I do not know much about the page, but you are right, but Markham has put work there to be sure, as I have been working on the Wikidot page.

Videos are coming, via Youtube and Vimeo (I finally got their permission to proceed..Yea!!!)

Screen shots will not be an issue in the near future.
I am working on a whole slew of them when time presents itself

The Redmine????

I have been advertising this as well for the code site, so there are those that will pay attention to it!

I have an account through Download.com that I use for Rainmeter as a developer, I can get CD in as well takes about a week for approval

The only other option I can immediately think of is Mediafire, kind of a pain, but tracking, free, ad supported, and No limits on anything

Let me do some homework

I have space on my Office live account....I would not have a way to track the DL Numbers, but can track page visits.

I would just offer up the DL Link

Just a consideration.

I will probably re-institute the Donation button at the Wikidot, and see if we get any bites and a bank roll going

I am of somewhat mixed feelings regarding this.

I have been running a push...I am up to 30+ sites now and am looking to have placed to other sites (will discuss needed stuff with Markham Later)
The LifeHacker is a huge push, but I would not have expected more that 50,000 to 55,000 dl's from this.
Most of these other sites are smaller sites, and I am gauging response. Before the big push

Mouser did say at one time that CD was only second to F.A.R.R.
And I have yet to start the big push to DevArt, as I have been attempting to stem a flow that I know will come to the forums.

I am making a simple comparison here, and although there is a larger call for Docks/Launchers than Desktop System Monitoring tools.
It still took Rainmeter 5+ Months before we broke our first 1,000,000 download

The numbers may be correct taking in that time line, but that just scares the devil out of me.

Google Code site makes this easy to track (with third party DL site exceptions), so I am do not know exactly how to feel.

I will reserve judgment......
I do not know if I can take any kind of credit for that type of return  :-[
The one thing I know for sure....I am getting some of the damnedest comments so I know the interest in CD is active once again.

On a final Note.....Rainmeter is downloaded in several Asian countries and central arid countries more than anywhere else.
So atleast that correlates

sure deal...here you go:

Applet/Docklet and instructions at the page

Have fun

I am concerned along teh same lines as you in regards to server load...

A Random Button, that just loads a random older post
An "I;m Feeling Lucky" attached to search

These are relatively easy

A full end customized search page with a lot of filter options and command entries to the search box.
Coding would be fun, but not only the load factor on the server, but also the system "Fart" factor if there is no search Limiter.
ie. Something that will return either the least active, or most active posts.
No limitations on the search (In a custom search) may also take time to return values (again; the load factor)

Gothi[c] is right in program timing (Rome, a day, and all that)
So maybe an "I'm Feeling lucky " button for search Parameters, and a "Random Thread" Button to start (???)
412
It's all good
413
Perhaps it could be somewhat user defined.  For example, if I want to always exclude a certain topic (say the programming schools for example), then I could set it to exclude that.  For many threads, it doesn't get visited because it is not something most are interested in.  Ideally, the way I would want to see it is each person has a weighting scheme attached for each broad area of the forum.  They can then change the weights so some areas pop up more often, and some don't pop up at all.  So I could set, for example, the Living Room to show old threads 40% of the time, Reviews 30% of the time, Coding Snacks 10% of the time, and DC Website Help 20%.  Then I could set the rest to 0% and ensure I only see old threads that I would deem generally relevant to what I was interested in.  Just a thought....

I see what you are suggesting, and being the forum admin for Rainmeter...you have actually given me a shutter.
Something like this may actually require individual Options, and calls to the DB.

Granted my experience is limited, but I instantly see two options regarding the concept.
1.) An attached options page to each users account (Nightmarish)
2.) Something similar to a search page, with filters and a search box that can also handle additional command line type exceptions that will query the DB.
Do-able: Yes....Now do you want to program it  :tellme:

Understanding the program concept and the calls that will be made to the DB to produce the results....I like Mousers Idea better.

Of course I suspect (Correctly I believe) that Gothi[c] has way more experience than I and this may be less complicated to his eyes than mine
414
Yes:
Your thoughts are an expansion on the concept (I like it), but yes.

I guess kind of like the StumbleUpon addon for Firefox  :P
Sometimes you do get something interesting

Greetings Gothic & Mouser

Something we are looking at coding for the Rainmeter forum is a simple Random type button to add to the menu bar.
This would target certain forum threads (ie. Tips and trick) then return a random posting.

