General Software Discussion / Re: Launchy is now available for Linux (!)

BUMP...

Yeah, what Armando said...

I bought an Asus Eee recently and installed Ubuntu on it. Liking it much so far, but Gnome-Do is nowhere near FARR and FARR is essential when using Windows.

Anyone by any chance know of a linux equivalent of PowerMarks? Maybe something that's even compatible (longshot, I know)...

The Getting Organized Experiment of 2007 / Re: New Getting Organized Experiment?
« Last post by TucknDar on October 10, 2008, 01:28 PM »
I have some ideas for this.

Maybe we could focus on specifics like email, or (physical) desktop or something.

I think it's a good idea to focus on specifics, but it should be up to each participant which specifics that should be. For instance, email or my physical desktop are pretty much the only things that I don't consider a mess... ok, a bit of an overstatement, but you get the idea ;)

A better idea, IMHO, would be for each participant to publicly list which specifics he/she would like to focus on and maybe make regular posts about the progress. How often? I don't know, but let's say an update every week or so. Obviously you're not responsible for this to anyone but yourself, but I imagine that for me at least, it would be an extra incentive to get things done if I'll have reveal my progress. It's not too cool seeing everyone else making huge strides towards getting organized if I still can't get anything done. This way, we can also give each other tips and ideas along the way.

The Eee or the malware? :p

I'm very happy with my Eee 901 so far at least! Use it for note-taking and surfing mainly.

f0dder: Thanks, yes, XFCE appeals to me more than KDE or Gnome, but there's a special Ubuntu-eee that already includes Gnome, so I'll go for that at first, then see if I'll switch to XFCE later on.

Fun cartoon, but I've been thinking something similar about Linux, TBH. There are so many distros and even several desktop environments with tailor made software(right?).... Looks like I'll be getting a tiny Asus EEE one of these days, and I'll probably put Ubuntu on it, but maybe one of the other n distros are actually better for me? I should report in a few days

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: New plugin: FARR Remember The Milk 0.1.0
« Last post by TucknDar on September 30, 2008, 12:41 AM »
Actually, you don't need to Quit FARR. Just type 'goreload' (a message box appears, don't click yet) then delete FarrRMilk dir and unzip the new FarrMilk to Plugins/FarrMilk dir, and click OK in the FARR message box. VoilĂ !

Btw, phitsc, new version seems to work just fine :)

Just wanted to say that this is an amazing plugin! I haven't really taken full advantage of RTM yet, so not really used the plugin much, but first impressions are

Only problem is that you've set a tough standard for other plugin writers :P

Also some alternatives listed for the software would be a great little addition. Something like mouser lists in the help files for his apps.

I didn't get a system going, only got some ideas that I never managed to develop any further. So when I get the time ( ::) ) I'll come up with some ideas for a new GOE...

How about, instead of a lengthy review, a list of links to other reviews? IIRC SFFS was mini-reviewed on DC, so a link to that would be very helpful for anyone wanting a more thorough review.

I'm more of a fan of the way your list looks to be heading, a short description with some personal observations, but again som links to other reviews would be great!

The Getting Organized Experiment of 2007 / New Getting Organized Experiment?
« Last post by TucknDar on September 24, 2008, 01:34 AM »
Have anyone thought of starting a new GOE? I personally needs Getting Organized more than ever, and although I've progressed a few small steps, I could definitely use the extra motivation that a DC GOE would give.

Or is Getting Organized already mission:Accomplished for you all?!?

GOE 2008? GOE 2009? GOE Winter 08-09? Anyone else thought of this?

TucknDar is of course totally wrong, regarding WordPad: Every text based program in the world can read a file created by WordPad. Therefore it is just about the most useFUL app on your PC, next to Notepad.
So the fact that every text based program can read files created in WordPad makes it the most useful app? That argument doesn't make any sense to me... AFAIK pretty much every image program can open a bitmap created in MSPaint, so that makes it the most useful app on my PC next to Notepad and Wordpad? Now if WordPad could read files created in "every text based program" I would probably be of another opinion ;)

I still think Wordpad is useless. It's not as simple as Notepad and not as powerful as Word (or OOO.org, TextMaker, etc.) so basically it's not useful for any purposes, IMO. How often do you use WordPad?

Wordpad must be the most useless app in Windows. There, a completely useless remark, but I just felt like it. 8)

Thanks, 40hz! I'll take a look at Clonezilla. I've considered Acronis, but hoping to find something that's free...

Ok, so beeing a Necromancer here, but is anyone using SelfImage actively? It hasn't been updated since this thread was started, so either it's working just as it should be or it's just been abandoned...

I'd like to hear if anyone has any experiences using this to restore an image :feedback:

Power Favorites certainly shows some potential, although like superboyac I'd like to see it work just like PowerMarks ;) Especially the quick add bookmark (no questions asked) is very useful.

Also, one thing quite annoyed me: Even though the setting Run at startup was unticked, it started with Windows for All Users!  I'm running XP Home sp2 if that matters.

Edit: One more thing, what is the "Install Opera Addon" supposed to do? I tried it, but I don't notice anything different. Is it supposed to install a menu entry? Btw, I tried installing it both with Opera running and after closing it, so that's tried and tested.

Another thing, the help file is very limited. Doesn't even say the right name of the product and there's no search function.
