I, on the other hand, caught DC when it was relatively new. Member number 430

Erm, and where does one see their Member Number?  I looked all over my profile and it's nowhere.  Searched yours for "430" and came up dry.

Do I need a Secret Cody Decoder Ring?

Ralf you are 83040 - just click on a user id on the left of a thread and it will be in the URL as u=xxxxx

I am 447 (and feel it these days!)

Initial impressions are good but I can't say I have spent a great deal of time with Echo yet.

I have run out of disc space and need a radical deleting session to generate space for making images. Too much duplication on my discs (esp. music and photos) plus I have a partition for software I download which has got totally out of control with umpteen versions of stuff I use scattered to the four winds and loads of defunct stuff that needs to be trashed! Trouble is like most things in my life these days I can't face doing it and keep putting it all off!

I am really cross 'cos I noticed 100000 was on the horizon and wanted to post it - nevertheless well done Mouser.

Maybe the user who registered 100000 should get a freebie Cody mug or something to mark the occasion ...

There is a simple solution to the license being installed on individual machines across a corporate network ... how about a single ini file (say in C:\Windows or C:\Program Files\Donation Coder License) that contains the license key (or a registry key if preferred). That single key file (or registry key) would apply to all DC apps installed on a workstation and that way a system admin could simply distribute the key file or registry key remotely. When apps are installed (or run) they just check there is a properly installed central key.

It would also mean that individual users would only have to install a key once and then any app that is downloaded and installed is automatically registered without any further user intervention - it would even work for apps that used portably on a USB stick.
3906
Not come across that error in my eventlog.

My shortcut points to "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" with other settings to the obvious values - but then I am no longer suffering the issues I originally posted about.
3907
Looking good CodeTrucker - as Ralf says though get a good solid drive image before anything else and write down all the steps you used to resolve the issues. You might want to burn a drivers disc too so you have it handy for future reference.

One last thing you might want to do - go to Start > Run and type EVENTVWR.MSC and check if there have been any problems since you last rebooted under System and Application categories.

If you have pages of errors dating back to all your fiddling right click on the categories and delete the logs and when they are empty reboot - then go back and have another look.

If you don't have any errors or warnings then you are set to go. Defrag your system and do a full image using somthing like Acronis TrueImage so that in future you can simply install with a couple of clicks. Get another image once you have installed all of your main applications too.
3908
Good luck - let us know how it goes and how fried your brain is when its all done  :D

Sounds like Toshiba are a company to avoid in future!

Interestingly on that list he specifies Radeon X1200 - not "Mobility Radeon".
3909
Glad to hear you're stable again, Carol.

I wouldn't go that far - but my computer is OK  :-*
3910
Can't you just download the appropriate Catalyst Driver from the ATI website ?

http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

Having said that ATI don't seem to do a Mobility x1200 card (even for Vista) - are you sure that is the right model?

sc.png

there are Radeon x1200 and Radeon XPress x1200 models in the integrated/motherboard section.
3911
Maybe something got corrupted during the update process - I had no probs with the previous version and since reinstalling I haven't had any issue with reboots - even when I deliberately put my system under stress.
3912
Cheek - how do you do that when you click on the desktop Firefox icon?
3913
I feel your pain John ... in my case it wasn't memory leaks causing the problems as the reboot only ever occured when Firefox was loading.

Reinstalling it (after a thorough uninstall using Your Uninstaller! 2008) seems to have done the trick for me .... touch wood!
3914
Since reinstalling I have had no further problems.

I found I had a number of DCOM errors going on in my system log - but they were unrelated to Firefox and are a common problem with Creative Audigy 2ZS drivers - disabling a number of non-essential startup services for the drivers (like Creative CD detect) cured the problems so I am not quite sure which was responsible for the problems.

Anyway - fingers crossed it seems to be cured now.

General Software Discussion / Re: Strange Firefox Error:
« Last post by Carol Haynes on December 14, 2007, 05:12 AM »
Nope same here - but you also can't see the site in Internet Explorer. In fact Firefox is more intelligent because it tries to diagnose the problem whereas IE just hangs waiting for the page to appear.

I have seen this error a few times - it is usually a problem with the website, scripting problem or a server routing problem.

If you have cleared your cache and still can't see it then I suggest you try again later and hope someone has noticed the site is not working!

Looking at the website home page works but you can't link to any of the posts or archives so I suspect there is a scripting issue on their server.

No I think he means that EN is handy to compose in and then copy to the app.

Does EN save data to its library after every single keypress - seems a bit wasteful ...
3918
No - because it instantly hard reboots nothing is written to the event log.

General Software Discussion / Re: How do you archive your Email or MBox2CHM?
« Last post by Carol Haynes on December 12, 2007, 07:22 PM »
That's strange 'cos it seems to work fine for me on Windows XP.

The website just says it requires Windows 2000 or later - it isn't specific about Vista.

MailStore looks really good  (but has some broken Dialog Windows - strange for an DotNet App)

I haven't played extensively - where did you find broken dialogs?

The only 'bugs' I noticed were that if you request to see an email in Outlook Express it is hit and miss whether the window actually appears (seems more consistent in Thunderbird - though web based graphics seem to be an issue - and OK in Outlook 2003.

The other thing is if you right click on a folder it gives a single item menu in German (in the English version) which should be "Refresh F5" I think. It is a German app so I presume they simply missed that one translation.
3921
Well having uninstalled Firefox (using Your Uninstaller to remove all the extra registry entries and orphan files) and reinstalled from a fresh download all appears to be smooth (and a bit faster too). I'll see how it goes for a few days.

I did have a load of extensions installed but I used FEBE to backup my profile before the reinstall and have parred down the extensions to well known one that I find indefensible. At lease a FEBE backup means that I can add back any extensions as an when I want if things all seem to be running OK.
3922
Yep - I backed up my profile and disabled everything. Trouble is it is one of those problems that only happens very occasionally (perhaps once or twice a week) but usually when you least need it!!

I'll try downloading the whole package and reinstalling.
3923
Since allowing Firefox to update to 2.0.0.11 I have been getting occasional random sudden reboots when I click on the shortcut to launch Firefox - the app starts to load then the screen goes blank and goes through POST before restarting windows.

Anyone else experienced this?

Just downloaded MailStore Home. It looks really useful for bringing together an entire email archive.

The great thing is it recognises duplicates (both emails and attachments) and doesn't copy multiple copies to the archive.

Note it works with lots of email apps:
