Be happy, don't worry

What do you think about .... ?

http://www.kls-soft....p/feature_matrix.php

I thought you were looking for free?
If you are willing/able to spend money, I think you would be getting different recommendations...

I'd say try Syncovery (Super Flexible File Synchronizer) @ €50 for the Pro version in the EU http://www.syncovery.com/matrix/
Solid as a rock; runs as a service; my only complaint is too many options ... (yes, it can be a problem).

What's their business model?

Was wondering the same.

(Been using them myself for over a year, and https://startpage.com as well - for about 95% of my search between them)

if I am currently logged into both YT and google (gmail etc) - I cannot [g+] anything - it tries to get me to open a real name account - in spite of having my g+ homepage open in the same browser.

That's with a G+ account in my YT name.

Now I see that, even if I'm logged out of my gmail/ close all gmail tabs - I still cant G+ anything - I *always* get directed towards opening a g+ account in my real name.
[G+ hate builds... it's a pity, I much prefer it to FB]

[queries numbered in brackets]

Not sure how you imagine it but "The software would be a combination of Evernote + a todo list + related file explorer" sounds promising  Tagging and filtering to show the relevant info sounds good.
[1] With hierarchical tagging? (I've never used Evernote online, dont know what it has/does).

I tend to be a bit of a chaotic worker, but this seems like it would cover all the things I need to do. I work with many files, get a lot of feedback with requests for modifications. Working with information from other people, I have many queries too. So the communication aspect would be very important to me. Priority ordering of queries in both directions. Ability to sort according to ones I have to answer, & ones they have to answer (that should be easy with tags).
So, for me, the inbox -- as in "capture informal requests, ideas and suggestions" -- would be ongoing throughout a project.
ToDo would also therefore be an evolving process as project continues.
In a bigger project, reviews would be done at different times/phases.

I'm sure you've thought of this, but above was just to point out that 0, 1, 2 & 3 could all be happening at around the same time on an ongoing basis (or e.g. within the same day).
[2] Which shouldnt be a problem (?)

[3] Re the file explorer - do you mean you would create your own file explorer within the app? (Easy access to same file or folder in default file manager would be important.)

Dont know will you get what you want free (run as a service).
I use Snycovery (SFFS) myself, but that costs.

Have you looked at this:
FreeFileSync - automated backup - Mini-Review
(Have set it up for others but dont use it myself.)

By the name sounds like a type syncfile backup system.

I need a file based backup like cobian backup.
Is not sync like SyncBackFree.
 :-*
I'll a look nevertheless

Does incremental backup - is that what you mean?

Important to note the Bvckup does *not* do incremental backups - it will mirror your data - if you screw up the original and it gets backedup, the backup is screwed up too. Also does not compress backup IIUC.
I'm not complaining - just saying it might not be what people might expect.

Cobian doesnt do incremental backup either, does it? (Not clear from Curt's info post above.)

It was nice to meet Cobian from Sweeden Contro :D but you still havent explained exactly how you use Cobian - which would help us understand what exactly are you looking for.
"Backup" means different things to different people.

Service - OK, got that.

RE security - removing Java makes PC a lot more secure - but not everyone can do that (I've missed it once or twice in six months since I uninstalled, but it wasnt anything important).

You can eliminate nearly all of the attack vectors that affect Java by just disabling Java in the web browsers you use. You can then use it for desktop applications while nothing 'evil' from the net can slip in through a Java vulnerability.

good to know, thanks Innuendo

What is Cobian able to do? How do you use it?

IIRC I read somewhere that Cobian recognises when an external/usb drive is added - and recognises *which* drive has been added, and then automatically starts the correct backup. (Am I remembering correctly?)

Hasn't been updated in a good few years -
I've only used it on XP, and in a very limited way (with mht files), so I dont know will it do the job.

FWIW I downloaded it from the link on it's homepage http://clipjump.sourceforge.net/
I had to accept cookies from Sourceforge (possibly due to the "Self-Destructing Cookies" addon for FF) and the save file dialogue opened. Saved without a problem.

Firefox 26.0

Also a couple of good tips in this thread: CryptoLocker and CryptoPrevent.
May be other tips here Does anyone know how I may remove Trojan Dropper:MSIL/Livate.A ?.
Both those are more to do with trojans though, I've no idea about BHO's.

obviously still (-with apologies-) missing the meta humour.

Soundtracks : Music Collection: - (Season 2) (Episode 1 - PORTAL)

hey bit! - what's wrong with giving us a link??!! :p
you could even wrap it in YT tags ;)
(dont forget to make it http - *not* https)

PS enjoying it so far. Reminded me a bit of Brian Eno - but I'm not that familiar with his stuff either.

FWIW here's his music for airports - different, but nice n mellow - worth posting:

Well, for a little meta humor, let's try this search link:

[link removed]

I do raw yahoo searches out of the Firefox search window, so I'm not sure if that might have avoided the malware even at the theoretical level. But whatever little was left, I am presuming adblock goes  a long way to mitigate.

I dont understand - why get us to search with yahoo now ???!!! (I didnt click the link :tellme:)

Picasa can make a collage - seems okay to me (I've only ever used it on a very small scale).

Select your photos:
https://support.goog...a/answer/19579?hl=en
menu: Create >Picture Collage

it's fairly intuitive from there:
 • single-click an image - a 'dial' appears - you can rotate or zoom by dragging the pointer on the dial
 • click + drag to move

^ yeah, sorry, I wasnt clear there: I meant no notification in a more in your face manner, e.g. popup. Taskbar on autohide here doesnt help either, but I dont know how the OP (who's looking for this) works, so that may be the solution.

Isn't there usually an icon down in the system tray that shows whether you are on AC or battery?

It doesnt notify of the change though (power => battery).

FWIW just discovered it is a convenient way of getting to the power options though, via right-click.
3999
barney, if I may ask, what security software are you using that let this thing slip through?

Might be time to start looking for a replacement.

It would be interesting to hear which anti-virus programmes *are* good against this type of thing -- I wonder if any are?
The laptop I cleaned was using avira pro which has a very good reputation - used use it myself but gave up on it cause it got too many false positives and didnt make it particularly easy to report.
4000
I can give it a go later (say in 8 hours or so - only passing through now). Just downloaded it too - havent used it before.

have decided to not go with this - it installs java which I dont want. (I removed on both machines here after spending about 8 hours clearing a trojan from a friends laptop in the summer, I decided java wasn't worth the risk - have managed well without it so far.).

Best of luck working it out