This will keep certain ideas fresh and/or updated.

We have also considered targeting the recorded dates from the DB, anything older than 4 months may also be part of the Random function.
Of course for us...4 months is a long time and we are still relatively new to the Game.

I am thinking this is a great idea, especially here, as DC has been around for a long time, and there are literally thousands of posts.
We are unsure about doing this for ourselves at this point, as we are fishing our threads and deleting irrelevant information at this time.

But here it may even produce just a trip down memory lane.

It is part of the thinking: Bored??? Press here!

After several Months, and a lot of harassment, I have received a private communique from Radu Sebastian Lazin.
I have explained, to the best of my ability, what we are looking for.

I await his response.

Circle Dock / Re: Start CircleDock via Desktop Context Menu?
« Last post by sgtevmckay on January 25, 2010, 11:29 AM »
Mark:

How difficult would it be to add command line arguments/instruction; Similar to Foobar and Winamp???

Example:
Address
Command

C:/Circledock.exe/ Toggle Appearance

There are entire lists of items in Foobar and Winamp that can be activated in this manner.
I am unaware of the programming issues, but this may also make for an alternative...

I could come up with a list of goodies I would like to see, but unaware of the entire scope!
BUT....In conjunction with Autohotkey and other scripting tools, it would then make Various access interface a lot more accessible.
Also: Combined with third party tools (ie: Fast Explorer) a context menu shortcut could then be created with easy.

Greetings sir.

Unfortunately this concept was rejected

Quote from Markham:
Whilst this may seem a neat feature, it isn't going to happen, for technical reasons: you can not get an external program, such as "Explorer" (which controls the Desktop") to toggle the visibility (or any other setting) of a running application.

Full information here:
http://redmine.dcmembers.com/issues/65

That being said.
There is still options for keyboard hotkey usage.

If you have any questions, please let me know  ;)

Circle Dock / Re: CircleDock Featured on LifeHacker Today
« Last post by sgtevmckay on January 24, 2010, 01:39 PM »
Listen my friend:
LifeHacker can turn into one huge flame war quickly and more often than not I have found knockers and no supporters.
We did extremely well, and as with Rainmeter articles, I am there every step of the way.
I have been lauded for the assistance I render at the lifeHacker postings, so this helps, and since flamers and knockers know that there is a software rep: Things go a little differently  >:D

I learned a long time ago not even to try and impress everyone.
Circle Dock is not for everyone, and that's ok  ;)

Yes there are many user, but Circle Dock is now your fun, and you do not have to impress anyone, but yourself.
The folks that will use it, we will find some of them here.
Something to keep in mind is how few posts we have received since the release of v1.0....That speaks volumes.

The requests may come in, and it is up to you as to whether or not they are accepted
You have Fun, and we will have fun with you  ;)

I will send along an e-mail to Jason and get you accepted as a LifeHacker commentator...it will take a bit, but that is the way of things.

All the work you have done and continue to do...I am nothing but amazed.
Thanks again

Greetings dkazaz
Welcome to DonationCoder.com and Circle Dock's little portion.  :)

I have submitted as Feature #65
It can be tracked here:
http://redmine.dcmembers.com/issues/65

I note that this functionality will be limited, as the context menu (say in Firefox) is different from Windows and so forth, so teh functinality would not be available all the time.
I would let Markham confirm this, but it just makes sense at first glance  :-[

Let us know if you have any more great concepts

not sure if this falls under docklets... but maybe support for animated icons? I think this might of been mentioned before, but I was wondering if it was possible. not sure what kind of file would have transparency though....

or perhaps mouseover animations...
-Archon of Fate (January 23, 2010, 12:57 AM)

Unfortunately this is a docklet.
Created by a winmatrix member several years ago.
We will have to wait for docklet compatibility for this one

Additional note here:
This may help to over come the installed on D:/ and not running application in G:/ (???)
This was a common problem going back  the original designer's build.

Although I promised to try and see what happens, and do a report...I have yet had the appropriate time.

I have a couple of projects to finish today and tomorrow, and I will do a few remote HDD installs and see what I get.....I hope

No

Not at all
Circle Dock is not currently platform dependent, so this will make no difference what-so-ever.
As long as you have .Net 2.0 or higher, you are good to go  ;)
