to use method at your link I have to minimize all windows
It's not conviniant for me ;) too slow...

Too slow to press Windows-D and then click.

If you're life is so packed you need to shave seconds off of a shut down I say, try the decaf  :)
402
Isn't it dangerous to have Windows shut down with a single keypress?  Seems like you could accidentally shut down when you didn't want to.

Also, couldn't you just add a Desktop Shortcut to shut down Windows?

I realize this is not PAD-specific, but isn't AnalogX's SoftSubmit relevant?

Probably not anymore.  Too old

@Veign, I'll likely contact you in a few months about your PAD post there. ;)

Cheers!

Anytime.  I run a very large PAD Database repository at PadDatabase.com and even wrote my own custom PAD Processing class (PHP).

You'd be surprised at how far the members of this forum reach.

(also, I'm not a member of the ASP just watch their public newgroups because of my interest in the PAD spec)

Set a default groupname in the [setup] section like:
DefaultGroupName=MyCompany\MyApplication

Then in the [icons] section place:
Name: {group}\MyApplication; Filename: {app}\MyApp.exe
Name: {group}\Help; Filename: {app}\MyHelp.chm
Name: {group}\Uninstall; Filename: {uninstallexe}

Also, you should be asking the user if they want the icons placed on the desktop and quicklaunch bar and not do it by default.  Give the user the option.

That is great that your daughter has interest in programming.  Get her started in some fun projects and once she completes the first one I'm sure she will be hooked for life.

Let us know the grade she receives on the project...

Name:
Chris Hanscom
(better known as Veign)

Title of job or position held:
Web Developer / Owner of Veign
http://www.veign.com

How long have u done this job:
6 years

How did u become interested in this field:
A requirement came up in a company I was working to start developing some VBA macros.  The macros turned into a standalone application and I've never looked back.  During the course of really developing the company that Veign would be I focused on website design and development

What is yur favorite and least favorite part of this job:
Favorite part is the feeling that everything I do is solving a puzzle.  Plus there is something cool about see the process of turning cryptic words on a screen into a functioning application that can make a difference to someone.

There is no worst part.  A programmer has to have a passion for the development world that far exceeds their job.  Since this is my job, my passion and my hobby there is nothing I don't like.

I get excited from success, learn from failure, and become better with each bug that is found in my code.

What kind of training or education have u had for this field:
None.  Self taught.

What is the future outlook for this field?:
Tremendous growth that will touch every aspect of a persons life.  Web and mobile applications will do nothing but grow and become an even more invaluable resource to people.

How many hours (or days) do u spend working each week:
7 days a week no less than 12 hours a day.  If I'm not working in the business, I'm working on the business or learning and trying to advance my skillset.

Maybe an option is to start a thread with the questions posted and see who chimes in.  Then let people post their responses to the questions.

I'm not sure why I would search microsoft or amazon through google instead of going to the site and using the site's own search - which usually has structured search adapted to that site's content and is going to be better.

Because Microsoft's internal search is horrible at locating its own information.  Google does a much better job.

But then I dont believe in google's pagerank when searching for specific professional/technical/specialised information - what's popular is often not what i want.

PageRank has nothing to do with the SERP results in Google.  This is an often misconception.

I think the concept is quite interesting.   Due to time constraints the only role I would be able to take is participant.

If you read my blog you would have heard about it last week:

Go and grab a Template here:
http://www.templatew.../free_templates.html

They are very professional looking and would work great to 'test' an idea.  Even though I design websites for a living I grabbed a template here to put together a website in a couple hours to test something (wanted a nice face on the idea).
413
I doubt anyone would do that through this forum since that would be in violation of the MS EULA on the driver.

I will be 80 this year.  dessa

Wow.  That is the coolest thing.  I must say I haven't met too many 80 year olds that are programming a website.

You server may be Angelfire - you may want to contact them or check with them to see what they support for your hosting account.

First, calling me Veign is perfectly fine as many people know me as Veign.

Second, I'm still a bit confused on what you are trying to do.

Third, your server is saying its a Squeegit/1.2.5 server (as seen through Page Headers) which I have never heard of.  Based on that I'm really not sure what your options are.

Do you have an existing webpage where you want this functionality.  My quick thoughts are to have the form post to a PHP processing page that does nothing but take the input from the HTML form and provide a redirect.

What I am confused about is why someone would use a form to get to the pictures if a direct URL can just be issued to them.  Is this supposed to be secure - meaning one user can't see another users pictures?

Online tool:
http://www.zubrag.co...ml-tags-stripper.php

Probably uses a PHP function:
http://us2.php.net/strip-tags
(I bet some could write a batch upload tool for this - would probably take me an hour and if I had time I would do it)

Possibly automate with HTML Tidy:

Macs dont have Arial so I dont know what happens there...prob gets replaced by courier think that's their default font or maybe depends on browser.

What you do is define a font-family where if one font is not available another is the list is selected.
like:
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana;

Just add this to your CSS stylesheet in the body tag like:
body {
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana; }

CSS:

PHP / Re: PHP Desinging
« Last post by Veign on February 28, 2008, 09:31 AM »
This depends on your php configuration. If you are running on a shard host, there are typically some limits on file-upload-size (often 8MB max) and script runtimes. If your SQL Export ist bigger than your limit, you have to split it in seperate files.

To get around the limit I use BigDump.  Works great - at least on the 50+Meg import script that I run through it.

Anything else I should add/change/do?

Yeah, remove that font.  Its way to hard to read and non-standard.  Don't use images for text.  Stick with actual text in the proper tags.  In your case an H1 followed by a P

WinXP SP3 has not been released yet.  Its only in RC releases.  Are you sure you got it from Windows Update.  MS won't push an OS SP to Windows update until some period of time after an RTM release.
