until a non Apple product gets that resolution.

I'm sure though Apple want to manage the copy protection themselves, and that's why they're disallowing 3rd party solutions. I don't think that is an insane idea, but I don't like it myself either. Of couse I also hate DRM, some maybe banning it is a good thing?

As for presenting a license, I'm kinda with them on this one in that no one ever reads those things anyway + it's dubious if they'd ever really stand up in court. On the otherhand, if software is free I think it's very important that developers can clearly state
The software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose... etc

There's a big difference between SQL Server going belly up and costing your business a fortune, versus MySQL doing so. And that difference is based around wether the supplier is for or non-profit. Companies shouldn't be able to "shirk-wrap agreement" themselves out of responsibility.

Conditions 2.16 & 2.17 are what raise alarm bells in my mind. Seem like the first step in another walled garden.

Though as I said before, I don't believe Apple could succeed in locking out 3rd party sources of applications. I'd probably like to see them try however, it'd be nice to see the fanboi reactions.

"Oh wah-ha-ha-ha" from Disturbed's "Down With The Sickness" as sms-tone

Fantastic, though the bit towards the end: "No mommy, don't do it again..." would have been a great way to turn heads in public :D

Regarding read reports? I don't think it's a feature here in Ireland, but on any phone I've had, I seen the option only for MMS messages, not SMS. Does it work for regular SMS messages in other countries?

I found Zenwalk to be the best distro for my 700Mhz PIII with 128mb ram, the laptop came with Win2k, and struggled with XP. A quick check of the site shows it still holds true to those principles, and it's looks super slick.

These days though I run Ubuntu on newer machines myself.

Almost the best thing one can do is point you to sources of them. For email The Gimp has a fantastic gallery of raster effects, including those you mentioned. Inkscape on the otherhand has most of the same one but in a vector graphics context.

Needless the say Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator probably offer the same and maybe more?

There is no way MS, Adobe or any of the producer for big expensive graphics and music production applications are going to pay Steve 30% per purchase. However without those applications the Mac is a dead duck. So 3rd party program suppliers will always have to be available.

Of course Steve would love if everyone did pay him 30%, but in this case he won't get it.

I wonder will developers with an app in the store also be allowed to sell it through other channels, without the 42% markup in price?

Stoic Joker, I agree that text messages lose so much emotion. That said, I think most people don't replace face-to-face communication with texts, rather they augment it.

I treated myself :) to a HTC HD2 about a year ago and I've been using the Swype keyboard on it. It's a really cool way to type on a touchscreen.

Two things renegade,

1) If you go to the source of the stats, its send and receiving. Given that most people reply (you won't get texts if you don't send them) I say the number sent is half that. Although, girls actually averaged 4000+, so that's still about 2000 sent a month!

2) Alot of text would be going on during school, even during class. So the uptime is probably 2 or 3 hours higher.

Still the numbers shock me to the extent that I too find them hard to believe. And as you say it's an average, I really wonder what rates the more extreme texters are achieving.

He does touch on the problem being also related to the combination of sugar and other carbohydrates (mentions doughnuts) which could explain the 'success' of Eóin's Coke only diet. I remember years ago an aquaintance going on a mars-bars only diet (I think it was a fad for a while) - I cant remember how long it lasted - she lost weight but one day she collapsed and gave up mars bars after that :-)

My logic was just about counting calories. For example a can of coke is only about 140 calories which is the same as maybe two biscuits, but for me at least the coke is much more filling. That said I know I was taking in too much sugar, plus I probably got hooked on the stuff :-[ Nonetheless it's surprising just how little calories there is in coke, certainly less than much other, non-diet, sodas and juice drinks.

I went on a diet once and replaced food with Coke (not diet) ~ 2 liters a day, surprisingly it worked.

There's nothing beautiful about constantly texting forgettable phrases back and forth for the rest of your life.  but it sure is efficient...I suppose.

If you're talking inane status updates or comments on Facebook or Twitter, well I completely agree. But people who are constantly glued to their phones texting friends and family are doing as good a job of socializing as everyone else, assuming you also see those friends and family an odd time.

Sure you don't want to miss the real world, but for most humans, after survival, socializing is the biggest part of real world. Who's to say that's wrong.

Also where's the publicity in having your app rejected because because it violates some arbitrary condition imposed by Apple to protect their interests, and not devices owner.

It wasn't so grim 5 years ago, developers have been able to write Java apps for phones for close to, but probably not quite, the last 10 or so. PDAs with OSes you could program for openly were around long before that. My gripe with the 'app store' concept is that there's only one store, it's controlled by one authority, and it's the only way to install software on your device. If we had a choice of different stores, I'd think the whole idea of them is fantastic.
