General Software Discussion / Looking for LetmeType alike
« Last post by kartal on May 08, 2009, 10:05 PM »
Hi

I love LetmeType is awesome but the only problem is that it does not have export feature. I was wondering if there are any apps that gets close to LMT as far as learning and efficiency skills go. I tried Phrase Express but I did not think that it was learning anything at all. It is ok for predefined stuff but LMT just rocks all the way up.

Any suggestions? (freeware, shareware...)

I wonder how much time man kind has lost in total when people are forced spend time to decipher some text and put it in a box?

I personally do not think that any form of crapware, spyware can be called quality stuff , no matter what they are offering. If there is a string attach you just need to stay away. there is a reason why those strings are there and you might not truely understand where those strings are going really.

And it looks like downloads are done through sourceforge servers. How honest is that?

On the otherhand, how much money do you think they are going to make from attaching spyware? Really I am curios to hear about it. Is it worth wracking people`s trust? I mean how much money we are talking about it? I ever doubt if the developer makes more than couple hundred dollars a month with such spyware.

Personally, I don't see the problem with this or any of the other programs that do this. These guys are offering quality programs for free. If some want to support them by installing the toolbars,

I understand that people want incentive for ther effors, that is fine but if business model is not working you need to stop working on it. Some people think that this is a good way to benefit developers but I disagree. If you start a business you have something in mind, if you end up not making the money you want and start loosing money you basically shutdown your business. Tricking people to make money is not good business no matter what your intention is.

PDFforge has used popularity of pdf creator and trustworthiness of open source applications.  I believe this was an abusive and mean act. Noone is asking the developer to develope stuff, he could have just stopped it instead of fillling with crapware. Now instead of being remembered as the great developer of Pdf creator he will be remembered as as a crapware distributor, although I assume that they are the same people. I might as well be wrong.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will give a try.

mouser I have quite a bit of aliases so I have decided to create group blocks, meaning that I would call a list(similar aliases) of aliases by a master alias first. That was my main goal.

410
Hmm, I am not seeing anything impressive that would let me spend money really on that list. As far as I can tell Pdf creator can do most of it. ALthough I would not suggest you to use latest versions Pdf creator because it if filled with some spyware, search toolbar crap.

Find And Run Robot / dosearch only shows the first line
« Last post by kartal on May 07, 2009, 10:38 PM »
Hi

I have setup an alias that shows other aliases, kind of like grouping them. So I am using do search to make searches based names of other aliases.

This is the kind of structure I have

searchword
(no regex)
dosearch searchpic
dosearch search music

The problem is that Farr only shows me the first line. I have like 8 lines none of them are showing up in the list except 1st one when I invoke "searchword"

skajfes, your calendar does not work anymore. I am not sure why it is not working. I have gotten couple Farr updates since then. Would there be any issues with latest Farr version(v2.56.02)?
414
Hmm I did not know that, that is for sure I will check it out. I have been an happy Xyplorer customer, but I can entertain a good dualpaner as well.

The beta did not sort folders based on date, is this a bug? Ideas?

I guess what I am looking for is an editor that would let me color things freely+based on rules(would let mixed style). The rules should be permanent as most Text editor can do but temporary selections or colorings does not need to be saved with the file since this wouldnot be possible with programming editors.  It just helps to be able to select some sentence or block and color it temporarily, in my case it increases readability. I can use word processing for that but then this is like back and forth between applciations which renders unusable for me.

A I said rule based highlighting coloring is good but it does not let me change things on the fly. For example if I select Python syntax highlighting, I need to stick that if I want to change any color, I need to edit the original Python sytax doc to achieve what I want, whcih is not the way I would like to deal with.

So what you have up there looks like something I can benefit from.

417
tinjaw, I have been avoiding regex for a while but I think the time has come. Vim also supports Regex. Someone in the topic mentioned Editpad pro`s syntax regex editor. I have not checked it out but it look pretty good indeed.

The main problem with syntax highlight stuff is that once you have a template you cannot change the colors, you need to edit the template so it is not really that flexible approach.
418
Hmm thanks guys but I do not think my main request is well understood. I am not looking for a text editor that can do syntax highlighting. I am looking for an application or text editor that can process text and create semantic blocks that are represented by colors. Syntax highlighting is a very primitive form of what I am talking  about because it is just based on simple word recognition rules. It just colors when there is   a match. I am looking for something that can do and play with color in a more experimental way.

Btw I have been using Pspad for long time, I like it but as I said it cannot do what I am looking for as far as I can tell.

I am hoping that VIM will replace all my editors in the end because it is more extensible than anything on the list plus it has a nice scripting language.

It seems to work under 64bit?

Hi

I do not think it is working properly under xp64, I am getting very veyr mixed results?

ivery, my main tools are Eclipse and Vim at the moment. Personally I do not need to dissect files like that so anything that is better than notepad is good for me :)

Just curious since I have never tried Vim with big files. Have you tested Vim or Emacs for your needs?

I think Zeus is a general purpose text editor with programming slant, I do not think it is supposed to load 1.5 gb file.  I am not sure if anyone ever written a 1.5gb code in one single text file.

ivery, just curious what kind of field are you in? Are you dealing with huge hex files, database files?

Thanks I will try.

The main reason I want to go with chm reader path rather than FF is ICONS. All the ff icons look same in the task bar so it is hard to distinguish what is what, on the other hand I can spot a chm reader very easily. Considering thay I generally have 30 windows open at least this is a big deal for me.
